Rook & Crow: A Fantasy Mystery Podcast (Additional Roles)

Project Overview

Rook & Crow is a fantasy, mystery/thriller set in a strange fantasy world, known as the Fae Realm. Edmund Groves, a student at a prestigious magic university, has uncovered some dark secrets about his school, and intends to discover the truth. He documents his findings using his trusty recording device, "RIDDLE," a magic stone with many remarkable capabilities - and a slight attitude. After he unwittingly finds himself partnering up with Quin, a magical forensics student that he despises, he manages to unravel many unsettling mysteries that threaten to endanger the entire realm.

With the assistance of Edmund's - somewhat reluctant - roommate, Lester, the two must deal with magic cults, cryptid horrors, and the notoriously mischievous fae. Murders, dark rituals, and strange disappearances are only some of many leads they'll follow to achieve this daunting task. But it won't be easy - they will find themselves in mortal peril more often than not. The question is, can they figure out what's happening, before it's too late?

Don't be deceived by the fantastical setting - after all, this is not your average fairy tail. This podcast thriller is a delicious blend of mystery, horror, and fantasy that will have listeners sitting on the edge of their seats.

This is the second casting call we've made for the podcast thus far - and you can listen to our first of three proof of concept episodes we released last year by checking out the video above, and visit our Youtube channel or Spotify by following the links on our account page to listen to the rest.

Here's some more information and requirements:

  • Must be comfortable with some mild language

  • Must be comfortable describing scenes that may be unsettling, disturbing, or graphic

  • Must have a quality microphone and access to discord

  • Must be able to make a more long-term commitment should the project be successful

  • It is recommended that you submit 2-3 takes of each line in AABBCC or ABCABC format (although if you want to give us a headache and think that "this 4th take is too good to leave out", then you're welcome to throw it in. But if you want to do CABBCA or some other randomness, we simply want to know: who hurt you?)

Now, a few final things that are important to mention:

  • This project is Deferred - meaning that it is currently Unpaid. If the podcast is successful and actually makes money, we will discuss payment options

  • Krow And Wolf is a production studio that hopes to make more projects in the future. If this goes well, we may offer you other roles within those projects.

  • Rook and Crow will have more roles added as the series continues, so don't be discouraged if you don't get any lead roles; You may have other opportunities later down the line

  • This podcast has only a few episodes written, but we have many more episodes planned for this first season. If the first episode goes well, we will proceed with production.

  • Will be posted on YouTube, Spotify, and other streaming sites.

Thank you for checking out our project, and we look forward to hearing your auditions!

Latest Updates

  • Deadline Approaching!

    Hello everyone!

We'll be hitting the deadline in just over 9 hours from the time this update is being posted! We've already listened to so many auditions and have been very impressed by what we've heard thus far! It's going to take us some time to go through them all after the deadline passes, so please be patient!

If you're thinking about submitting an audition and haven't already, don't delay! There is still enough time for you to record and submit! However, if you aren't selected for a role, don't despair. We have plenty of characters we're going to be posting casting calls for in the future, so remember to follow the Krow and Wolf Studios CCC profile so you can get updates on that!

In the meantime, feel free to listen to the first three proof-of-concept episodes we've posted on Youtube, Spotify, and everywhere else podcasts can be found! We're a small studio, so our advertising ability is relatively minimal. So, if you aren't selected for the role you auditioned for, you can still support us just by listening to Rook & Crow and sharing it with your friends!

Keep an eye on your inboxes for messages from the studio and watch your notifications to get updated on when we make our casting decisions!

    Thanks again!

The Magister of information is a man who knows. It's his job to know things - a job he enjoys far too much. But how he obtains the information, and who he chooses to share it with is his business.

We're looking for someone who can capture the vocal mannerisms of James Spader (Raymond Reddington from "The Blacklist" and Ultron from "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" for reference) and combine it with a posh British accent. We need a deeper voice that's casually informative and charismatic - one that forces you hang onto their every word - but not too overbearing.

  • To Faefolk, your name is your property. It is the deed to an individual’s very soul, and grants indisputable authority to act on one’s own behalf - or rather, your body is the property of your soul, and your name is the legal document that acts as your proof of ownership. In essence, your name is the law by which your soul is granted permission to operate the fleshy mechsuit you obtained at your birth. Truly a fascinating concept!

  • Now, surely you must be asking yourself, “If my name is my property, then wouldn’t that also imply that it can be stolen?” And to that I say, “keen observation!” Anytime ownership is assumed, there is always the possibility that ownership can be taken or bestowed upon another. A terrifying thought to consider, when one’s name can be seen as the deed to an individual's autonomy!

  • Ha! Stories and legends… Well, as Magister of information, part of my responsibility is to collect stories and legends that might hold the potential for truth - you never know when a seemingly innocuous rumor might bear fruit after all…

This is an injured member of The Iron Circle. He's bleeding and coughing, but too stubborn to die - and even more stubborn when it comes to sharing information on his cult. However, he's not just your run-of-the-mill evil henchman. He's clever, and speaks like someone with a rather expensive education.

  • [coughing] Edmund Groves… Of course, you’d be the one to find me.

  • [Playing Coy] Oh, Lucero? Do you mean, Castor Lucero? The Detective? I can’t say I’ve seen him…

  • [Laughs between fits of coughing] Like I said… I’ve got no idea what you’re talking about…

The pragmatic head of the Cryptozoology department at Esus University, and one of the few people qualified to teach the subject at length. She loves teaching, and has a particular soft spot for Edmund Groves, due to his great enthusiasm for Cryptids in general. She knows her stuff, and encourages her students to ask questions and be engaged during her lectures.

Imagine a younger version of Maggie Smith's portrayal of Minerva McGonagall from the "Harry Potter" movies. She loves to teach - but she doesn't shy away from the grim realities that are presented in her lessons.

Any UK English accent is allowed, but the most important thing is that she sounds knowledgeable and dignified. She needs to sound like a university professor - so keep that in mind in your recording.

  • Yes, well… Good afternoon to you as well, Mr. Greenwood. There’s no need to shake my hand quite so forcefully, thank you very much. Please find your seat, we’ll be beginning the lecture shortly.

  • It varies immensely from cryptid to cryptid. Later in the semester, we’ll be covering “The Whys of the Whats” for that very question. In many cases, we can only puzzle out their desires after they’ve had their way with a place, an object, or in this case, a person.

  • My hope is that many of you will remain in this field purely as academics. Not because you are incapable of more, but because it is a far, far more dangerous world than you know. And to live in that world, you must be equally dangerous, and more.

A brilliant inventor and charismatic entrepreneur of a certain communication device that's taken the archdom by storm. What invention is that, I hear you ask? What a silly question! Everyone and their dog is talking about it - or should I say... talking on it!

Nobody?... okay...

But what's a charming, industrious fellow like Aleksandrion Graphene Belmos doing at Esus University? Who knows?! But he loves a good conversation - even if you're not interested in one.

He's like a super loud and extroverted uncle who asks a lot of questions that he never gives you time to answer, then makes a swift exit before you even have time to process what happened. Picture one of those 1920s "big business" salesmen- the kind that have a big twirly mustache, a transatlantic accent, and a cane they don't actually need. Now let that whimsical caricature possess you, and hit record.

  • Yes, hello, and good afternoon! I do apologize for the interruption, but I’m in a bit of a hurry. I’ve been told that this is where I might find a Mr. Edmund Groves?

  • Oh, sweet Merlin, where are my manners? Aleksandrion Graphene Belmos, at your service good sir!

  • Well, certainly! Dr. LeGarde had many wonderful things to say about you - tells me that you’re an alchemist with great potential!

Have you got range? We are always on the lookout for people with dynamic voices of all genders to fill the roles of characters that only appear for a single episode or two - some of these may even be extras with only have one or two lines. That means that you may be given multiple characters to play - and maybe even land a more permanent role later down the line! However, this does not mean that this will be an easy role - in fact, it may be one of the hardest. This job may mean that you will be taking on multiple roles - but that also means that it has a lot of upside. These roles are not gender specific and may be assigned to multiple people, so don't be afraid to audition! (Keep in mind that most, if not all, of these characters will have some kind of UK accent)

  • Stubborn Witness: If it isn't Detective Lucero's little pet project! If you're here to get my statement, then you'll have to come back with the Detective himself; I've no interest in entertaining useless children.

This is a very important role. Sound is the essence of this podcast, so we need people capable of creating atmospheric sounds that place the audience in the same room as our characters. Characters will be actively interacting with their environment, and we'll need someone who can use sound to help paint a picture for the audience. We do have an amazing team of audio engineers already working with us, but we're always looking for talented people to help lighten their load!

When it comes to any creative indie project, there's always one thing small indie studios like Krow and Wolf usually lack: a producer. We're just a bunch of creatives who are passionate about telling stories. We want to get our story out there, and our resources are limited. However, we're committed to the project, and having an official producer would make it a lot easier to write, record, and publish new episodes more often.
