Project Overview

Hi there! I’m Nick, and with the help of some of my friends, I’m working to create an abridged series based on Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. We are currently casting 7-8 parts for the first episode and will continue to cast based on need. If you’re interested in voice acting, Pokemon, or even in abridging, feel free to send me an inquiry.

If you would like to send me a demo or audition via email, you can find the link to the google docs casting call page here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18Z-1zxjkYaJiaOEGQukU_s7efASN2u3y9dpa4hOq9wQ/edit?usp=sharing

Nate/Piplup

The player character: a human turned into a pokemon.

Nate is abrasive and emotional, but well meaning. Despite his new and unfamiliar surrounding often confusing and frustrating him, he maintains a mostly positive outlook. His emotions can get the better of him, causing trouble for him and his partner. He has a solid grasp of right and wrong, and will help people if he can.

What We’re Looking For: Early 20s, Slightly more masculine voice, though masculine or feminine voices are both encouraged to audition. Looking for a more abrasive and aggressive performance to contradict and complement his soft spoken and meek partner. A grounded and solid performance is prefered over a silly voice for this role.

  • (Furious, Indignant)

“What do you mean Ten Percent? We didn’t slave through Ten Percent of Drenched Bluff! Give us our money!”

  • (Frantic, Confused, Slow Realization)

“I’m a human! I mean just look at me! I got flippers and webbed toes and blue feathers and a beak and I…turned into a piplup didn’t I?“

  • (Over Confident)

“C’mon, it’s just a stupid cave. You got nothing to worry about!”

The Partner Pokemon

At their core, their are a brave and adventurous pokemon, but that core is surrounded by a thick layer of insecurity. Despite their strong desire to explore and help people, they rarely are willing to stand up for themselves. They often find themself as a victim of minor injustices. However, they are very trusting and willing to see the good in people.

What We’re Looking For: Early 20s: Masculine or feminine voice. Burnie’s soft spoken, warm, sweet voice is meant to complement the more abrasive nature of their partner. They have a slight tendency to stumble on their words when they get nervous.

  • (Nervous, fearful of rejection, but still a bit excited.)

“I-If you got nowhere to go, would you like to form an exploration team with me?”

  • (Mesmerized, Speechless)

“I never dreamed that I’d ever discover a place as wonderful as this!”

  • (Heartbroken, lost, on the verge of tears.)

But that relic fragment was actually my personal treasure! Without it...I...I don’t know what to do…)

A Brutish Bully

Koffing is needlessly mean and judgmental, calling Burnie names and tormenting them constantly. He is often seen as a follower, repeating things others say and do without thinking about it too much. He is also quite dumb.

What We’re Looking For: mid 20s-early 30s masculine. Koffing’s speaking pattern is doofy and unrefined. His voice is a bit deeper than most, and he speaks like a dimwitted cartoon character. Feel free to slightly mispronounce bigger words as this character.

  • (Smug, mocking, malicious)

“Geez, what a degenerate! We might have to turn you into that explorers guild as an outlaw.”

  • (Explaining an object to someone who can’t see it)

“And then the three cloud lookin’ things all point towards the center and join the circle.”

  • (Sarcastic)

Oh yeah we’ll get right on that! Throw years of taking your stuff out the window for this one rock.”

A Bratty Bat

This little lying, conniving jerk loves to pick on gullible, easy targets like Burnie. He has a habit of stealing valuables from people and scampering away before they can get him. If they do get him, he knows most of the time he’s outmatched, so he’ll usually lie his way out.

What We’re Looking For: Mid 20s Masculine voice. Zubat’s voice is considerably high pitched and nasal. His voice is quite ratlike.

  • (Said quickly and in a mocking tone as he flees.)

“Thanks for the treasure Dummy, we’re gonna split now! And remember you can’t hurt me I’m bliiiiiind!”

  • (Intrigued, dollar signs are in his eyes.)

“You’re begging us? Man that must mean this rock is super valuable!”

Omniscient Storyteller

Kind and inviting introduction to this children’s game. Takes their quiz very seriously, and disregarding it seriously ticks them off. Prides themself on being a decent judge of character, which also means they can be quite critical of you.

What We’re Looking For: Old, wise voice. Masculine or feminine voices accepted.

  • (Frustrated)

“Why am I even bothering with the quiz if you’re gonna reset any time you don’t get a charmander or something.”

  • (“Confidently closing the chapter” into “confused at what they just read”)

“And so our heroes embarked on a journey of tragedy, sorrow, betrayal, and death.

… this...this is for kids, right?”

Grovyle the Thief

The cool one. Confident, determined, but serious to a fault. He laser focuses on something, and refuses to give up on whatever that is. He remains very collected throughout, even in the worst of times. He is, however, the worst socially. He often doesn’t pick up on very obvious emotional tells unless they’re explicitly stated to him.

What We’re Looking For: Late 20s, early 30s Masculine voice. Deep and smooth voice. His voice is steady and easy to listen to. He speaks genuinely and with authority. He is a leader, not by force, but because of the stern dignified way he addresses others.

  • (Panicking, losing his grip on what’s closest to him, trying to be strong regardless.)

“It’s alright, I’m right here! We just need to hold on a little longer!”

  • (Relieved, Impressed, Nostalgic)

“You make a good partner, I can see why they stuck by you.”

  • (Deadly serious)

“We’ve already survived two certain death scenarios, what’s one more?”

Three heads are better than one?

Dug, Tri, and O are three digletts come together to form this mess of a pokemon. Dug (The tallest head in the back) Is calm and collected, but quite forgetful. Tri (the shortest head on the right) Is a quiet fella, but is remarkably responsible. O (the head on the left) Is loud and emotional, but dutiful and passionate.

What We’re Looking For: Masculine, mid 30s

Dug: Soft, warm, inviting voice.

Tri: Quiet, tired, weakened voice

O: Gravelly and strained. That of a man who shouts a lot.

Note: You can audition for all of these roles individually or separately. If you wanna play Dug but not O, that’s fine.

  • Dug:

(A little weary of his other heads, but still proud.)

“I like to think as a group we equal one well put together person.”

  • Tri:

(Tired, but busy and needs to get this done)

“Stand back everyone, we gotta update the board…”

  • O:

    (Ran out of patience, shouting.)

    “This isn’t about you, Dug!”
