Redemption - A short Podcast Drama
Project Overview
I'm creating a short audio drama for a podcast based on one of my short stories, for my media degree.
The story tells of Helen who is working for Matt as a volunteer in a homeless shelter, though she has an ulterior motive, she is desperately looking for her missing husband after a tragic accident happened at home. She befriends a young man called Rowley who also appears to be hiding from an incident of his past. She feels a connection and soon confides in him, he agrees to help. Together, their search reveals a shocking truth that will forever change Helen’s life.
The play is a modern fantasy drama and is aimed at people who want to believe in hope with a hint of magic.
The acting parts will be unpaid, but you will be given access to the completed project to use for your own CV.

A young 30 year oldish woman, who wears her heart on her sleeve. Although emotional, she is strong and wants to help people. She empathises with them. She has a strong motherly voice.
(Narrating) I didn’t see Rowley for the next four nights. According to Matt, he hadn’t come in during the day either. I asked around, but the regulars weren’t that much help. Not surprising really, they all had their own lives to live, most preferring solitude. But on the fifth night, Rowley appeared, seated at the same table looking out of the window. So I grab a small bread roll and make my way over.
(Upset) Yes ... Yes he was. My husband, Geoff was ... well, he was driving home after, um ... after picking up Justin from school. The two of them were playing around, as they usually did and, er ... Geoff must’ve lost ... Oh God, it’s been so long since I talked about this.
A young man who is a leader and compassionate about helping people. He has a strong and warm voice.
Hmm, not much. He started coming here about the same time as you started. I’m surprised you haven’t noticed him before. Oh wait, no you wouldn’t have. You only work the night shift. Well, he’s usually here during the day. Come to think of it, I think this may be the first time I’ve seen him here this late.
(Narrator) Over the following three days, I watch the sparkle go out from Helen’s eyes. She no longer laughs or joins in with the banter. Something was said between her and Rowley and it’s clearly effected her.
A middle aged man who has been living rough on the streets these past couple of years. He has a warm voice that has been strained from strangulation.
(crying) Oh God Helen, I’d given up ever seeing you again. I’m so ashamed.
I ... I don’t know what to say. You saved my life and brought my wife ba ... (horrified) Oh Jesus no! It can’t be!
Not you ... HIM! He’s the driver Helen! He killed Justin! I SAW HIM DIE!
Old homeless man with a gruff voice.
