Phage Assassin — Animated Pilot Casting Call
Project Overview
Phage Assassin is an independently produced animated action sci-fi comedy primarily set inside the human body.
When a new deadly virus threatens the life of a young girl, 22-year-old biologist Aviva Vance becomes the first human miniaturized to nanoscale and deployed directly into the bloodstream. Guided by close friend and scientist Petra Wells, Aviva must navigate a microscopic world filled with enormous blood cells, alien immune defenses, and dangerous pathogens while carrying out a mission no one has ever attempted before.
The pilot serves as both a self-contained story and the proof of concept for the animated series.
Inspired by microbiology, the series combines grounded scientific ideas with stylized action, surreal environments, comedy, unique artistic design, and heartfelt character interactions.
This is currently a volunteer (unpaid) project. As an independently produced proof of concept pilot, I am unfortunately unable to offer financial compensation at this stage. I deeply appreciate everyone who chooses to contribute their time and talent.
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Role: Lead
Aviva Vance is the kind-hearted protagonist of Phage Assassin. She’s curious, optimistic, empathetic, and occasionally awkward, but when lives are on the line she is capable of courage she didn’t know she had.
Looking for a warm, expressive voice that can naturally move between wonder, fear, comedy, and determination. She spends much of the pilot reacting to the overwhelming microscopic world around her.
Voice Qualities: Warm, energetic, expressive, slightly nerdy, able to scream convincingly without sounding forced.
- female young adult
Under stress but determined: “Okay Aviva, think small…”
Panicked: “PETRA. You didn’t tell me white blood cells could squeeze through the vessel walls!!”
Gentle, reassuring: “Just hang in there a bit longer. I’m gonna make sure you get to play softball again.”
Gender: Female
Age: 25
Role: Supporting Lead
Petra Wells is Phage Assassin’s deuteragonist. She is a brilliant microbiologist and the scientist responsible for the invention of miniaturization technology. Petra is logical, analytical, dry, and devastatingly literal. She doesn’t express it emotionally, but she is highly concerned for the safety of Aviva and Patient Zero.
Looking for a voice that can sound dry and understated but also tense when need be. Petra anchors Aviva’s wonder and empathy.
Voice Qualities: Restrained, dry, sometimes cold, able to deliver something heartfelt without being very emotionally expressive.
- female young adult
Reasonable: “You cannot function if you are constantly overwhelmed by scale.”
Tense but composed: “Aviva. You need to get out of there immediately.
Dry but sincere: “She’s doing alright. She asked me to tell you goodnight for her.”
Gender: Male
Age: 29
Role: Supporting
Claude Marke is a supporting character in Phage Assassin. Claude is procurement for materials needed by Petra and Poncho, and has a very slippery and charming personality. He’s witty, crafty, and considers himself refined, often complaining if he’s required to do dirty work.
Looking for a voice that has warmth and charm but can also tense under stress. Despite the crafty mask, Claude is capable of genuine care and concern.
- male young adult
Trying to charm his way out of physical labor: ”Now Petra, do I really look like the type who should be working on the pod with Poncho?”
Relaxed and smooth: “Oh please, Petra. You know a guy who always knows a guy. Nothing to be prickly about.”
Tense but showing care: “Don’t expect me to enjoy getting dirt on my jacket.”
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Role: Supporting
Poncho Holst is a supporting character in Phage Assassin. He is Petra’s enthusiastic engineer, and designer of Aviva’s micropod and biotech suit. Poncho is artistic, abstract, and frequently inspired. He takes pride in his work and is often disappointed when it gets damaged.
Looking for a somewhat expressive voice that communicates both intelligence and eccentricity. Poncho often is distracted by is own work when observing Aviva’s missions, but can also become concerned when things get serious.
- male young adult
Admiring his work in action: ”Ah, there it is! The pearlescent ochre was the right choice!”
Evaluating Aviva’s request: “No no, trust me this is not your color. We can’t have you clashing while you save the world.”
Heartbroken at the micropod being damaged: “She was a fine craft… Claude, I’ll be needing more parts.”
Gender: Female
Age: 7
Role: Featured
Emma Suffield is a character featured in the animated pilot of Phage Assassin. Emma is kind, expressive, enthusiastic, and enjoys activities such as softball. She has developed a mutating virus that could be detrimental to the world if it were to spread, and Aviva is the only person who can save her.
Looking for a voice that conveys fragility and weakness from being ill, while also retaining childlike brightness and curiosity. To Emma, Aviva seems like a superhero.
Curious: “So Aviva is so small I can’t see her?”
Slightly sad: “I wish I could show you how I play softball.”
Sleepy but sincere: “Aviva? I think you are going to save even more people after I’m feeling better…”
