Non-Human | English Fandub

Project Overview

In the present day, humans and technology have overtaken the world. How do our legendary monster spirits live on?

Non-Human (Fei Ren Zai 非人哉) showcases the daily life of mythological creatures adapting to modern society. While most of the cast features prominent figures from Chinese mythology, their present-day counterparts are simply trying to coexist with humans and live their best life.

This show does not have an English dub yet, so let’s make one together!

Project Details:

  • This is a long term project and will last for at least half a year or longer depending on reception

  • Communication will be based through a Discord server

  • Episodes will be released on a weekly basis on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok

  • Line submissions occur every two weeks (maximum 10 minutes of line in total)

Audition Guidelines:

  • Please add your Discord handle to your audition

  • Audio quality is a MUST. Good microphone with minimal background noise. Raw audition files are preferred

  • Feel free to add your own creative spin on your audition! I am not looking for an imitation of the original dub

  • PLEASE make sure to reference the videos for each role! They provide important context for each line

  • There are quite a few Chinese names that can be difficult to pronounce. For the audition, try your best but do not worry about pronunciation!

Character Types:

  • Major Characters have lines in the vast majority of episodes and will not have many extra lines

  • Supporting Characters show up somewhat frequently and may receive extra lines

  • Minor Characters show up in only a couple episodes and will receive the majority of extra lines

(To try and have each VA have a lot of opportunity to showcase themselves, some actors may be cast for multiple characters and for extras. If you are auditioning for these roles, try your best to add slight variety for each character in your read!)

Main Character | Female Young Adult | Mid Range


The main heroine of the story, Jiu Yue is a friendly and outgoing white nine-tailed fox spirit who is more than 200 years old. Adapting to modern society, Jiu Yue faces her toughest challenge yet: Going outside and getting a job. Jiu Yue was initially afraid of sticking out due to her mythical nature, but she quickly found out that her coworkers were just as fantastical as she was! Although she appreciates her coworkers and can be adventurous at times, she would much rather spend the day at home, curled up and watching anime.

Main Character | Female Young Adult | Mid-High Range


Xiao Yu is the first Jade Rabbit of Chang’e (prominent figure in Chinese mythology) and the general manager for over 80 million rabbits on the moon. On Earth, she is Jiu Yue’s coworker and close friend. While she may come across as a gentle and kind person, she can quickly go berserk if made angry. Outside of her moments of rage, she tries her best to help her friends when possible. Just don’t mention mooncakes around her!

Ao Lie is the third prince of the Dragon King of the West Sea. He graduated top of his class from Longgong University and was the mount of a famous monk, a memory that he loves to reminisce about. One of his proudest attributes is his deep throat that leads directly to the sea, giving him an infinite source of seawater and seafood. Ao Lie tries to mean well to his coworkers and is a source of positivity, but his EQ is close to zero and has essentially zero skills with love.

Xiao Tian is Yang Jian’s Sky-Roaring Dog, a title completely opposite to his immature nature. He is absolutely loyal to his master Yang Jian. Xiao Tian loves transforming into his dog form to catch frisbees and receive pets from humans unaware of his human form. A constant ball of energy, Xiao Tian is a lovable fool who always gets himself into trouble. He attended the same middle school as Jiu Yue, Xiao Yu, and Ao Lie, and now works at the same company as them.

Guan Yin is the mythical Bodhisattva and the manager for our cast of employees. With a serious nature and commanding tone, he is not heartless but is not afraid to use his Jade Bottle to deal with anyone who disobeys. Modernizing to current society, he has changed his Jade Bottle into a Starbucks cup and willow branches into straws. He is the current guardian of Nezha and an owner to many exotic animals.

Yang Jian is Xiao Tian’s master from Northeast China. While Jiu Yue initially thought he would be a handsome young adult, he actually turned out to be an older-but-still-handsome adult. His most prominent feature is his third eye, which can be used for a multitude of purposes, including projection, colored lights, or even being an X-ray. Yang Jian loves fluffy animals and owns an animal cafe in town. He is aloof but generally kind to others except for Da Shi, as they have beef with one another.

Supporting Character | Male Adult | Mid-Low Range


Xing Tian is an ancient god of war. While he held battle axes in the past, he is now a working man and acts caring and sweet towards his employees. He is insecure about his outward appearance, as he does not have a head, and will often try to find sources for a head, like a mannequin head. During the winter, he also gets cold easily and likes to find sources of heat to place on his head.

Jing Wei is the youngest daughter of Emperor Yan, another famous figure from Chinese mythology. After her death, she turned into a bird and tried to fill the seas with stones. However, her human form somehow transformed into a worker obsessed with throwing stones into water, much to Ao Lie’s dismay. When not throwing stones, Jing Wei is a bit shy and socially awkward, but means the best for her friends.

Mi Le is the big boss of the company everybody works at. His most prominent feature is his seemingly inflatable body and huge size, but he actually loves fitness. He is a kind soul and is always seen supporting his employees.


The Narrator “appears” throughout the show as a voice to give context to watchers about certain characters or mythological events.
