Russian Starboy - Indie Comic

Russian Starboy - Indie Comic

Project Overview

Hey everyone! I’m working on a black-and-white comic dub project called Russian Starboy, and I’m looking for voice actors to help bring these characters to life.

The story takes place in a fictional, rundown version of 1950s Moscow called Tumanov. It’s got a cartoony art style, but it’s definitely a mature story—it’s got a lot of slapstick violence, smoking, drinking, and mafia chaos, so it's meant for a teen/older audience.

The Story:

The main character is Russian Starboy Junior, an 18-year-old who takes over his dad’s mafia after his dad retires at 40 just to go fishing all day. The mafia basically ran the town into the ground, and now Junior is stuck dealing with all the mess himself because he doesn't really rely on henchmen. He’s super stressed out, chain-smokes, and is constantly trying not to end up like his dad.

On top of running the mob, he’s dealing with:

Katya: His tomboy girlfriend who’s kind of a Negative Nancy and complains when his mob stuff gets annoying, but she still sticks by him.

Günter: His 16-year-old friend from Germany who’s super innocent and nice, which is hilarious compared to how dark everything else in town is.

American Man: A cocky 21-year-old American lab experiment in a giant metal suit who shows up in Moscow thinking he's better than everyone, which drives Junior crazy.

What I'm Looking For:

Good mic quality (no crazy background noise or heavy static).

Actors who can bring energy and personality to these characters.

Accents (like Russian, German, or a loud American hero voice) are awesome, but just getting the voice personality right is the main thing!

Junior is a short-fused, chain-smoking 18-year-old solo mob boss struggling to keep his dad's criminal empire together in Tumanov through sheer aggression and cartoon physics, requiring a high-energy, scruffy, medium-low voice with a cartoony Russian accent that can seamlessly jump from a tired, annoyed mutter to an explosive, angry yell.

  • Günter, put that down! That’s not a shiny toy, that’s a live grenade! Why does nobody in this town have basic safety awareness?!

  • What in the world is that?! Did the Americans just drop a giant chrome toaster wearing bird wings into my city?!

  • Katya, please... I’m having a rough day already. Just... let me finish this cigarette in peace before the next mob guy tries to blow up my office, alright?

Katya is a sarcastic, blunt, and skeptical 17-year-old tomboy who constantly calls out Junior’s chaotic mob ideas, needing a medium-pitch, bored yet sharp voice with a slight Russian accent that seamlessly shifts from deadpan eye-rolling to aggressive yelling when things get out of hand.

  • Wait... that's the big scary secret weapon? He looks like a shiny garbage can with wings. Are you actually worried about this guy?

  • Günter, sweetie, don't eat those dock sausages. Junior's mob bought 'em off a guy who doesn't even own a refrigerator.

  • Junior, look at me... stop pacing for a second. I know this city is a dumping ground, and I know everyone expects you to fall apart just like your dad did. But you're still standing, aren't you? You're out here every single day taking the hits, carrying all this weight on your shoulders... and you're doing it for all of us. You're fighting for Günter, you're fighting for this town... you're fighting for me. That's why I love you, Russian Starboy. Now stop beat'n yourself up.

Günter is a sweet, innocent, and pure-hearted 16-year-old German kid whose rubber-hose, pie-eyed optimism completely contrasts Tumanov's grim mob world, requiring a high-pitched, energetic, and cute voice with a light German accent that shifts naturally between wide-eyed excitement and helpless, squeaky panic.

  • Rival mob tension? Is that a new kind of game we are playing today? Oh boy! Do I get to hold the clipboard?!

  • Ah, back in Germany, my grandmother would make the most wunderbar Apfelstrudel! Warm apples, crisp pastry, cinnamon... it was so sweet and peaceful. Out here in Tumanov, all anyone ever eats is cabbage soup that smells like a wet boot.

  • You work so hard, Junior. I baked some pretzel bread for you and Katya so you don't have to eat cold dock sausages anymore! See? It is only a little bit burnt!

American Man is a cocky, 21-year-old U.S. government lab experiment in a giant winged metal suit who thinks he's the star of a superhero comic, requiring a boisterous, over-the-top, classic heroic voice with an exaggerated radio-announcer flare that effortlessly projects booming confidence and self-righteous arrogance.

  • Fear not, citizens of Tumanov! The shining beacon of liberty has landed on your gloomy, fog-ridden shores! Stand back as I purge this city of lawlessness and bring you the glorious gift of FREEDOM!

  • Check the wings, kid. Pure titanium alloy. You're looking at the future of law enforcement, and let me tell you... it looks fantastic on me.

  • The title of 'Star' belongs to me, kid, not a scruffy, chain-smoking delinquent running around in the mud! You want to know why? Look at you! You're a stress-case mob boss running a broken-down criminal empire! The U.S. government heard about the origins of your little name, and frankly, they were appalled! A star represents hope, victory, and shining perfection! You're just chaos with a bad attitude. Honestly... Uncle Sam would be ashamed of this!

Russian Starboy Senior is a washed-up, laid-back former mob boss who retired to fish at the docks, requiring a deep, raspy, and heavy Russian-accented voice that sounds constantly relaxed, slightly wheezy, and completely unbothered by his son’s daily chaos.

  • Ah, Junior... why you shouting so much? You scare the fish away. Look, the bobber is sinking... ah, never mind, just a shoe.

  • You got your mother's temper, you know that? She used to throw samovars at my head when I was late for dinner. You'll do fine, Russian Starboy.

  • You want to know where the name came from? Ha! Back in 1918, I stole a fake silver star badge off a drunk carnival worker and pinned it to my coat. The locals thought it looked ridiculous, but the name stuck. Now look at you—carrying the whole city on your shoulders just to keep that stupid star shiny. It was supposed to be a joke, son... not a full-time job.
