Project Overview

Hello and Welcome to the Project! This Fan Project is based on the Animated web series produced by RoosterTeeth, known as RWBY. Those of you who are unfamiliar with the series should probably watch the first couple episodes to get an idea of what the show is about. 


This particular project is a narration of a fan fiction known as Parasite. It's a story in which an older team RWBY encounters a Grimm that tortures its victims mentally before finally killing them. The story itself will be read with various voices pitching in during conversations between characters. A chapter will be sent to all participants once casting is over. 

The following are rules that I encourage participants to follow in order for this project to run smoothly with the least amount of issues. 

1. Turn in lines on time. This is something that should be a given, but I'll state it here just to make the point clear. 

2. You will be given chapters for your speaking roles with your respective lines highlighted in bold. I would suggest reading the chapter just to get a feel for what's going on. Don't worry. Chapters aren't very long and should probably take five minutes at the most to read through once. 

3. Make sure you have clear sound. Background noise, fuzziness, and any other distraction will not be accepted. 

4. No emotionless read throughs. Adding emotion to the lines are what gives the story added life. 

5. Be prepared for some intense scenes involving emotional distraught and screaming. Make sure you can handle intense moments like this.

6. Make sure you have a way to stay in touch. Communication is key for the success of a project.

New characters will appear later in the story. I'll make sure to update when that happens.

This Ruby is significantly older than she is in the show, as this story takes place after the events of RWBY's main story. She's middle aged in the story, but a young adult voice will work just as well. She's also the narrator, which means a lot of talking for this role.


Ruby has been through a lot at this point in the story and comes across as bitter and resentful at times. Her optimism has weakened from years of witnessing constant wrongdoing in the world. Throughout the story, Ruby will be confronted with her past and the question of what she'll do to change her future. 

  • "It never hurts to risk your life once in a while." ---Said by Ruby with a slight smirk to Blake.

  • "I'm not really sure what to believe anymore. Is everything just an illusion?"
    ---An exhausted Ruby speaking to herself after suffering from the constant onslaught of Parasite's illusions.

  • "This isn't a game! I lost a lot of friends that day and I'll never be able to forget it! Do you think it's funny to put me through that again?"
    ---Ruby angrily shouting at Parasite mocking her.

Weiss is also older in this story. She's isn't quite as bitter as Ruby, but it's clear that age has made her somewhat jaded and a little less reluctant to make snarky remarks. Despite all this, Weiss still manages to carry a little of her sometimes bossy behavior. 

  • "Ruby! You're awake!"--Said by Weiss cheerfully after anxiously waiting for Ruby to awaken from fainting

  • "Don't worry. I understand you."--Said to Ruby after being told that Weiss doesn't know what it's like to suffer

  • "Whatever it is can't be good."--Weiss after checking up on Ruby and noticing something off with her body

Blake is different from the rest of the main cast. While Ruby and Weiss are noticeably aged,  Blake sounds much younger. A young adult voice is perfect for this role and doesn't have to be modified at all. 

  • "Hi, Ruby."--Said to Ruby late at night after Ruby has returned from hunting Grimm.

  • "You need to get over your past. Running from it will only make it that much worse when it finally catches up to you."---Said To Ruby in a room. 

  • "You really can't help yourself, can you?"--Said to Ruby with a small smile after noticing Ruby trying to hide Crescent Rose.

Yang is also older in this story, but she isn't quite as jaded as the rest of her teammates. Yang should have a bit of a bounce in her voice, much like in the show. 

  • "Come on, Ruby. Everybody on the team knows about your little adventures at night."--said with a small laugh as she loudly pats Ruby on the back.

  • "I'm so glad you're okay! You have no idea how much it scared me to see you on the floor like that."--Said with tears in her eyes after seeing Ruby collapse on the floor and then waking up shortly after.

  • "She's alive!"--Said to Ruby after she suffers from another of Parasite's illusions.

Younger Ruby appears later in the story. She's got the jaded tone of voice from her older self and a bit of a playful personality when fighting various enemies. 


Her Parasite form speaks with the same voice while using a different tone. Parasitic Young Ruby is more playful and somewhat condescending when she speaks. She can go from very calm and thoughtful to angry and destructive. 

  • "Where am I? What is this?"--Younger Ruby finding herself in an unfamiliar location.

  • "You...you're serious, aren't you?"--said to Parasite after learning what it plans to do.

  • "Why do you even try? You know I can do all the same things you do and more."--Parasitic young Ruby speaking to Ruby after effortlessly dodging Ruby's scythe slashes.

Weiss appears as her younger self and behaves as she does during the events of volume three. Volume three Weiss is less restrained than the older version of Weiss. Her tone of voice is a little harsher and there's a hint of distance from her, as if she's not fully comfortable with her teammates. 

  • "Um, what are you doing Ruby?"--Said to Ruby after seeing Ruby run from her seat during a Vytal Tournament match. 

  • "This...what is that...?"--Said out loud after seeing a flash of red light from atop Beacon.

  • "You don't need to tell me twice!"--Said to Ruby after being told an attack maneuver.

Blake appears as her younger self and behaves as she does during the events of volume three. Blake in Volume Three is a lot more reserved and closed off than her older counterpart. She'll speak using few words and has a tone of voice that seems somewhat unsure of itself. 

  • "This isn't the time."--Said to Ruby while running to fight Grimm.

  • "Maybe. Only if you promise right now in front of me."--Said to Yang after being asked if she thinks something is wrong with her.

  • "I don't know why I feel an urge to trust you, but I do."--Said to Ruby after being told of parasite and what it's done.

Yang appears as her younger self. Her behavior matches that of volume three. Yang in Volume Three is much more battle ready and has a witty remark for nearly every insult thrown at her. There's a lot of bounce in her voice and a very youthful confidence. 

  • "Time to fill his mouth with dust!"--Said to a Grimm after she manages to force its mouth open with her hands. 

  • "...Ruby? This pain...I can't stand it..."--Said to Ruby as she suffers from Parasite attempting to infect her.

  • "I trust you because I love you."--Said with great frustration to Ruby after a heated conversation.

Older Ruby in Parasite form is different from the current Ruby in the story. This one is much older and has a very sinister tone to her voice. Listening to her speak is enough to make anybody squirm a little in their seat. 


The age says senior, but I'd call this Ruby more of a pseudo-zombie. So you'll be fine if you can make an old sounding and eerie voice at the same time. 

  • "I'm what you will eventually become."--Said to Ruby after creepily stroking her face while drooling black ooze. 

  • "It won't be long before I break you."--Whispered in Ruby's ear after witnessing her suffering a breakdown.

  • "Listen to your emotions. They tell you how you should be feeling. They tell you to fear me."--Said to Ruby after ripping her face off and showing what lives underneath her.

Mark III is Penny Polendina in a new body. Voice is the same and so are most of her speaking mannerisms. 

  • "Salutations!"--Said to Ruby after Ruby wakes up.

  • "I unfortunately can't tell you if this procedure will go well."--Said to Ruby after telling her about the necessary process to remove Parasite.

  • "I know you have a hard time forgiving me, but please remember that I'll always care about you."--Said to Ruby before sending her off to take on Parasite at its core.
