Phoenix Rising Casting Call #1 (Smash Machinima)
Project Overview
Phoenix Rising is a Machinima about the Nintendo Characters we all know and love mysterious arriving in the world of Smash, without any memory or knowledge of how they got there. The story follows Lucas, who after the events of his Game/Adventure, does not want to play the role of Hero again, knowing the trouble and sorrow it brings. He gathers a group of fellow “Smashers” to search and find the truth behind these events, and to hopefully find a way back home. He’s not the only one who’s had this idea, as the story also follows other groups searching for the truth as well as dealing with their own dilemnas, such as Pit and his search to save an old friend, and Marth and his recruitment of an Army to tackle what he believes to be a new threat on the horizon.
We have a small pre-requisite for those who do get a role in the Machinima, and it’s recommended that you do prepare for this in advance. We ask of you to have an account on a site or Program such as Skype or Discord (preferably Skype, but we want to be flexible) where we can consistently and reliably keep in contact with you for when we are in need of lines. This way, we can have a more reliable way of progressing our episodes and schedules to make them. Other than that, anyone is free to audition. : )
All Characters that have an official voice will be used as reference so that we can try to get it close to the canon voice as possible, unless stated otherwise.

Tactician of the Ylissean military and the avatar of the player for Fire Emblem Awakening. Robin, for a man who lost his memories in a field a long ago is a brilliant strategist and master of both spells and swords. His tactics led Ylisse to victory many times and through times of great difficulty. He once again acts the role of Tactician behind the scenes, but for whom?
As the right hand tactician to Prince Chrom he is Calm, composed, and confident in his abilities and expresses it as such through his voice. For reference please look at the defaulted voice for Robin in Awakening and Smash Bros.
(Confident) “It’s time to tip the scales!”
(Calm and composed) “I want you to keep an eye out for her. She’s an old friend of mine, and i want to make sure she stays safe.”
(Focused and firm, like a real Military Strategist, which he is) “If their forces are planning to attack them at Hanenbow, then our best course of action is to cut them off at Halberd. It’s a strategic site where we can use the Platform to our advantage to overwhelm them with Projectiles!”

Wario, Head of WarioWare Inc., endlessly greedy and seeking more ways to get wealthier in not just underhanded and cheap tricks but with legitimate business strategy!? Okay no, he’s rotten to the core. Siding with what is clearly a winning side he’ll not only show off his impressive strength but also HOW he got to where he is with his cunning. For Wario we can reference a lot of voice acting from the talented Voice actor Charles Martinet with that grit and mean flair he throws in.
(Happy, proud) “Wahahaha! Who said I do anything fair!”
(Angered) “You think I’m stupid!? I didn’t make a multi-billion dollar company just to be mocked!”
(Defensive) “Hey lady, floor ice cream is good for you.”

Dark Pit, or as i prefer to call him, Pittoo! A clone of Pit who originally opposed his doppelganger and everything he stood for, the two ended up forming an alliance, which grew to become a solid bond of companionship with one another.He’s been avoiding Pit and has been rumored to have been doing some shady actions as of late in this new world, what could possibly be up with him?
For Pittoo, we want someone who can sound very serious and focused (even monotone at times when needed), yet at others become extremely passionate and outspoken and firm about his beliefs and values; we also want a voice that is still decently young and sounding around his teen years. For reference, his voice acting in his Debut game of Kid Icarus Uprising as well as Smash Bros. 4 will suffice.

Heir to the Ylissian throne from a ruined Future. She follows and looks up to Marth as a hero and leader of the past, rather than as Family, and she is very loyal to him. Similar to Marth, we want someone who can be Formal, Calm and Composed, but also casual at times, as well as firm and determined when she is serious, strong in her convictions. For reference, there's the magnificient Laura Bailey's voice work for her in Fire Emblem Awakening, as well as Smash Bros. 4.
Female Role (though, a feminine Male role may suffice depending on your audition)
(Serious) “You’re right, I am a bit tense, but do not fear. It will NOT affect my abilities.”
(A bit in Awe for the first half, and more formal with the second half) “I read about you in the stories from my kingdom. You were a renowned hero, and I bore your name to inspire hope in my time.”
(Determined and Resolved) “You think that in time, we STILL won’t be able to overcome you? Well we won’t stop fighting, we won’t give up, and WE WILL CHANGE OUR FATES!”

Marth, Hero King of Altea, a bit meek and kind with a distaste in fighting. Marth searches for a way to return to his Kingdom and People, alongside his newly found descendant Lucina, and slowly gathering more and more people to his side as he searches for a way back.
Marth has a unique quirk where his native tongue is Japanese, but he has learned English in order to better understand other nations needs and converse with them, so when he is in times of great stress or is embarrassed in a casual setting, he can slip into Japanese lines. (Don’t worry however, this is not too often, it’s only every once in awhile, you won’t be speaking in full Japanese, and we’ll provide the pronunciation of the line as well as ways to hear how it’s pronounced aloud when we do call for it).
He’s Marth, so we encourage you to speak to Lucina not as an ally but like a sibling-of-arms. For his voice in both Japanese and English, we want a voice that can be quiet, formal and polite in normal conversations, but can also go into the area of having a determined, firm voice for when Marth delivers a rallying speech or states his strong convictions. For reference, we recommend studying the lines of Hikaru Midorikawa (aka the voice actor for Marth in all Smash titles). We also heavily recommend for the Japanese line to use Google Translate to hear it aloud so you can pronounce it properly.
(Formal) “I am glad you are with me, Lucina.”

Samus Aran, The Famous Bounty Hunter who’s saved her galaxy multiple times and is very determined and confident in her abilities. For Samus, we’re looking for a voice that can be cold, confident and/or serious at times, but can have a kind, caring motherly tone at times, and even a surprisingly cheerful and energetic spirit that she doesn’t show often. We do not want the voice to be completely dead on accurate to her voice work in Metroid Other M, we want her to have a bit more leeway with being more energetic and fun at times and not serious 24/7, so look at her Brawl/Smash 4 takes on her voice for this one.
(Deadly Serious, then cheery) “I’ve fought Space Parasites, Deadly Dragons, and a giant brain...I can definitely get you into that toy factory over there.”
(Unsurprised Snark) “Wow, you guys really are lost without your leaders, aren’t you?”
(casual) “I’ve got to admit, it’s actually been pretty nice not having a Mission that sends me to a rainy, toxic, dangerous world for the first time in a long time. ”

The Scared Plumber who’s always in the shadow of his loved and celebrated Bro, it’s the big L(uigi) himself! After his recent win against Bowser in the world of Dreams, he was finally starting to gain some confidence in himself...
But now he is alone in a new big world, without his brother by his side for the first time in ages. Luigi is traveling alongside Pit to press on and find Mario, despite his all too familiar feelings of fear coming back to haunt him.
For Luigi’s role, we want your traditional Luigi impression, the scared man with an Italian accent who stutters here and there, but can get serious and brave when times truly call for it. For reference, Charles Martinet’s brilliant voice work of Luigi will suffice.

(Nervous) “I-I don’t-a know about this Pit, this seems like a v-very bad idea.”

The Captain of Lady Palutena’s guard and the Angel who can’t fly! A bit nervous at being on his own without said Goddess to guide him on this adventure, and on the search for a missing friend, Pit is heading out on another adventure! For his voice, we really want to aim for his Uprising Take on his voice over his Brawl impression to really nail the role of this Pit. So in other words, a early/mid Teen years sounding voice that can be positive, rambunctious and full of life and energy, that can also emote and do a great job of getting emotional when neccessary.

He’s a serious man but one who prefers nothing more than a life away from war and killing. We’re looking for that gruff voice Snake is known for that was provided by his actor David Hayter.

Wolf, “can’t let you do that” leader of Star Wolf. A cunning leader and fearsome fighter with an personality to match, he comes up against our heroes quite a bit. Under his intimidating personality however, he has a high sense of honor as well. We’re looking for a bit of growl in his voice when he’s frustrated, to add that little bit of “wolf” along side that smooth deep voice that he has in Star Fox: Assault.

Everyone’s favorite Robotic Operating Buddy, but in this case he’s being used as free labor. The ROBs aren’t a hive mind and will follow orders but imagine them like the battle droids from Star Wars. They have a personality but they are fully loyal to those who command them. The voice itself can vary from Monotone to nearly happy to comically serious.
And before you say anything, yes, if you’d like, you can give your voice a robotic effect to give off that full Star Wars Droid appeal. It’s not required, but you can do that.
NOTE: Due to the sheer amount of lines we have to demonstrate the many emotions and sides of R.O.B., we'll be having two sets of Lines below, one for more Serious Moments and one for more Casual/Silly moments.

Ganondorf, Wielder of the triforce of power and King of Darkness. As the King of Darkness he’s a powerful warrior and he knows it. He exudes the confidence of a leader at all times while demonstrating his power talking down to his opponents and lets allies know they are outclassed in his raw power. We are looking for someone who can replicate the work of Taiten Kusunoki who provided the voice of Ganondorf in Hyrule Warriors. Deep, formal and commanding exudes the authority the king of darkness demands. We also have secret extra lines for you to audition for should you be considered to have a shot in the role.

For Fox we’re looking for something a bit higher in the male vocal spectrum that can be commanding and dignified, yet with a hint of rebellion. For the kind of Fox reference and voice we’re looking for, look at Jim Walker’s voice work for Fox in games such as Smash Bros Brawl, or Star Fox: Assault.
(Formal) “This is Fox, returning to base.”
(Commanding, and slightly rebellious) “BOWSER! LUCARIO! Bring. It. Down. YOU need to stop being so Arrogant, and YOU need to stop being so Prideful! No one is better than anyone else here, alright?”

We’re looking for someone who is able to act regal, polite, and be slightly blunt with her voice, yet somewhat calming as well.

Lucario, The Famous (or Infamous depending on your POV) Steel/Fighting Type Pokemon who made his debut in Pokemon’s 4th Gen, he comes from a Trainer that encouraged his Abilities as his main Pokemon to the fullest, giving him an Arrogant, Strong and Bratty mindset. This role is an exception to our Official Voice reference rule, as we are not choosing to go with the typical (yet still well done) voice work of a Raspy, Gruff voice for Lucario such as Sean Schemmel’s work in the 8th Pokemon movie and Smash Bros 4. What we are looking for voice wise is someone who sounds decently old (perhaps in his early adult years), can be very energetic and confident, even a bit cocky at times, non-gruff or serious, as well as someone who can get aggressive and commanding of his words and convictions. Basically, prepare to be a brat.
(Cocky and overconfident) “Heh, so, you think you can give me a challenge eh? Well then, COME AT ME WITH ALL YOU GOT!”
(Bratty) “I don’t need to train. I already have all the power and experience i could ever need, so don’t bother me about it.”
(Surprised and bewildered, then Frustrated) "Wh-WHAT!? I lost? But how!? I'm supposed to be the strongest!"

The Ninja from hell- uhh… Sheikah ninja. A mysterious (Really?) figure on the side of the villains. She has a quiet voice with a harsh undertone and wit to match. imagine her talking down to others she views as less intelligent and lording it over them that she is smarter. Be prepared to snark. Some secret lines for those that have a shot in the role.
Also, for further clarification, "Bob-omb" is pronounced, "Buh-Bomb".

(Sarcastic) “Oh, and i suppose you’ll want some of Grandma’s Home-Made Chicken Soup to go with those captured heroes, do you?”
(Annoyed snark) “Can you just be quiet?! If you speak any louder, they’ll think we’ve dropped a Bob-omb next door.”
(Offended, confident in the end.) “Hmph. You just don’t understand the fine art of stealth, allow me to show you just how effective it really is.”
