Pride & Prejudice Audio Drama
Project Overview
We are casting roles for a 4-episode audio drama podcast adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. This is a passion project with limited (non-existent) budget. At this time, compensation is credit, exposure, and if cast you'll have the opportunity to have material provided for you to add to your demo reel.
Character descriptions and auditions are listed below. British accents of some form are a must for this project.
All roles are open except for Elizabeth and Darcy. My wife and I have never been able to act together in roles like this, and we're the directors and get to do what we want, so you'd better believe I'm gonna romance her up when I get the chance!
DM me or comment below if you have any questions. Thanks so much for helping with this project!

Description: (of Netherfield, Hertfordshire, Darcy's Friend). "Just what a young man ought to be; sensible and good-humoured, lively ... such happy manners! So much ease, with such perfect good breeding.... Also handsome, which a young man ought likewise to be if he possibly can."

I think we are in luck to have such charming neighbours. You know we saw two of the young ladies going through the lane the other day. Why, Darcy, one of them is the most beautiful creature I ever beheld—and the other—the one with the dark eyes—she is uncommonly pretty. Don't you think so?
Description: (Cousin to Darcy). "About thirty, not handsome, but in person and address most truly the gentleman."

And, remember, that I haven't much reason for supposing it to be Bingley. What he told me was merely this: that he congratulated himself on having lately saved a friend from the inconveniences of a most imprudent marriage, but without names or any other particulars, and I only suspected it to be Bingley from believing him to be the kind of young man to get into a scrape of that sort.
Description: (of Longbourn). "An odd mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve and caprice. He was fond of the country and of books, and from these tastes had arisen his principal enjoyments."

An unhappy alternative is before you, Elizabeth. From this day, you must be a stranger to one of your parents. Your mother will never see you again, if you do not marry Mr. Collins; and I will never see you again if you do.
Description: (a Cousin of Mr. Bennet, and Next in the Entail of Longbourn Estate.) "A tall, heavy-looking young man of five-and-twenty. His air was grave and stately, and his manners very formal. His veneration for his patroness, Lady Catherine de Bourg, mingling with a very good opinion of himself and of his authority as a clergyman ... made him altogether a mixture of pride and obsequiousness, self-importance and humility."

Mr. Darcy? Mr. Fitzgerald Darcy! My dear Madam, can it be possible that you are to be honoured by a visit from him? Respectable indeed! Why, he is the nephew of my noble patroness, Lady Catherine de Bourg. It is true that I have never yet had the honour of meeting him—but he frequently visits his aunt, and she has promised to bring him on some occasion to inspect my humble abode. I am surprised, indeed, by this civility on his part.
Description: (an Intimate Friend and Neighbour of the Bennets). "Formerly in trade in Meryton ... he had risen to the honour of knighthood by an address to the King during his mayoralty. The distinction had ... given him a disgust to his business, and, ... quitting it, he had removed ... to Lucas Lodge, where he could think with pleasure of his own importance, and ... occupy himself solely in being civil to all the world."

Our friends usually have very sharp eyes for what is going on, Mrs. Bennet! [Significantly.] I have, indeed, sometimes expected that you would observe what has been going on in our own household of late.
Description: (the Colonel of the Regiment Stationed at Meryton).

Oh, Miss Jane, Miss Elizabeth! Your aunt, Mrs. Phillips, has sent word by me that her card-party is to be on Wednesday. She hopes you will surely be there.
Description: (an Officer in the Regiment). "Endowed with all the best parts of beauty—a fine countenance, a good figure, and a very pleasing address. As false and deceitful as he is insinuating."
- male adult

Miss Elizabeth, you have been a witness of Mr. Darcy's treatment of me to-day, and therefore I feel that I must, for my own justification, acquaint you with the facts of my past connection with him.
Description: (Another Officer in the Regiment).

[Aside to Elizabeth significantly.] I do not imagine his business would have called him away just now if he had not wished to avoid a certain gentleman.
Description: (the Butler at Longbourn).

The two gentlemen from Netherfield have just brought their horses into the paddock, Madam.
Description: (the Wife of Mr. Bennet). "A woman of mean understanding, little information, and uncertain temper. When she was discontented she fancied herself nervous. The business of her life was to get her daughters married; its solace was visiting and news."
- female senior

[With animation.] Why, my dear, you must know Lady Lucas says that Netherfield is taken by a young man of large fortune from the North of England. His name is Bingley, and he is single, my dear. Think of that, Mr. Bennet! A single man of large fortune; four or five thousand pounds a year. What a fine thing for our girls!
Description: (Eldest Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet). "She united with great strength of feeling a composure of temper and a uniform cheerfulness of manner. Her mild and steady candour always pleaded allowances, and urged the possibility of mistakes."

And I think Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy promise well. If the half of what our neighbours say is true, Mr. Bingley will give us all sorts of gaieties. [Slyly.] Who knows? We may find him as entertaining as Mr. Wickham.
Description: (Their Youngest Daughter). "A stout, well-grown girl of fifteen, with a fine complexion and a good-humoured countenance—a favourite with her mother, whose affection had brought her into public at an early age."

I'm sure I would have excused you. But what is Mr. Collins here for, mamma? I am sure I caught Mr. Wickham and Colonel Forster laughing at him the day we went to Meryton. Why does papa have a cousin like that?
Description: (the Wife of Sir William). "Not too clever to be a valuable neighbour to Mrs. Bennet."
- female adult
- british
Well, really, Mrs. Bennet!
Description: (Daughter of Sir William and Lady Lucas). "A sensible, intelligent young woman, about twenty-seven, ... Elizabeth's intimate friend."
- female adult

I wouldn't be a simpleton, Eliza. You are angry because Wickham is not here, but I wouldn't allow my fancy for him to make me unpleasant in the eyes of a man of ten times his consequence.
Description: (Sister of Mr. Bingley). "A very fine lady ... but proud and conceited."

You are considering how insufferable it would be to pass many evenings in such society. Indeed, I am quite of your opinion. I was never more annoyed. The insipidity and yet the noise;—the nothingness and yet the self-importance of all these people! What would I give to hear your strictures on them!
Description: (Aunt of Darcy and Patroness of Mr. Collins). "A tall, large woman, with strongly marked features, which might once have been handsome. Her air was not conciliating.... Whatever she said, was spoken in so authoritative a tone as marked her self-importance."

- female senior
You keep too many hens, Mrs. Collins. There is just a certain number which are profitable—beyond that there is waste. A clergyman's wife should set an example of thrift. You should have asked my advice.
Description: (the Housekeeper at Longbourn).

Yes, do, I beg of you, Madam. Now that you are once more in the air, if you will only take some food you will feel much better.
Description: (the Maid at Mr. Collins's Parsonage).

[Enters in great excitement.] Oh, Mrs. Collins! Lady Catherine's carriage is turning into the lane and she is in it!
