Resonance

Project Overview

Introduction

Hello everyone! This casting call is for the series "Resonance", an original serialized fantasy audio drama. Season 1 will primarily be set at Westbridge University - a prestigious school for the magically gifted, in a modern world where magic is deeply woven into everyday society. The Series follows a group of freshmen navigating their new life as university students- dorms, classes, parties, romance, rivalry -- while a much larger conflict simmers underneath: the growing divide between Mages, those born with magical ability, and Mundanes, those born without it.

We're casting the core, ongoing cast for the season - actors taking these roles should expect to return across multiple episodes, including a dedicated character focused episode(s) later in the season/series that dig into each lead's backstory. Actors cast in leads may also be asked to voice minor or one-off supporting roles as needed throughout the season/series.

All roles are in English, contemporary American Vernacular, except where a specific accent is noted below.

For lead roles (Plus any additional minor-role lines across the season/series), we are offering at this time Credit Only, but if monetized will gladly pay a fair amount, as this is just a hobby and passion project of mine. We will also credit and Showcase our voice actors and anyone who reaches out to help!

SERIES OVERVIEW

Resonance begins with the excitement and freedom of freshman year at Westbridge — new friends, first crushes, discovering one's own magical Affinity, the thrill of competition — before gradually pulling back the curtain on a deeper social conflict between magical society and the Mundanes who live within it, without power, but not without worth. The series blends action, comedy, drama, and romance, and is intended to grow progressively darker as the season develops, with real consequences for its characters — injury, loss, and moral complexity, not just power-scaling.

This is planned as an ongoing, multi-episode season, with several episodes dedicated to individually deepening each of our three leads.

ROLES WE'RE CASTING

NOLAN VALE — Age 19. Our male lead. A Magical Engineering major with the rare Force Conversion Affinity — intelligent, kind-hearted, and quietly self-doubting despite real talent, more comfortable with machines than with the girl he likes. Fiercely protective of his best friend. Needs a voice that can carry awkward comic timing alongside real intensity and physical strain in combat, and the range to grow into the character's larger arc across the season as he comes to understand the true scope of his power.

ADAM MERCER — Age 19. Nolan's best friend since childhood — loud, funny, confident, a little reckless, and the emotional heart of much of the show's comedy. Adam is a Mundane, born with no magical ability whatsoever, and has faced real prejudice for it throughout his life; underneath the jokes is genuine hurt, pride, and determination. Needs strong comedic timing and the range to land vulnerable, serious beats without losing the character's warmth — Adam's arc is central to the series' core themes, not comic relief alone.

LUCILLE "LULU" BEAUMONT — Age 19. A confident, playful mage with a strong Southern/cowboy aesthetic, skilled in Friction Manipulation and Weapon Conjuring. Charming, teasing, quick-witted, and genuinely capable — undecided between a future with the Magic Council or as a Hero. Requires a natural or well-executed Southern/Texan accent. Lulu is a full co-lead with her own arc across the season, not solely a love interest.

DAMIEN CROSS — Age 21. An older student and an early rival for Nolan, gifted with Pressure Manipulation. Cocky, arrogant, experienced, and proud — but not a simple antagonist; raised by Mundane adoptive parents after his biological parents' deaths, Damien's worldview comes from real experience, not cruelty for its own sake. Needs a voice that can carry genuine swagger and condescension while leaving room for later complexity.

Recurring supporting/minor roles (open to actors auditioning for leads or general submissions): Student Helper, Announcer, Dean, assorted Students/Crowd voices, Combat Opponents. These roles recur throughout the season and are a great fit for actors looking for a lighter time commitment. These sort of roles will be posted/auditioned for mainly in the discord, so check there regularly for new roles.

We also will never forget those who audition, if you don't get a role you auditioned for we may reach out to your for a fit for another character instead. We are open to anyone auditioning for any role.

DEADLINES AND AUDITIONS

Auditions close September 18th. Cast actors will be notified by September 25th, with scripts sent on a rolling basis as episodes are finalized. We ask that lines for each episode be returned within 4-7 days of receiving the script — please only audition if you can commit to a recurring recording schedule across the season. We understand we are starting to get to a busy part of the year, so if you are unable to meet a deadline at some point let us know prior

WHAT TO EXPECT

This is a passion project first and foremost — we're building an ongoing world we genuinely love, and we're looking for actors who want to grow with it across a full season and beyond. We communicate primarily through Discord, where you'll connect with the rest of the cast and crew as the series develops.

WHAT WE ASK OF YOU

  • Clean, dry recordings on a decent mic — no background noise, no added effects or processing. We handle all mixing, EQ, and post-production.

  • Submit your best 2–3 takes per line rather than every take you recorded.

  • Files for script reading should be as .wav are preferred , submitted via email. (auditions should be sent through CCC)

  • We may occasionally request a line re-do, but only when genuinely needed — we know your time is valuable.

  • Because this is a season-long, ongoing production, we're prioritizing actors who can commit to recurring availability rather than a single episode — we'd love to build a cast that grows with the story.

Latest Updates

  • THANK YOU FOR ALL THE AUDITIONS!!!

Oh my goodness, Thank you all for all the submissions to be apart of this passion project. It means the world to me more than you could ever think. I am trying to get through everyone's submissions thus far and I can say you all did wonderful!

We do however have a spot already filled for our very own Nolan Vale.

Nolan Vale will be voiced by Vantasolis (Vanta for short)

I will hopefully be deciding on some other roles here soon, and possibly adding some more roles (I didnt realize I would get this many already).

Again Thank you all so much for the submissions! I greatly appreciate every single one of you!

    Best,
    Toasty

NOLAN VALE

Age: 19
Role: Main Character / Protagonist
Type: Mage
Affinity: Force Conversion

Nolan is Adam's best friend and roommate, and one of Westbridge's incoming freshmen entering the Magical Engineering program.

Unlike Adam, Nolan was born with real magical ability — but he doesn't fully trust it yet. His Affinity, Force Conversion, is powerful and still not entirely understood, even by Nolan himself.

Nolan is intelligent, kind-hearted, and thoughtful, but also self-critical and quietly insecure — he often doubts whether he's actually good enough for what's expected of him, even when the evidence says otherwise. He's far more comfortable talking about magical engineering than talking to someone he's attracted to, and he tends to freeze up or overthink in social or romantic moments where Adam moves effortlessly.

Despite his awkwardness, Nolan is fiercely loyal and protective — especially of Adam, whom he refuses to let be defined or diminished by the prejudice Mundanes face. When pushed into a corner, particularly in combat, something more assertive and intense emerges beneath his usual restraint.

His friendship with Adam is one of the emotional foundations of the series.

Personality: Intelligent, kind, loyal, self-critical, awkward, protective, determined, quietly intense under pressure.

Voice Direction: Grounded young-adult male voice. Nolan should read as thoughtful and a little reserved by default — genuine warmth, not flat — with real, unforced awkwardness in social/romantic moments (not played for cartoonish comedy). The actor needs to convincingly shift into raw physical strain and controlled intensity during combat, and land quieter, vulnerable introspective beats without sounding melodramatic.

Casting Notes: As the emotional anchor alongside Adam and Lulu, strong chemistry with both is essential — particularly the easy, lived-in rapport of a decade-long friendship with Adam, and believable, unforced tension with Lulu. Range is the priority here: the same actor needs to sell self-deprecating humor, quiet self-doubt, and a genuinely powerful combat moment within a single episode.

Language:
  • english
Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • american
  • (Comedic/awkward) "I practiced saying hi to her four separate times in the mirror this morning. Four. And I still said 'uh.'"

  • (Vulnerable) "Everyone in there already knows exactly what they are. I don't even know what mine does half the time. What if I get up there and it's nothing?"

  • (Intense) "You want to see what I've got? Fine. Just remember you asked."

ADAM MERCER

Age: 19
Role: Main Character / Best Friend
Type: Mundane
Affinity: None

Adam is Nolan’s best friend and roommate.

Unlike the students around him, Adam was born without magical ability. Despite this, he refuses to let being Mundane define him.

Adam is outgoing, confident, sarcastic, and rarely afraid to say what’s on his mind. He’s the type of person who can walk into a completely unfamiliar environment and immediately start acting like he owns the place.

He’s also an experienced hand-to-hand fighter. His physical abilities come from years of practice rather than magic.

Adam uses humor to keep things light, but underneath that confidence is someone who has spent a long time dealing with prejudice toward people like him.

His friendship with Nolan is one of the emotional foundations of the series.

Personality: Charismatic, funny, reckless, confident, loyal, sarcastic, protective.

Voice Direction: Energetic young-adult male voice. Adam should have a naturally playful tone and excellent comedic timing, but the actor must be able to switch into serious emotional moments.

Casting Notes: Strong chemistry with Nolan is extremely important.

  • (Comedic) "I've got a mini fridge, a griddle, and zero shame. This room's about to be legendary."

  • (Vulnerable) "You know what it's like walking into a room and watching people decide who you are before you've said a word? I do. Every damn day."

  • (Intense/fired up) "Zero index. Yeah. And I still put him on the ground. Let that sink in."

LUCILLE “LULU” BEAUMONT

Age: 19
Role: Main Supporting Character / Recurring
Type: Mage
Affinities: Friction Manipulation & Weapon Conjuring

Lucille Beaumont, better known as Lulu, is a first-year student at Westbridge.

Lulu is confident, intelligent, independent, and sharp-tongued. She’s relaxed in situations that would make most people nervous and has a dry, deadpan sense of humor.

She has a noticeable Southern drawl, but it should feel natural rather than exaggerated or cartoonish. Her Southern accent becomes stronger when she’s angry or emotionally charged.

Lulu is comfortable teasing people and doesn’t take herself too seriously. She’s also considerably more capable than she initially lets on.

Her weapon-conjuring ability allows her to create weapons from magic, while her friction manipulation gives her a unique way of controlling the battlefield.

Personality: Confident, intelligent, independent, sarcastic, laid-back, competitive, perceptive.

Voice Direction: Young Southern woman with a natural Southern drawl. Warm and charming when relaxed, with a sharper edge when challenged.

Casting Notes: The actor needs strong comedic timing and the ability to shift quickly between playful banter and serious combat performance.

Voice description:
  • female young adult
  • american (southern)
  • texan
  • funny
  • (Comedic/playful) "Bless your heart, sugar, but that was the saddest excuse for a fight I've seen all week."

  • (Confident/steel) "Y'all think a lasso's just for show? Watch me pull the ground right out from under you."

  • (Quieter/serious) "Everybody keeps askin' if I want the Council or the hero life. Maybe I just want somethin' that's actually mine first."

Role assigned to: Joe_Cloughley

DAMIEN CROSS

Age: 21
Role: Major Recurring Character / Rival
Type: Mage
Affinity: Pressure Manipulation

Damien is an experienced Westbridge student and one of the major rivals introduced in the story.

He’s cocky, competitive, and occasionally arrogant. Damien knows he’s good and isn’t afraid to let people know it.

However, he’s not simply a villain. Damien is fundamentally a good person whose pride often gets in his way. His character develops significantly throughout the story.

Damien has a complicated background. His biological parents were villains and are deceased. He was raised within the adoption system before eventually being adopted by Mundanes.

Because of his upbringing, Damien has no desire to follow the path of his biological parents.

He initially looks down on Adam because he’s Mundane, but eventually develops respect for him after seeing what Adam is capable of.

Lulu, meanwhile, has a tendency to get under Damien’s skin.

Personality: Cocky, competitive, proud, intelligent, occasionally arrogant, secretly compassionate.

Voice Direction: Young adult male voice with confidence and authority. Damien should sound like someone who knows he’s talented without becoming a cartoonishly arrogant bully.

Casting Notes: Must be capable of portraying both rivalry and vulnerability. Damien’s later character development will require emotional range.

  • (Cocky/swagger) "Cute power. Shame you clearly have no idea what to do with it."

  • (Condescending, needling) "You've got more raw potential than half this campus combined, and you're gonna waste it being scared. Pathetic, honestly."

  • (Cracks the armor) "Everyone assumes I had it easy. Nobody asks what it costs to be raised by people who weren't even supposed to want you."

Age: Late teens to early 20s
Role: Background / Ensemble, non-named

Overlapping crowd reactions, jeering, gasping, cheering, and a few one-line reaction bits ("He said mundane?" / "This is the best you got, Vale? Pathetic.") scattered throughout the exam sequence.

Personality: Varies by line — some cruel/mocking, some awed, some just along for the ride.

Voice Direction: Natural, unpolished delivery — these should sound like real overheard reactions, not performed lines. A mix of ages/genders/deliveries is ideal for a believable crowd.

Casting Notes: Open to anyone auditioning—great low-commitment way to get involved and be part of the world.

I would love to add a thumbnail artist/character artist just for when we have places that aren't audio only I.E youtube videos to add a bit more flair.

Just like the VAs, if this passion project becomes more than that and gets monetized then you will be paid fairly for your hard work and dedication, I apologize I cannot pay up front.
