Night in the Woods - Theatrical Dub
Project Overview
Night in the Woods is a 2D-exploration/discovery game that focuses predominantly on storytelling and characterization. It follows Mae, a twenty-something college dropout, who comes back home after being gone for several years. Mae struggles to bury her shallow depression and aimlessness by staying busy, but these ill feelings continue to pursue her- as if supernaturally. Even if you take no interest in this project, I'd highly recommend the source material. It's witty, relatable, and uniquely constructed to suit its means. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

February fast approaches! With it comes the final verdict for each role of the Casting Call! I've received some /amazing/ auditions for this project so far and I'm excited to see what next month will bring! Just a quick note, I will not be casting every role on the 18th. Mae and Gregg's role will be cast off on the 4th. Bea, Angus. and Candy will be cast off on the 11th (The following Sunday!). Assuming there's interest in these roles, Molly and Stan's roles will be cast on the 18th. Any re-arranging or extraneous casting will (hopefully) wrap up before the end of the Casting Call. Also, a reminder! Please let me know if you're willing to be double-cast in this project. We have aprox. 7-8 characters that need a voice that this Casting Call doesn't even account for.
Mae is the protagonist of Night in the Woods. She's a twenty-something college dropout who's trying to connect with the town she left behind. She also may or may not have psychic powers. We aren't quite sure.
Well, I guess I'm gonna hike through these woods. Through the woods is home, my bed, and my negligent parents.
Obviously the world is seriously screwed up, but we're all gonna die if we don't keep living.
I will unlock your ass!!!
Bea was Mae's childhood friend,up to a point in the seventh grade when they refused to interact with one another. Bea carries a sense of indifference throughout the campaign, only warming up to Mae occasionally.
My entire life feels like running after something that keeps moving away into the distance while I stay in the same place.
Ugh. Am I going to have to start worrying about getting dismembered on my way home?
Gregg is an intimate friend of Mae's. He's described as having "really up up days and really down down days". Gregg's temperament is integral to his character, so being able to illustrate in these reads is pivotal!
I am lord of the Snack Falcons!!!
I want to be the one that got away. (A beat) And I want Angus to come with me. I, like, failed those sheep just like everything has failed us.
Angus is in an intimate relationship with Gregg, with whom he shares an apartment. Angus is rarely seen apart from Gregg. Most of his scenes place the two of them in close proximity. It's important to note that Angus speaks in a starkly stoic manner, often defaulting to rationality over intuition.
We'll find patterns and we like really put our hearts and minds into it and even if we don't mean to. So I believe in a universe that doesn't care and people who do.
God never did. But a few years later, Gregg did. So like, the stars can stay up there and not give a shit about us, but this whale is pretty cool.
Mae's mother carries her daughter's temperament. Many of her lines carry a sardonic tone.
Well, sweetie, I think you can understand my worry. That's usually not something a college sophomore up and does.
Think hard-working, respectable, and kind-- if not a tad cynical from time to time.
What are you doing- (A beat) Oooh. Mae, honey, we thought you were coming home tomorrow night.
Aunt Molly works at the local police department. She seems to have the town's best interest at heart, though she rarely gets along with our main cast.
You want to spend your first night back in jail, Mae?
