Rising Stars - A New Musical | Emoji Performance

Project Overview

Welcome to the first show by Shooting Star Theatrical, Rising Stars! The story follows River Teagen, a child diagnosed with ADHD, autism, and the life that is being non-binary, transfer to Cavalry Heights High School for a fresh start! There he meets new friends, new crushes and learns more about the world and themself in the process. This story is a coming of age story about identity and how to live in a world that seems against you. A few project information tidbits.

The show is gonna be produced in parts...

Part 1: The Discord Production

-The show will first be produced on Discord with a shared scene with the concept of the stage and such. Ticket sales will exist so we can actually pay the cast and crew. Payment will be deferred depending on sales.

Part 2: The Live Production

-At Skyline College for a One Month Run or so, the show will be produced in Skyline's theater with a budget of hopefully 5-10,000 dollars (Raised Through Kickstarter) for set, light design, sound design, costumes etc... depends on success of the discord production. Crew hopefully returns and Voice Actors will have the option to return as well (And be flown out) for the show!

Part 3: San Francisco Regional

-An Agent will be hired to help find a theater in San Francisco to help find a theater to host. Crew hopefully returns as well as previous actors either from Skyline or Discord. Budget of 100,000 dollars I would hope for.(This is like in 4 years)

Part 4: Beyond

- My ultimate goal is for this to become a Broadway Production and Establish Shooting Star Theatrical as a proper theater production company! But that may be too ambitious at the moment. But it's a goal!

As you can see it is VERY ambitious but with every step it is optional if you want to move on to the next step. Now are are requirements for the Discord stage:

  • A good microphone: One that will allow you to sing in it without peaking it.

  • Discord: Should be obvious for Part One. But Discord is required for rehearsal and development

  • Time: I have classes and life to but please have some sort of availability and communicate conflicts.

Here is the audition process:

You will do submissions on here and throughout the submission deadline I will administer shortlists. If you are shortlisted it means you have a callback and move on to round 2. Which means I invite you do a private call with me and we do an interview and I give you callback lines. In which you get a week to record and send them to me and I'll mark it in consideration.

More roles are to be added as I write them. For now audition! And I look forward to seeing your audition!

  • Hiatus

    Hello everyone,

    I'm Fang, one of the directors for Rising Stars. This announcement is to inform everyone that the production for Rising Stars will be going on a hiatus.

    If you are in the Discord server, you already know that my co-director, Kay Law, the founder of Shooting Star Theatrical, lead writer, and actor for River Teagan, recently took her own life. This loss has been devastating for our whole community, and we appreciate everyone who has helped contribute to helping find her information and those who wish to remain with Shooting Star to help tell her story.

    Kay was an incredible person whose charisma and ambition drew all of us toward her, and her legacy will carry forward in the stories she left behind. Rising Stars and Shooting Star Theatrical will continue to be developed in her vision to the best of our ability.

    With this said, our team is in a grave state of grief and disarray and will need time to recover. Additionally, since Kay was such a massive part of the project and its identity, we will need people to help carry the weight she bore in developing the story. We aren't trying to replace her, just to make sure her wishes can move on to the ambitions that she dreamed of.

    Production will continue around February or March, and I will be looking for help in directing, and certain other aspects on the production team. I will also be looking for someone to step into the role of River Teagan. Callbacks will be pushed back to this time as well. The original casting date of the 20th no longer stands. I apologize for the delay, and ask you for your understand of the team in this extremely difficult time.

    Finally, there will be a memorial ceremony held for Kay in the Discord server sometime in January (scheduling is still being discussed). It is open to everyone in the server to join. We will be remembering Kay, singing songs, and celebrating her life. She has impacted so many people so deeply, and this would be our way of letting her memory rest.

    Thank you to everyone for your support throughout this entire process. We are extremely touched by all your kindness and empathy. Please stay safe, we appreciate you for all you are and all you do.

MAIN CHARACTER (16) (Mid Alto - Mid Soprano) 


The chipper and optimistic student council president. She is the one who is in charge of helping River adjust to the new school! (River's love interest hehehe) She is the epitome of optimistic while hiding the pain inside. She has 2 solo songs one when she meets River and one about her past and her pain. Actress should be able to convey the deep emotions that this character experiences, pain, anger and such. As well as maintaining her mask as council president! Her wide variety of emotions makes her a hard character to play so break a leg!

Miriam is Ruby's younger sister. A bright starry-eyed child like her sister although she is oblivious to the cruelties of the world. While an optimist, she is also intelligent. An honors child essentially so she provides helpful insight the her big sister even stuff she probably shouldn't know at this age. I would prefer if this character was played by someone under 21 (Since she is the youngest character in the show) but if you are older than 21 and sound enough like a 12 year old then it will be fine. Has one solo.
