Once in the 50s (An audiobook)
Project Overview
hello everyone! Welcome to the auditions for this Audiobook we‘re writing!
inspired by a tumblr text post, Once in the 50s is an audiobook telling the story of 5 housewives. After the success of a serum claiming to give men enhanced agility, force and speed, men and kids all over westshire bought this so called Miracle serum.
regarding the current position women were in back then, they were denied the access to the serum, and weren’t allowed to taste it, or try it. But something went wrong.
the human body was incapable of handling the strong components of the serum, therefore putting all the people who tried it in a zombie-like state. This then turned into a virus, spreading all over westshire.
but what’s the problem? It only affected men!
Now it’s up to our 5 main housewives to stop this so called apocalypse. While recruiting a few more characters along the way, they will try their best to stop this apocalypse in this action packed audiobook!
- this audiobook will be posted in both YouTube, and audiobook platforms!
- please, do keep in mind that the writer is a minor, and they cant monetize this project!
and they have no way on paying the voice actors (we’re sorry about that!)
what will it have?
- for the YouTube version of the story, art will be made to go along with what’s happening in the story!

life seems like a dream for Linda here in westshire! It’s the life any woman would wish for. Linda is your average, happy-go-lucky housewife (Think Agatha from wandavision!) Linda is a very sweet and caring woman, she’s always there for everyone! Wether it be her friends, her son, or her loving husband Michael. She often makes jokes just for the sake of cheering people up. But when the time comes for her to be brave, Linda becomes a leader, and will ensure that victory ensues!
(Spreading a rumor, playfully)
“A little bird told me Susan is getting married again. They say This’ll be her fourth husband!”
(Happily) “Oh, Barbara! Dear! Have you seen little Timmy Here? He’s as fit as a butchers dog! (playfully) he‘s told me he wants us to arrange a playdate so he can see Emma again!
(Serious) “Cut the gas Betsy. I’m sure I just heard something out there! Really. (Somehow scared) We ought to be quiet if we want to keep our heads on their places.”
Betsy is one of Linda’s Best friends. They meet up on sundays, and talk about life.
their children also go to school together, that’s how both of them met!
Linda knows all the rumors in town, but she’s really good at keeping secrets. most of the time she only tells them to Linda and that’s it.
Linda is a very fun woman to be around, although she can come off as pretty sarcastic or rude at times, she is a very good mother and a wonderful wife.
when trouble comes to town, she’ll try her best to support her friends and join in the squad to find a way to stop this! Yes, she might be scared, but she‘ll give it all she’s got.
(being introduced to Barbara’s children) ”oh, would you look at that! You’ve got some adorable ankle-biters! How old are they?”
(Rather surprise, learning about the issue)
“alright, let me see if I’m getting what yer’ saying. Women are thought to be the only survivors? Gee.. what surprise.. I do hope bob is alright.”
Barbara is such a talk box! shes A very chipper woman, and will always express what she’s feeling. This might come in handy in some situations, but in others... eh.. not so much. She always has the good advice, and she knows plenty of survival skills!
(Facing trouble, nervous, but excited) “Oh, I know I know how to use an axe! Leave it up to me, girls!“
(curious, learning about the apocalypse)
“No...way. I refuse to belive this is happenin‘. Ive never been more confused Before! we gals are the only ones left?“
A very loving mother of 2 (think Wanda from wandavision!) shes a very calm woman, with a husband in a very important job. She has a very sweet voice that almost assures you everything will be alright!
(Calming) “today was a long day, wasnt it? Well, why don’t we go to sleep and try to come up with something tomorrow? We’ve still got time!”
(happy) “isn’t it grand? Just the 5 of us, off in a wonderful adventure! We’ve got this! We can do it!”
The youngest housewife in the group, she’s only 24, and a bit inexperienced. but She’s a pretty nice person to hang out with! Being the youngest one of the group, all the other housewives treat her as if she were their child, taking care of her in certain situations, but also underestimating her.. which makes peggy very sad. But she will teach them that she is one not to be messed with!
(Interrupting the other gals)
“Gals, gals. Lets all take a moment to remember that I am 24 years old and not a 14 year old girl..
now that we have that in mind, we may continue talking!”
“Get it together, Linda. Be strong! You are so much more than this!”
The narrator of the story! the one that tells us what is going on and the points of view from all the characters.
“It all started a long time ago, back in the 50s, to be precise.”
“She looked up, and tried everything she could to come up with the proper answer. but nothing came to mind.”
Lindas husband, Michael. He doesn’t appear much in the story, but still appears in potently of scenes in the start!
“Morning dear. Did you sleep well? I hope so! I’m heading off to work now.”
surprisingly, Timmy is the only young boy who wasn’t affected by the apocalypse! He’s by his mother’s side throughout the whole apocalypse. he’s a very sweet teen and always wants to make his mom and dad proud.
“I’ll do my very best, mum. It all feels like if I was chosen for this situation! So I will make you and dad proud!”
“I’m scared, mother. I shouldn’t be scared! I’m a brave boy, a brave man!”
