He is a very friendly, caring, and kind person that's willing to listen to other people and give advice, though his advice can be rather blunt. He is usually easy going, rarely losing his temper and going with the flow of things. He also enjoys having a good time and knows when to let loose. Uno loves women, having escaped prison several times whenever he had a date occurring and often asks Hajime if he has any cute girls waiting for him at the visitor center. Through his past experiences with women, he seems to have a decent understanding of them, as shown through his advice to Jyugo about what girls look for in a guy. 

Rather childlike, he tends to complain when he doesn't get what he wants and can be irresponsible, at one point when on the run with Rock, he spent most of their money on an anime figurine. In addition, he states he doesn't know how to get a job or earn money. He prefers playing around with his friends and watching anime above all else. Later on, Nico appears to have an alternate personality when Nico's medicine wears off. Nico becomes crazed, and out of control. Nico then addresses himself as 'Nico' rather than 'I' or 'me'. In this persona, Nico has no limits to his strength and speed, causing great harm to his body. Nico is also attracted to the smell of medicine, charging at people for medicine to save his life as he views the medicine as his lifeline.

Despite being considered simple minded, it is shown he has reasonable observation skills and shows some common sense when not thinking about fights and food, at one point noticing Jyugo's skills with puzzles and wondering why he can't put it to better use. He is also shown to be capable of following orders when he desires, despite normally not liking authority, as he was the only one of his inmates to be able to build a competent drawer unlike Uno, Jyugo, and Nico, who got distracted and made their own wooden sculptures or contraptions out of the drawers. He is rather loud and impulsive but when given food he calms down. His love of food is stronger than his love of fights, as Hajime is usually able to calm Rock down by giving him a menu for the prison lunch, causing Rock to sit quietly staring at it and drooling. In addition, he compliments the assistant Chef Shiro's food quite often. He is also shown to have a fondness for women (though to a far lesser extent than Uno who is more perverted and has more experience), staring and blushing when he sees a beautiful woman but doesn't actively flirt with them.

He claims his only skill and hobby is breaking out of prisons, though he's shown to be more intelligent than Uno, managing to solve a number of difficult puzzles in seconds, taking Uno a few minutes while it would take a normal person a few hours. While he often tries several breakouts by himself, he is far more motivated to break out when all of his friends participate. If his friends are distracted or don't feel like escaping, Jyugo loses his motivation by 40% and is so easy to capture that even Seitarou Tanabata can capture him. Uno, his best friend, states he would not be popular with ladies because he has a lousy personality, looks like he would be bad with money, and can't get a job. In addition, Uno states he is a stick in the mud, has the worst handwriting, not good at math, can't play sports, is clueless when it comes to recreational activities, can't do anything but break out of prison, but understands his friends and people better than anyone

When stressed he tends to get angry easily and also get stomach pains, most of which come from dealing with the Cell 13 inmates. Despite taking his job seriously, he does hide some things from the Warden, such as the fact he has a pet cat, and the fact that the Cell 13 inmates frequently escape. Hajime is a very short tempered man, often yelling at people who annoy him. However, when addressing his superiors, he displays a calm professional attitude. Though he does show a little leniency towards the Cell 13 inmates, he can be quite brutal to them when they go too far and admits he only sees them as 'shitty little brats' he needs to keep his eyes on. He's also a very suspicious person and holds Jyugo as someone he needs to keep a careful eye on.

Honey was first seen as really calm, collected, and cocky. However, when angered, his personality switches to a more hot-headed and vulgar one, he also will start to point his middle finger at the people who angered him. Honey also has a rather perverted side to him, as he asks Kaguya about the color and the lace percentage of her lower undergarments. Ironically, he finds Trois's habit of asking Kaguya about the shape and color of her upper undergarments perverted. Honey dislikes people who are acting impassive or playing the victim, shown when Honey became angry at Jyugo. Honey is also good at reading people and finding out their personalities, however, he is unable to do so when it comes to Jyugo. Honey can be selfish at times, refusing to use his bullets that was filled with wires to save Jyugo and Uno, due to people finding out the trick the moment he uses it. Honey is also good at planning as he was able to capture Ruka, Youriki and Kokoriki with his wires. Honey also dislikes being uncool and unattractive.

Trois is cool-headed and doesn't get angry easily. However, he has a rather perverted side to him as he is always curious to know the color or shape of women's undergarments. Ironically, he finds Honey's habit of asking Kaguya about the lace percentage and color of her lower undergarments more perverted than asking about the shape and color of her upper undergarments. Trois is also fascinated with machines, often dismantling them the moment they caught his interest. Apparently, Trois made things like flame throwers and a bazookas to surprise people and to escape from jail.

He is a loud and friendly person, often seen laughing heartily. He seems to be the most friendly of the guards, treating the inmates kindly and acting very friendly with them and is shown to not be scared or think ill of them in the slightest. He is pretty carefree, seen usually with a big smile on his face, and is rarely shown angry or sad.

Despite his love of training, he is shown to prefer peaceful methods and is smarter than he seems. He is a hardcore Japanese person and indulges in Japanese culture. Yamato is very skilled in calligraphy having a Masters teaching license in calligraphy. He's a very loud extrovert and tends to do what he wants, at one point riding a horse into Cell 13's prison cell and destroying the wall. He has shown to care for the inmates, at one point saving Rock and Uno after Jyugo goes on a rampage. He tends to go with the flow of things and can be easily influenced, though he claims to always be serious. Out of all the inmates, he is arguably closest to Rock since the two are both stupidly strong, loud, and outgoing.

He is a crybaby and it makes one wonder why he became a guard in the first place. He tends to be the victim of bullying by the inmates and whenever a stressful situation occurs, he breaks down and panics. He looks up to Hajime as an older brother/mentor figure, who tells him he needs to step up and become more confident because if he manages to survive in Nanba prison, he can survive anywhere. Part of the reason he is bullied is because he is a crybaby whose authority they don't respect and because he is a pretty boy. However, when they don't bully him they usually have him act as a servant, getting him to deliver them stuff they want so they won't be motivated to leave their cell. Seitarou himself doesn't realize this, but is happy when they don't bully/tease him and stay in their cell, stating he is developing a better relationship with them. This implies that despite his fear he does try to act nicely with them. Despite this, he is a hard worker and does his best at his job. When not crying he is a polite, calm person who does his duties. He is fairly formal and despite being afraid of the inmates, does try to act kindly to them. He is a shy and reserved person who is rather soft-spoken, becoming nervous even around the other guards. He is also very modest. He has an extremely good memory and also seems to be intelligent and patient, often explaining to the Cell 13 inmates the events happening at the prison.
