Project Overview
AT THE END OF EVERYTHING • HOLD ONTO ANYTHING
College dropout Mae Borowski returns home to the crumbling former mining town of Possum Springs seeking to resume her aimless former life and reconnect with the friends she left behind. But things aren't the same. Home seems different now and her friends have grown and changed. Leaves are falling and the wind is growing colder. Strange things are happening as the light fades.
And there's something in the woods.

Mae Borowski has a troubled past, primarily with depression and anger issues. Her emotional turmoil is later revealed to be a byproduct of dissociation. She's snarky and, at first, short with those around her, even referring to herself as "a jerk." As the game progresses, she becomes slightly more compassionate, sometimes comforting others who question their personal worth.
Possibly due to her depression, Mae is rather nostalgic and often reminisces about Possum Springs as it was when she left for college. She often reflects on how much has changed since she's been away.
After being prescribed to do so by Dr. Hank, Mae keeps a journal.
Mae has been confirmed to be pansexual.
"Obviously the world is seriously screwed up, but we're all gonna die if we don't keep living."

Gregg is talkative, exuberant, and rebellious. He is a very punk-like character. But despite his loud and optimistic demeanor, Gregg has a fear that he may accidentally ruin his relationship with Angus.. He is also known to be very excitable, frequently expressing said excitement by shouting or flapping his arms rapidly. However, he has also been seen to have poor impulse control.
Though he's a troublemaker, he cares about his friends and is willing to help them out when they need it. He frequently asks how they're doing, and isn't afraid to express the fact that he cares about them. He has serious moments as well, and has messaged Mae on occasion telling her that he's having a rough day.

Bea has a very gloomy and cool attitude, due to both having gone through numerous unfortunate events in less than two years time. She has no patience for jokes or facetiousness and reacts to these with sarcasm or anger depending on her mood.
In contrast to Mae, Bea is a person quite grounded in reality. Her hardships seem to have made her cynical, her fears are of relatively mundane and practical matters, rather than anything irrational or paranormal.
Despite her dour outlook on life, Bea possesses a strong sense of responsibility and duty. She also forced Mae to return stolen merchandise after initially being goaded into committing "crimes" with her and often feels guilty whenever involved in any potential criminal activity.

Lori is a somewhat socially awkward and morbid youth with a passion for horror movies, especially in the realms of filmmaking. Rather than attend Harfest, Lori will instead choose to watch horror films by herself. Her interest into the macabre sometimes even stretches into personal fascination, as Lori often has weird thoughts about murder or may seek out morbid videos.
She also has low self-esteem, believing herself to be "objectively gross," though Mae finds her to look normal. When nervous, Lori may sometimes hyper-ventilate.
"I have weird thoughts. Like sometimes I want to go sleep in the woods or in the basement of an abandoned house during the day and only come out at night and be, like, a monster and, like, beautiful."
