Initially positioned as an antagonist in NightOwl, Sarah operates with secretive motives and repeatedly comes into conflict with Thomas King. Her medical knowledge allows her to identify his emotional weaknesses, recognize patterns in his behavior, and understand the trauma concealed beneath the NightOwl identity.

To Thomas, Sarah initially appears to be another calculating member of Halstead’s operation. She seems willing to manipulate patients, conceal information, and use psychological pressure to achieve her goals. However, as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Sarah is not driven by the same beliefs as Halstead.

Years earlier, Sarah’s parents were murdered by Chris Logan. Their deaths destroyed the future she once imagined and left her consumed by grief, anger, and an obsessive desire for revenge. Her decision to study psychiatry was partly motivated by a need to understand violent people like Logan—how they think, why they hurt others, and whether monsters are created or simply born.

Despite her professional understanding of trauma and unhealthy obsession, Sarah remains unable to properly confront her own. She can diagnose destructive behavior in others while rationalizing the same behavior within herself.

Sarah uses her position beside Dr. Halstead to gain access to confidential records, criminal evaluations, psychological profiles, and information that may lead her to Chris Logan. He presents himself as calm, compassionate, and intellectually curious—a patient doctor who claims to want nothing more than to understand the human mind.

Behind that professional exterior is a cold and deeply disturbed psychological monster.

Halstead secretly conducts illegal experiments involving behavioral modification, mind control, memory manipulation, sensory deprivation, fear amplification, aggression testing, and implanted trauma. He believes that free will is largely an illusion and that every person can be controlled by identifying the correct fear, memory, or emotional pressure point.

He does not view NightOwl—Thomas King—as a conventional enemy. Halstead considers him the perfect experiment: a traumatized man who transformed his fear and grief into the identity of a nocturnal vigilante. He becomes obsessed with breaking Thomas psychologically, studying how long his heroic identity can survive before the frightened man underneath finally collapses.

Halstead rarely becomes visibly angry. He remains eerily composed even when threatened, speaking to his enemies as though they are patients sitting across from him during a therapy session. His cruelty appears through clinical observations, quiet manipulation, and the disturbing satisfaction he receives from proving his theories correct.

Elegant, confident, compassionate, and quietly formidable, Victoria was once the heart of the King family. She carried herself with the grace expected of someone from a wealthy and influential household, but she never believed that wealth made her superior to anyone else. To Victoria, the King name represented responsibility, community, and the obligation to build a better future for Nocturne City.

She was deeply loving toward Thomas and encouraged his imagination, curiosity, and desire to help others. As a child, Thomas was fascinated by owls, often observing them from the mansion grounds and asking endless questions about them. Victoria affectionately called him “my little owl,” a nickname that would later gain painful significance when Thomas created the identity of NightOwl.

Although warm and approachable, Victoria was never weak. She possessed a commanding presence and could take control of a room without raising her voice. She understood the corruption hidden beneath Nocturne City’s wealth and prestige and was willing to confront powerful people when innocent lives were threatened.

Her kindness made people trust her. Her intelligence made corrupt individuals fear her.

Victoria was eventually murdered, leaving Thomas without the person who had been his greatest source of guidance and emotional security. Her death became one of the defining tragedies of his life and a major influence behind his transformation into NightOwl. Years later, Thomas continues to hear her lessons in his mind, although his grief sometimes causes him to misunderstand what she would have wanted for him.
