Redwood Pines | Call to Audition for Main Cast

James Cooper, otherwise known as "Cooper", is the main character for which the story of Redwood Pines surrounds. He is a 35 year old man who has lived in Redwood County for most of his life. Cooper joined the police force in his early 20s, and has since worked his way through the ranks to become the County Sheriff. His family is well known throughout the community as "The Coopers", and are generally well-respected. 

Cooper tragically lost his wife and highschool sweetheart, Abigail (Abby) under mysterious circumstances when they were in their  late-20s. Her death rattled the community, and broke Cooper's heart deeply. Cooper was left to raise their 12-year-old daughter, Annie, whilst he battled with his grief. As such, Cooper became withdrawn over the years and hyper-fixated on finding answers to his wife's death. Cooper now lives out his day to day as a workaholic, and spends the majority of his time at the police station working into the late hours of the night. His relationship with Annie over the years has become strained, as a result. 

Cooper is broody and dark, with a bleak outlook on life. He suffers from undiagnosed complex PTSD, and has night terrors and flash backs frequently, which impacts his sleep. He has aged terribly and as a result, looks much older than he really is. As such, he constantly looks tired with bags under his eyes daily. Cooper is tall and intimidating by nature with a deep monotone, flat voice, and remains very much an authoritative figure throughout the storyline. He is extremely protective over the ones he loves, and is not one to be messed with.

Annie Cooper is the 17-year-old daughter of the main character, James Cooper (“Cooper”) who is the County Sheriff of Redwood, a fictional southern town.

Annie shares a strained relationship with her father after the death of her mother, Abigail Cooper, whom passed under mysterious circumstances when Annie was only 12-years-old. Following the tragedy, Annie sought support and comfort from friends as her father’s life became devoted to solving the mystery behind her mother's death. As such, Annie has become withdrawn and quiet around Cooperas as she has gotten older.

Annie has befriended the “popular” group at school. She often tries her best to blend in with them, caves to peer-pressure often, and overall does her best to “fit in”. Being the “untouched” daughter of the Sheriff, Annie seen as the 'shiny new toy' by the boys in the group, and is overall respected by most as a result. Despite her connections, she maintains a very close relationship to Tala Souix- a quiet and unassuming Indigenous boy whom she grew up with.

Annie is naïve, quiet, and curious by nature. She’s a gentle soul whom despite her differences with her father, loves him deep down and misses what they used to have. She wants nothing more than some semblance of normalcy in her life. 

Tala Souix is the 17-year-old nephew of Takoda Souix, a close family friend of the Coopers’. Tala is a close childhood friend to Annie Cooper, and is one of the leading roles in this series.

Tala shares a close relationship with his uncle, Takoda Souix, who raised him after his parents died in a car accident when he was only 5-years-old. Tala isn’t overly sociable, and enjoys reading books, doing art, and working on the reservation where he gets on well with his extended family. Tala is deeply fond of Annie, and cares about her immensely.

Tala is a good-hearted person. He is quite bright, and tends to avoid the “popular”, or “dramatic” crowds at school. With that said, he often makes exceptions for Annie, in order to spend more time with her. Tala is not popular at all, and is not a big fan of Annie’s friends. Tala is a man of very few words, but is extremely protective over Annie.

Tala and his uncle are Native American, and share a wealth of knowledge into the history, culture, folklore and legends surrounding Redwood Pines. Tala holds deep respect for his cultural background and upbringing and spends a lot of his time studying it.

Takoda is a 53-year-old Native American man who has lived his entire life in Redwood. Takoda has raised his nephew, Tala, (the son of his deceased brother) as if he were his own for the last 12 years. The two have developed a strong bond as a result. Takoda is a close friend of the Coopers’, and is particularly close with James Cooper, the overall leading character for Redwood Pines.

Takoda is a quiet and unassuming man, who resides in his cabin with Tala on the edge of the Pines. He spends most of his time working in his garden, teaching Tala how to track and hunt animals, and educating the young people on the reservation about the history, culture and legends surrounding Redwood.

Takoda is very spiritual, and is incredibly knowledgeable about the surrounding flora and fauna. As such, he is a particularly skilled hunter and tracker. He aids Cooper with many of his investigations. 

Reece is an 18-year-old boy who attends Redwood High School with Annie Cooper. They are both in the same ‘popular’ friend group, with Reece being the leader for all intents and purposes. He is an antagonist character in this series.

Reece is your classic ‘high school jock’ and holds a lot of pride and confidence within himself. He doesn’t take ‘no’ for an answer very well, and often gets his way with most things. Reece finds himself very drawn to Annie, given Annie is the ‘untouched latest addition’ to the group, and the daughter of one of the most respected figures in the community.  As Annie has not given in to Reece’s advances, he has become more determined.

Reece is smug and cocky by nature, and a bit of a bully at school. He doesn’t like Tala, and the two clash heavily. Recent events in episode 1 have led Reece to develop stronger feelings of resentment towards Tala, whilst being even more determined to get with Annie.

Brandy is your typical country girl, and local bartender. She’s 38-years-old and owns her own bar, passed down by her father called the “Redwater Tavern”. She is an active member of the community and is known personally by Cooper and his colleagues, as they attend the tavern regularly. Brandy was a childhood friend to Abigail Cooper, and served as maid of honour at her and James’ wedding. 

Brandy spends the majority of her time at the Tavern, having no other immediate family other than her younger brother, 'Clint', who works there as head chef. Brandy is very loving toward the community, often participating as a kitchenhand event-organizer in school events and county fairs. She sees everyone in the Pines community as family, and is always ready to help out wherever she is needed. Being the very kindhearted soul that she is, Brandy is typically the first to raise her hand to help out.

Paul is a 42-year-old sergeant, who works with Cooper at the station. He is Cooper’s ‘right-hand man', if you will, and aids Cooper in many tasks and investigations in their day-to-day.  

Paul is of Asian descent but was born and raised in America. He has devoted a large portion of his time and efforts into improving the Redwood task force and is passionate about his work with Cooper.

Paul is bubbly, light-hearted and free-spirited. He spends his time cycling and playing golf and loves rom coms. He has quiet romantic feelings for his colleague, Diane Davies. 

Diane Davies is a 45-year-old African American woman who works as a Chief Deputy, alongside Cooper. She is close with Cooper and Paul, and the three of them work together frequently.

Diane is a single mother of 2 and loves her boys dearly. She is very proud, outspoken, and confident, and is generally not someone you want to get on the wrong side of. Diane focuses most of her energy on her small family, but now considers Cooper, Paul, and the rest of their office to be like family also. As such, she is very loyal and protective over them.

Diane enjoys spending her free time with her boys and catching up with friends and family. She has an appreciation for the material things in life, but always has her heart set on the ones she cares about most.

Byrce is the 17-year-old right-hand-man to Reece. Usually wherever Reece is seen, Bryce is there alongside him. 

Bryce is a bit of a party animal, who likes to chat up girls and score 'points' to brag to his peers about. He and Reece are like two peas in a pod, with Reece being the ring leader and Bryce as his main follower.

Bryce is a bit of a perfectionist- he can’t be seen in public unless he looks his absolute best, with regular haircuts and tonnes of cologne. He also partakes in sports and likes to keep his body looking good. He’s your typical jock who cares far too much about his appearance.

Crystal is a 17-year-old girl who attends the same high school as Reece and Annie. She forms part of the same friend group and is Annie’s closest friend in this group. 

Crystal has generally always hung out with the ‘mean girls’ but is the gentlest of them. She is often reserved in her thoughts and feelings about the groups’ activities, but like Annie, tries her hardest to simply blend in. Crystal likes to dance and go shopping in her free-time and values her time with the girls.

Crystal is very observant and unfortunately, is an empath- which leads her to find herself in many conflicting situations. This quality is what has drawn Annie to her, and the two have become close.

Peter is a 49-year-old man who moved the Redwood County 5 years ago. He works as a homicide detective for the Sheriff's department, and aids Cooper in serious related investigations.

Peter is straight-edge and observant. He presents as being quite passive, but is always analysing situations in the background.
