Project Overview

Welcome to Public Access Purgatory!

Synopsis

Following the chaotic crew of a surreal TV station with a nonstop broadcast schedule, it's obvious that the gig is less about the grueling demands of the seemingly eternal job and more about the strangeness of the employees themselves. Of course, that isn't going to stop the goofy and wildly inept camera-head Momo from shining!

Scope

We are casting for the main roles in an upcoming 3D animated series titled “Public Access Purgatory” also known as “PAP”. The show is a surreal, comedy driven series with a sitcom-like structure, focusing on dark humor, odd characters and chaotic workplace dynamics. The project includes several episodes and additional promotional content.

Studio Freak Friends is an independent, internet based animation studio made up of friends, friends of friends, and complete strangers who somehow agreed to make something together. We believe in real human art, indie animation, and making things that feel personal, weird, and alive. 

We’re extremely passionate about what we do, and we want to bring our characters to life by telling their stories and sharing their moments of struggle, happiness, and growth.

We want to create 15 to 20 minute 3D animated episodes packed with jokes, grit, and whatever else sneaks in along the way. Who knows what that’ll be! You will, if you help us make it real.


Audition requirements


● Submit files as MP3 or WAV
● Label files as character_yourname, for example momo_janedoe
● Record a few takes for each line in AABBCC format
● Prior voice acting experience is preferred but not required
● Please do minimal editing to your audio (or none at all). Noise reduction and normalization are acceptable
● You may audition for as many characters as you’d like or feel comfortable with. We’d love to hear your range and keep you in mind for other roles
● Must be 18 years or older to audition

F = Looking for Feminine Voice
M = Looking for Masculine Voice
MF = Looking for the right voice

Even if specific audition lines are provided, any additional vocalizations (such as thinking sounds, screams, giggling, laughter, grunts, crying, or other emotional expressions) are highly appreciated. You are also welcome to freely improvise additional phrases, as this helps us better understand your emotional range and vocal versatility.

We will be reaching out only to applicants who will be moving forward with us. We truly appreciate everyone who takes an interest in being part of our cast.

Payment

This is currently a volunteer casting call. Chosen actors will voice characters for promotional videos and early animations during pre production. Once the Kickstarter launches, and if funding goals are met, all actors will be paid for the future work on episodes. This is an indie project with a limited budget, so final rates will depend on the funds raised. Payment details will be discussed once the project is funded.

Agreements

All selected voice actors will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to receiving any scripts or project materials. The NDA ensures that all story elements, artwork, and internal communications remain confidential.

  • The Cast is here!

    Hello hallo hi, everyone! It’s finally time!

    We finished looking through 3000+ auditions, and we were completely blown away by all the submissions. A lot of you were insanely talented, and it made picking for each role really, really hard.

    Seriously, thank you to everyone who took the time to audition. We saw so many amazing takes on these characters, and it meant a lot to us.

    But we are finally done and happy to announce the cast!

    Now that casting is finished, we can  move forward with getting our Kickstarter fully prepared to launch. We are still storyboarding the opening and are in production of rewards for the Kickstarter, while also working on a few additional things that will be revealed over time.

  • Casting call deadline approaching!

    Hello everyone!

    I’m reminding you that the casting call is closing this Monday, the 16th. Please make sure to submit your auditions before then!

    We will be reviewing submissions throughout the following week, starting Tuesday the 17th and ending Sunday the 22nd. AFTER that, we will contact the people we believe are the best fit for the roles. We plan to select around 2–3 people for each role. There may be a few exceptions, as we might also contact some of you about secret characters that were not mentioned in the casting call!

    I (Chantako) will be reaching out to selected people through Discord, email, or Casting Call Club messages, so please keep an eye on those.

    If you are not selected, please do not feel discouraged. You lose every chance you do not take, and we are immensely proud of every single person who submitted an audition. At the time of writing this post, we have received over 2600 submissions, and we could not be more grateful. You are all fantastic, and we truly appreciate the time and effort you put in.

    There will be another (and last!) post once the selections have been made, announcing who was chosen.

  • IMPORTANT Update!

    Hi guys! We will be closing the auditions on March 16th instead of April 5th.

    That said, we have received almost 2000 auditions. More than 1000 submissions came through CCC, and we are very close to another 1000 through the Google Form. In fact, we actually managed to run out of disk space on Google Forms, which is a little unfortunate if I may say so myself.

    We honestly have no idea how we are going to get through all of these, so we hope you will give us enough time to review everything properly and contact the people we are interested in! For each role we will be selecting a few candidates and reaching out to you via email or Discord if you are chosen. Any further steps will be explained through messages or calls, so please keep an eye on your inbox. We will start contacting people after auditions close, not before.

  • 1000 submissions!

    We’re happy to announce that we’ve crossed the 1,000 submission mark between CCC and the Google Form! Yes, we triple-checked. Yes, we are still processing that number.

    We are incredibly grateful and honestly very surprised, especially since it’s only been a little over a week. We were thrilled when we hit 90 submissions, imagine how it makes us feel now! Clearly, we underestimated you all!

    That said, we know that seeing 1,000 submissions might sound intimidating, but it really shouldn’t scare anyone away. We genuinely encourage you to audition, have fun with it, and take your shot. You never know, you might be the one.

    We truly didn’t expect this level of interest and turnout for our show, and we’re so happy that you seem to love it as much as we do, if not more.

    We are also excited to share that we’re currently working on a promotional page for Kickstarter, which we will be sure to update everyone on as soon as we have things set up.

    Because of the high volume of submissions, we may end up closing auditions earlier than expected. If that happens, we’ll be sure to announce it here as well beforehand. Our inbox needs a moment to breathe!

  • We are excited!

    Hi guys! The team and I are pleasantly surprised by how much everyone likes the project, and we’ve hit more than 90 submissions in total between the form and CCC! Every single one of you is incredibly talented, and we hope to see even more submissions from talented people like you.

    We already know that picking for these few roles is going to be a challenge, simply because all of you are so great!

    That said, we did also receive some submissions that were clearly AI. Thankfully not on Casting Call Club, but through our form. I just want to say that we do not condone the use of AI, nor do we support it, and we do not want to see or use it in our show.

    Studio Freak Friends is against the use of AI, as are any and all productions we create such as PAP. All AI submissions will be discarded and will not be taken into account whatsoever.

    To everyone else who is a lovely human, I hope you’re all having a great day, and we can’t wait to see what else can be brought to our project. Whether it is an active role or simply support, we appreciate you all very much.

Boss is the eclectic head of the PAP tv station, a position that he adores primarily for the opportunities to impose his own whims over others. He is much like a spoilt child in the ways he directs his subordinates, being incredibly selfish, flighty, and immature. He has little interest in more difficult or uninteresting maintenances, often shirking them off onto others so that he can spend more time pursuing his own immediate pleasures. While Boss is typically scatterbrained, there are also moments of inordinate intelligence that seem to peek through at seemingly random times. These moments typically still revolve around his own self-centred and silly nature.


voice: Energetic mid range male voice. Relaxed and conversational as the baseline, able to jump quickly into frantic, sarcastic, panicked, or theatrical tones. Flexible pacing, fast during chaotic bits, slower during quieter moments. slight rasp when excited is welcome. Should sound approachable underneath the chaos. ability to shift tone fast and make spontaneous noises (to distract his opponents obviously).

Secretary is the proficient and begrudging right-hand woman to Boss, handling all of the tasks he cannot be bothered with or cleaning up messes caused by others. She is highly competent when compared to her wacky coworkers, and on the surface perfectly performs the stereotype of the polished, (if a bit grumpy) dutiful office assistant. Her underlying resentment occasionally slips through via dry or snarky remarks, although it seems she can never outright refuse Boss’s tasks. Reprogrammed from an older model, Secretary sometimes speaks in what sound like canned sitcom lines, or defaults to more shallow and upbeat behaviours that amplify her soap opera “secretary” style even more. These moments can be a bit jarring in serious situations, but are scarcely addressed.


voice:Polished and pleasant on the surface, with tightly restrained irritation underneath. Exasperation should seep through even when she tries to sound agreeable. Very rarely genuinely amused, and even when angry she clearly holds back the worst of it and hates it. Has a slight Slavic accent.

Farfalle is the quiet, steadfast friend and protector of Momo. She is mainly characterized by the fact that she is usually voiceless, responding to situations with small humming noises or cartoon-esque text bubbles. She is also seen as quite intimidating by most other characters, with it often taking no more than her silent stare to cow down anyone trying to antagonize Momo. Much of Farfalle’s protectiveness and intimidation are centred around her, as she has taken the responsibility onto herself to ensure Momo remains physically and emotionally safe. Their bond is very sister-like, with Farfalle only showing genuine affection towards Momo most of the time and seeming to have little to no regard for anyone else, willing to go along with even the most insane plots if it means staying by Momo’s side.

voice:

Openly opinionated, and not afraid to let irritation or disdain slip into the delivery. Important to be able to shift into a softer, calmer tone during rare moments of vulnerability. Must know and speak korean.

Intern is an anxious, easily overwhelmed worker who is commonly assigned to assist Momo and Farfalle in their various escapades. They are often overlooked and typically are only brought out of the background when some low-level task arises or others require a comedic punching bag, though in any instance they still try their best to be useful. However, Intern is also the only one to consistently question their surroundings, calling to attention the strange actions of those around them and feeling unsure what to do in more extreme scenarios. Their behaviour can also shift very suddenly and drastically, going from sharp to gentle, or attentive to indifferent on a dime. What does not change is their unwavering obedience, as well as their general confusion. Intern uses the pronouns they/them, but others consistently refer to them via he/him and they never correct it.


voice: Androgynous tone, with a natural anxious edge. The performer should handle quick emotional shifts and show a wide expressive range, from soft and sweet to detached or abruptly firm. The core delivery should feel uncertain and hesitant.

Wellness Inspector arrives to evaluate staff conditions and ensure the station meets every requirement on his checklist. He believes emotions interfere with clear judgement, preferring to quietly observe and perform clinical interviews rather that directly injecting himself into any given situation. He is calm, cold, precise, and generally unreadable; this unwavering deadpan demeanor easily unnerves others around him. Wellness Inspector does not appear interested in being sociable, and keeps a controlled, mysterious presence.


voice:Controlled, steady, and emotionally flat. Calm delivery, minimal inflection, and a consistently detached tone. Should feel analytical, distant, and unshakable, with an understated but intimidating presence. Always very to the point with limited people skills, almost clinical. British accent (his only defect).

THIS CHARACTER HAS A VA!


Momo is relentlessly cheerful, driven by optimism and genuine enthusiasm. Childish, eager, and endlessly curious, she is easily distracted by the world around her, not out of carelessness but out of wonder. Unlike Boss’s self-centered chaos, Momo’s scattered nature comes from sincerity: she wants to help everyone and be involved in everything, even when she doesn’t fully understand the task or her own limitations, valuing effort and intent over results.


Momo craves approval. She wants desperately to be seen as useful, reliable, and worth keeping around.


Momo’s head is a star that can transform into different objects depending on how well she understands or imagines them. Familiar items can become near-perfect copies, while unfamiliar ones often turn out flawed or unstable. Most often, the star becomes a camera, which Momo uses to film reports for the station, usually with mixed success.

THIS CHARACTER HAS A VA!


Capu is the station’s perfect television host. Adored by Boss and widely admired, he seems to always know what to say, even when his words are not always understood. He has an instinctive feel for spectacle, always finding the perfect moment to start filming, and quickly becomes the center of every broadcast.


Despite a large and devoted fanbase, Capu remains indifferent to praise, wealth, or status. He measures success in impact and visibility, pushing every segment to be bigger, louder, and more extreme. Exhaustion, pressure, and absurdity are simply part of the process.


Capu believes in action over reflection. Problems are solved by doing something (preferably something enormous) and letting momentum carry everything forward. Whether that makes him visionary or reckless depends entirely on how long you’re forced to keep up.
