Silver Surfer: Requiem [Comic Fan Dub]

Project Overview

Good day! This project sparks the beginning of a four-issue comic fan dub of the miniseries, Silver Surfer: Requiem. Roles are being casted as we advance through the issues.

WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?
Silver Surfer: Requiem is a beautifully illustrated, thought-provoking miniseries that explores the deeper, more philosophical side of one of Marvel’s most cosmic characters. Written by J. Michael Straczynski and painted by Esad Ribić, the story follows the final days of the Silver Surfer. He learns that his cosmic body is failing and that he is dying.

Project Expectations

  • Recording Location: Remote

  • Unpaid

  • Credit: You will be credited in the video or in the video description

  • Will be uploaded on Youtube! See above Youtube link

  • You must have discord in order to communicate. Or if you prefer, email will suffice.

What You Need to Know

  • All Voice-Over Artists must be 18 years or older to audition

  • Equipment: XLR microphones are preferred. However, USB mics may be used (ie. Blue Yeti X). The recording space must be treated as best as possible. Equipment such as laptop microphones, headsets, and phone microphones will not be considered.

  • You must be able to be contacted throughout the project’s duration. If I do not hear back from you within 7 days of my reaching out to you, you will be recast.

  • You do not have to love Marvel or read comic books

Audition Submission Guidelines

  • Please record your audition with the equipment and in the space you plan to record in!

  • You do not need to slate

  • 2 takes in AABBCC Format.

  • One audition per role, but you may submit for multiple roles. Just don't want multiple auditions for the same role unless I ask you to.

  • Please send your audition in MP3 Mono.

  • The Journey Ends Here

    True believers!

    The time has come. All roles have been filled, lines have been (mostly) read and world hunger has ended! Okay...not really.

    Seriously -- thank you all! And for those that auditioned but didn't quite hit the mark, here are a few reasons why. These were some of the patterns I ran into from some auditions:

    • Mic quality - No one’s expecting you to drop $1200 on a studio mic. But if your gear has limits, a treated recording space can make a huge difference. (Pssst… I record most of my lines in my closet.)

    • Performance - This one’s partly on me. I realized mid-way how crucial direction was and started adding more as we went. But in general, a flat, deadpan read (unless specifically requested) will sink an audition fast. Don’t be afraid to show some oomph and bring the lines to life!

    Aside from that....I’m in post, piecing together everyone’s lines like a kid with new Legos—stay tuned for more comic dubs!

  • "I am...the SORCERER SUPREME!"

    Evening/Morning folks!

    For those that have already auditioned and were selected, thank you kindly for your contributions. Special shoutout to Tony Musco for voicing not just one but TWO characters for this project.

    We do need ONE MORE role -- Dr Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme himself! His cameo is short but necessary.

    Currently waiting on the VA for Silver Surfer to provide his lines by next week. But we got some momentum! Any questions -- please let me know!

  • Voice of the Cosmos

    I am seeking a voice actor to embody the Silver Surfer, the main character of this project. Please record with a condenser or dynamic microphone—USB mics will not be accepted.

    I originally planned to voice this role myself, but I feel my voice doesn’t quite capture the Surfer’s essence. Do you have the depth, gravitas, and cosmic presence to become the Herald of Galactus? This is no small task—only those ready to channel the voice of the cosmos should audition.

WHO IS HE?
A tough-as-nails Brooklyn bruiser turned into a rock-skinned powerhouse by cosmic radiation. As the muscle of the Fantastic Four, Ben’s super strength and durability are unmatched. Beneath the gruff attitude and wisecracks is a friend with a heart of gold.

VOCAL QUALITY
- Gravelly, deep and rough — like he’s been chewing asphalt and whiskey.
- Brooklyn or New York accent is common, but not cartoony — grounded and natural

- Think a bouncer with a heart, or your no-nonsense uncle who’s secretly a softie.

REFERENCE INSPIRATIONS

- John DiMaggio (animated appearances) – great for animated gruff charm.

WHO IS HE?

The hot-headed, thrill-seeking member of the Fantastic Four. After being exposed to cosmic radiation, he gained the power to engulf himself in flames, fly, and shoot fire. Johnny is cocky, impulsive, and loves the spotlight — the flashy showman of the group.

VOCAL QUALITY

- Youthful, energetic, and cocky 

- Fast and playful — he talks like he’s in a race with his own thoughts

- Mid to slightly higher pitch; he’s the youngest, and it should show. Not squeaky, just lively.

- Chris Evans (2005 Fantastic Four) – the gold standard: charismatic, sarcastic, but real.

- Tom Cruise in Top Gun meets Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool — bold, fast-talking, and always ready with a quip

WHO IS HE?

The superhero alter ego of Peter Parker, a teenage science nerd from Queens who was bitten by a radioactive spider. And -- Well, everyone should know who this is! lol

VOCAL QUALITY

Youthful, expressive tone! High energy, quick and witty and always thinking on his feet. Has the ability to transition from sarcastic wisecracks to heartfelt vulnerability.

REFERENCE INSPIRATIONS

- None! Make it your own. This character is pretty well established and you can take inspiration from any of his existing voice over adaptations.

NOTE: This is a big role! Spider-Man carries most of the dialogue in this issue. Please be prepared for several medium-to-long line reads throughout. This includes dialogue and narration as we know Spider-man likes to monologue alot...

His voice should be deep, resonant, and cosmic—like it echoes across space and time. Think calm but commanding!

Think Morgan Freeman meets a black hole. The delivery of his lines should be slow amd deliberate.

WHO IS SHE?

WHO IS HE?
 He was originally Norrin Radd, a young astronomer from the planet Zenn-La. To save his world from destruction, he struck a deal with Galactus, the world-devourer: in exchange for sparing Zenn-La, Norrin became Galactus’s Herald, transformed into the Silver Surfer and tasked with finding planets for his master to consume.

He is the MAIN CHARACTER for this project. He has ALOT of lines across this four-issue mini series. It's a blend of both narration and open dialogue. 

VOCAL QUALITY
Based on the context of the story, keep in mind that Silver Surfer is "dying" and it becomes apparent to him very early in ISSUE 1. I am looking for a calm and deliberate tone, resonant and solemn.

WHO IS HE?

This is an alien that has summoned Silver Surfer to his planet to assist with a dispute. The race is of alien origin. He is seeking for Surfer to settle a civil dispute between his culture and that of another.

VOCAL QUALITY

You can do a variety of difference things: high pitched, low baritone. There is no preference I have for as long as your mic quality is pristine.

REFERENCE INSPIRATIONS

-make it your own but perhaps add in a hint of a british accent. Doesn't have to be a very strong accent.

A jewelry shop owner that Peter Parker is visiting in this issue. This is a small role and only has 3 lines. She appears to be about 50-60 years old and is astute. Think aristocratic personality

Refined, sharp, eloquent — with an air of superiority and a sprinkle of passive-aggressiveness. Think high society dame with a 1940's dramatic flair.
