Introduction to Project MIND
2005, the golden days of Japanese street racing are long gone. Frequent mountainside battles are no longer commonplace. A quiet extinction in the face of tighter policing and the advancement of surveillance technologies. Massive public forums were used like hitlists, former legends going underground and the possibility of evergreen newbies breaking out in the touge scene became scarce.
Then, on the 28th of April. Nestled deep on one of the underground forums. A link to website was posted. The first question simply asking,
"Are you the best driver in Japan? Prove it."
A series of races revealed to competitors over the course of the year. Protection from any interference from the police, and a chance to make some serious money. But more importantly, a window of opportunity for new legends to be forged.

Hello Casting Call Club! This is a 12 episode long series, of which we're currently looking at approximately ~2 years of production. Aiming to release an episode every 2 months. The show is filmed entirely on the game Assetto Corsa, utilizing both bespoke car models and community tracks. We're currently working on episode 2 of this series.
What are we looking for?
First, an explanation. Each episode will have it's own unique cast of characters and therefore require a different set of voices to fill those roles. However, there will be recurring characters that we will call you back to voice for. So if you plan to apply for those roles we ask that you're available to retain the role at a later date.
Given this is unpaid work, all we ask if that any prospective VA's apply with minimal background noise and the best quality microphone you have available.
Though you don't have to be interested in Japanese street racing culture. We'd highly advise at least learning a bit about racing in general. We don't adhere to it tightly but it is still our main inspiration and having real world examples to draw from can elevate your performance (and in our opinion is pretty cool).
Expectations and Deadlines
We prefer you send .wav files for your auditions but mp3 works fine. Just know the show will require you to send in .wav files when recording lines for your character.
The deadline for auditions is currently the 22nd of May. Starting the the 23rd we will rollout the script for episode 2 of which the deadline is May 31st.
If you cannot record between the 23rd of May and the 31st of may, please do not audition for a role at this time.
Each voice actor will receive a script with their lines, along with a pre-recorded video of the scene in which those lines were used. Since there are no actual characters on screen, we’ll ask you to follow the exact timing of your lines so they align with the frame cuts. To help with this, each scene will have subtitles (custom-made for your character) that will last exactly as long as the line should.

Son of Takeshi, a single child. Losing his mother young quietened down what was once a shy but friendly young man. Focussing solely on pushing himself more and more on the road in order to fulfil his father’s wishes. He comes off an awkward and aloof. Racing isn't as exciting to him as others. Doesn't have many if any friends and spends his days working or practicing.
- Drab, generally uninterested with people
- Blunt and abrasive, not particularly social
- Easily Annoyed
Best way to describe his voice is slightly breathy with a tiredness towards everything. Think of the 'typical teenager' archetype toned down.

Uhuh… If you’re fast enough, it wouldn't even matter.
Yeah, yeah. Gotta take it seriously and all.

Keeping respectful and genuine touge culture alive. He's an enthusiastic but soft spoken presence. Humble and willing to take anything on just to experience it. Driving is his passion, racing is just another form of it.

Drivers really push themselves around this corner. Get close enough and some of their spoilers might shave your face for you -if there was...Well- y’know. Any facial hair to begin with.
Thanks to you of course. You’re pretty sharp behind the wheel.
Ahhh-! That’s a little embarrassing... I made a lot of mistakes on that run.

A veteran racer who participated in the height of 90's street racing. He was known as the last real legend to come out of the scene. For 3 years now he's been running a racing school and dodging numerous professional teams that still seek his talent out. He's already proven himself and aspires to help other fulfil their potential. Masaaki is warm towards his confidants but maintains a cool demeanour when discussing anything car related. From setup, to racing techniques. He rarely if ever gets overly excited. Currently the leader of the Rotary Axes, a touge team founded between Masaaki and Hayato.
- Calculating, intelligent and observant
- Always keeps calm (and carries on)
- Quietly compassionate, he teaches not enforces.

Don’t be too cocky. Anything can happen, this guy’s fast in the corners so keep it tight. Got it?
The 13B-REW is a 1.3 litre twin turbo dual rotor engine that was actually Japan's first exported sequential twin-turbo system.
If you let your emotions cloud your judgement, you're only going to keep making mistakes. Calm down, read the situation and execute accordingly.

A retired legend, having raced on Haruna and made a name for himself back in the late 70's and early 80's. Has been training up his son Ren ever since his mother passed away 6 years ago. He's as old school as you can get. He's a wise mentor to his son when it comes to driving, but seems to struggle in the more normal avenues of life. Not much of a talker himself, Takeshi is a man who enjoys his private time. Raises his voice rarely and has a slight gravel to his voice being a chronic smoker. Has worked as a mechanic for over 20 years.
- Has a limited amount of patience, naturally a bit tense due to money being tight.
- A bit carefree about anything other than racing, there's still a passion for it but he's quote 'had his fair share already'.
- Closed off emotionally and trying to figure out how to connect with Ren.

Faster doesn’t mean smarter kiddo.
When you’re moping like that means something’s on your mind.
Christ kid, could you stop giving me backtalk and actually listen? I'm trying to help you win here!

Hayato Kasai is a semi-professional GT driver aspiring to go full pro. He helped Masaaki found his driving school and occasionally teaches there. Hayato is a carefree party boy with a surprisingly technical understanding of racing in spite of his out-of-office activities. He's blunt, sometimes even a little abrasive but he will rarely lie or deceive others. Though he isn't interested in touge racing Masaaki opened his eyes to what aspects of it could make him a better driver. Acts like an older brother to Rin.
- Direct and honest, doesn't shy away from confronting people.
- Prefers informal speech, quote 'Bein' all proper can be drag'
- Though he does his best to feign nonchalance, he's genuinely passionate about racing.

Now- uh, how’s this thing run again? Wasn’t paying too much attention last time.
How the hell did you mess that up-?? Dude, don't fuckin' overthink it. You need to trust yourself.
Bumping cars is a part of racing. But, if you feel like sending the guy who did it into a barrier is justified, I'm not sayin' it's thaaat wrong.
This is a more open category where people can submit their voices to be used further down the line in the project. We will have a constant need for VA's and any submissions here can possibly lead to callbacks down the line. Especially in the avenue of female adult voices! But any and all can submit an audition.
