Send in the Clowns

Send in the Clowns

Project Overview

Send in the Clowns is an animated short film about pierrot clowns, funny clowns and everything in between.

It is in early pre-production but I want to start getting an idea for voices to really bring these characters to life!

Note: There is a short musical number where Mucho, Wes, Fritz and Lola sing. (A technical/polished singing voice is NOT required )

Please have a good quality microphone to record.

Male, middle aged

Mucho is the head of the clowns at the circus and a guy who is equal business and fun. Growing up with a family of clowns, it's in his blood. He has a a bit of a deeper set voice and a strong Boston/New Jersey accent and a certain vigour when he talks.

  • Well, well, well what do we have here? A sad little clown, astray from it's flock?

  • Say, can I get you something to drink? What's your poison? Wait-let me guess-beer?Whiskey? Err...Orange juice? Say kid, how old are you anyways?

  • If you want to be a clown, then come on down!

Male, 20s-early 30s

Wes never planned on being a clown but ended up falling into it anyway. One fateful day as a teenager, he walked into hot topic and the combat boots never came off. Wes has a very level, deadpan nature to the way he speaks even when he's being genuine.

  • I understand. I never thought I'd be a clown but everybody kept telling me how ridiculously hilarious I am. (Deadpan)

Female, 20s

Lola is an old soul with a chipper attitude and a flair for creativity. She has always known she has wanted to be a clown, entertaining her five younger siblings with antics since she was a child. Her voice should be light and upbeat.

Female, 20s

Patience had wanted to be a pierrot clown ever since she was inspired watching a performance on the pier with her family. She is self assured and cool headed who may or may not be on an on again, off again relationship with a mime. Her voice should sound relaxed with the ability to add an edge to it when need be. (Possibly like Marceline from Adventure Time)

  • Yeah, yeah, what's with all the palm cards anyway? I didn't think funny clowns did stand up

  • Hello?? You *are* a clown

  • God, you don't need a purpose to exist, you're not a machine!

Male, 20s:  Fritz is a ball of energy, who some may refer to sometimes as ‘overly-dramatic.’ He grew up in a travelling circus before he found his own footing in Mucho’s gang. I imagine his voice to be upbeat and maybe a tad in the higher pitched range, but I welcome all interpretations and accents!

  • Follow my lead!

  • It’s like arsenic, nasty little thing but it does the trick

  • What a disaster! A complete catastrophe! I’m a hack I tell ya!
