Scorpio Tales

Scorpio Tales

Project Overview

Scorpio Tales (Cult Edge)

Scorpio Tales is an non-profit anthology of short fiction set during Season 4 of Blake’s 7, focusing on the Scorpio crew after the destruction of the Liberator.

The book expands the emotional and narrative space between televised episodes, giving deeper insight into Avon, Tarrant, Dayna, Soolin, and Vila as they adapt to life aboard the more fragile, temperamental Scorpio.

These fan-written stories explore themes of survival, mistrust, shifting loyalties, and the psychological toll of fighting a losing rebellion. Avon’s increasing paranoia, Tarrant’s idealism and frustration, Dayna’s simmering grief, Soolin’s enigmatic past, and Vila’s fear‑driven pragmatism all receive attention.

Several tales examine gaps between episodes, showing how the crew acquires equipment, negotiates alliances, and navigates the Federation’s tightening grip.

The tone matches Season 4’s darker, more fatalistic atmosphere, offering character‑driven vignettes that enrich the final year of the series.

The Project

The characters listed here represent those that accompany the crew in the stories, with the exception of Del Tarrant, who is a main character in Season 4. Scripting is ongoing, so the amount of lines/words should be seen as a minimum at this stage.

I have made seven of these, from way back in 2022 and 2023. The quality of writing is wonderful and I always knew I'd want to go and create more of them. You can find them here for reference.

The timeline for the auditions is long, as they will not be made until early next year.

Please ensure you use a reasonable microphone, good sound proofing if you can and keep auditions SFx free.

I appreciate every one of the auditions received and welcome direct messages if you have any questions.

Thanks for your interest in my project.

This is a fan-produced audio drama. No profit is made. Casting will be completed once the project date expires.

Story: Project Orac

Approximate lines/words: 45/480

A brilliant but broken Federation scientist, Zandermane is a hunched, masked remnant of his former self — a once‑promising student of Ensor now trapped in Sleer’s grasp. His silicone face mask hides catastrophic injuries from a failed suicide attempt, and his mind flickers between resignation and defiance. He’s methodical, eccentric, and quietly resentful, yet still capable of genius. His work is driven by desperation, not loyalty, making him unpredictable and dangerous.

Story: Remembrance

Approximate lines/words: 3/38

Bloated and arrogant, Sen Garot commands the salvage vessel Miniver with petty cruelty. A product of nepotism, he embodies the complacency and corruption of the post‑Federation era. Garot’s authority is hollow — he bullies subordinates like Turmos Kell to mask his own incompetence. His greed for metal scraps and disregard for history reveal a man stripped of curiosity or conscience. Garot’s presence anchors the story’s critique of bureaucratic decay: a commander obsessed with quotas, blind to the ghosts of rebellion buried beneath the dust.

Approximate lines/words: 36/380

Turmos Kell, a Beta‑grade salvager, begins as obedient and weary but evolves into the story’s moral center. His curiosity about the ruins of Gauda Prime leads him to uncover the buried legacy of Roj Blake and the Liberator crew. Through his discovery of Orac, Kell awakens to the lies of the Alliance and the forgotten ideals of freedom. His transformation from compliant worker to visionary rebel mirrors the rekindling of dissent itself — a man who dares to remember when all others have been conditioned to forget.

Approximate lines/words: 16/255

Merta’s voice is soft, devout, and tightly controlled, shaped by years of ritual obedience. She speaks with a gentle, almost trembling calm, as though every word must pass through doubt before reaching the air. She should sound conflicted — breaths catching, sentences thinning when emotion threatens to surface. Her warmth toward Soolin softens her tone, but guilt and fear sit just beneath it. A voice of fragile faith, strained loyalty, and quiet desperation.

Numerous stories.

Del Tarrant in Blake's 7 Season 4 is a man stripped of illusions. Once the brash, self‑assured pilot and tactician of the Liberator, he now operates in a harsher, more cynical world aboard the Scorpio. The destruction of the Liberator and the loss of Cally deepen his pragmatism; his charm hardens into calculation. Tarrant remains courageous and quick‑thinking, but his confidence often masks frustration and moral fatigue. He clashes frequently with Avon, their rivalry sharpened by mutual respect and distrust. Beneath the swagger, he’s driven by loyalty to the crew and a stubborn refusal to surrender to Federation tyranny. His humour becomes drier, his optimism tempered by experience, yet he still acts decisively when others hesitate. In Season 4, Tarrant evolves from reckless hero to weary survivor — a man who fights not for glory, but because he cannot bear to stop.

Here is a sample of Tarrant from the original series for reference.

Story: Ternion

Approximate lines/words: 68/1014

Krell is a tall, lean man in his late forties whose presence feels like a calculation. His voice is deliberate, low, and edged with fatigue, every word measured before release. He moves with precision, his uniform immaculate, his expression unreadable. Cold eyes reveal a mind that never stops assessing risk. He commands through silence rather than volume, letting tension do the work. Krell’s authority is intellectual, not emotional — a strategist who sees people as variables, not allies. Beneath the composure lies exhaustion, the kind that comes from knowing too much and trusting too little.

Barnes, mid‑thirties, carries discipline like armour. Compact and muscular, he stands ready even when still. His clipped voice hides emotion behind control, but the cracks show when loyalty collides with conscience. He believes in the Federation because he must — faith keeps him steady when orders don’t make sense. His uniform is worn but proud, scuffed at the edges from constant duty. Barnes is the soldier who follows rules until they break him, then fights to remember why he cared. His steadiness masks turmoil; his silence speaks louder than defiance. He doesn’t believe in ideals — only survival and the people beside him. His faded insignia and battered gear tell stories he never repeats. Her voice should feel distant yet intimate, as though speaking through layers of memory and frost.
