My Teacher Is a Witch | Animated Series
Project Overview
My Teacher Is a Witch is an original animated dark-comedy/fantasy series currently in development. The project follows Elma, a university professor whose growing obsession with witchcraft starts becoming very real, pulling her students and the people around her into increasingly strange, supernatural situations. The series is intended to balance comedy, character-driven dialogue, supernatural elements, and a slightly darker edge while still feeling energetic and stylized.
For this casting call, I am currently looking for Elma, a Podcast Guy, and a music producer/composer.
I made some storyboards for the first scene to help visualize it!
Elma is the main character of the series and by far the most important long-term role being cast here. If the pilot performs well and the series continues, I would like to continue working with the VA chosen for Elma on future episodes and related projects. Future episodes will naturally contain significantly more dialogue than the pilot material, so compensation would increase accordingly as the scope of the role grows. I am specifically hoping to find someone interested in developing the character over time rather than treating this as a single isolated performance.
The Podcast Guy is a much smaller role and will most likely not be a recurring character. However, if I enjoy working with the selected actor, I would absolutely be interested in keeping them in mind for other characters, background roles, or future paid voice work as the series expands.
I am also looking for a music producer/composer who can help establish the musical identity of the series. Ideally, I would love to create a recognizable main title/theme, but I am also open to working with someone who can create a strong original score or recurring musical motifs that can be used throughout the project. The general direction is mysterious, mischievous, melancholic, and witchy rather than generic horror music.
IMPORTANT — NO AI POLICY:
No generative AI is being used to create the performances for this project. Your audition, recordings, voice, likeness, and submitted material will NOT be used to train an AI model, create an AI voice clone, generate synthetic dialogue, or build any kind of voice-replication system whatsoever. I am hiring human performers because I want human performances. Your recordings will only be used for the project and for purposes we explicitly agree upon. I will not upload your voice to an AI training service, voice-cloning service, text-to-speech system, or similar technology.
The goal with the pilot is to prove that the concept and characters work as a larger animated series. If it succeeds, I want to build an ongoing group of actors and collaborators who can return for larger, better-paid projects as production expands.
Voice Actor
Professor Elma is the lead character of My Teacher Is a Witch. She is a university professor with a dry, sarcastic sense of humor who tends to hide genuine curiosity and vulnerability behind skepticism and bluntness. She can be authoritative, playful, mildly abrasive, and unexpectedly soft depending on the situation. Her comedy should feel natural and grounded rather than exaggerated or overly “anime.”
Performance Direction
Please treat this as an acting performance, not simply a script read. I’m specifically looking for someone who will bring their own nuance to Elma’s dialogue — small chuckles, pauses, changes in pacing, restrained reactions, breath, hesitation, irritation, amusement, or subtle vocal shifts wherever they feel natural.
Above all, please avoid a flat or monotone delivery. I would much rather hear an audition that takes bigger acting swings and occasionally goes a little too far than one that simply reads the dialogue exactly as written. Have fun with her and give the lines personality.

Voice Actor
The Podcast Guy is a small featured role heard playing from a dating/self-improvement style podcast in the background of the pilot. He is confident, charismatic, slightly preachy, and extremely comfortable hearing himself talk. He genuinely believes he is giving men valuable life advice, which is where a lot of the comedy comes from.
The performance should feel natural and conversational rather than like a cartoon parody. I’m looking for someone with strong comedic timing who can make the character sound entertaining, self-assured, and a little ridiculous without forcing the joke.
Voice direction: A Southern or Southern-influenced American accent would fit the character very well. A slightly church-preacher / motivational-speaker cadence is also encouraged — rhythmic, expressive, charismatic, and able to sound completely convinced by what he is saying. Black actors are especially encouraged to audition, but casting is open to anyone who can naturally capture the intended delivery.
The script includes lines like “Brothers, listen to me,” “Can I get an amen?”, hype-horn moments, and a more pastoral delivery later in the scene, so I’m looking for someone who can really sell that larger-than-life podcast personality while still sounding believable.
This is most likely a one-off role for the pilot, but if I enjoy working with the selected actor, I would absolutely be interested in keeping them in mind for future characters, background voices, or other paid roles in the series.

I’m looking for a composer / music producer to help establish the musical identity of My Teacher Is a Witch.
Ideally, I would love to commission a recognizable main theme or title theme for the series, but I’m also open to something that functions more as a reusable recurring theme or musical motif that can be used throughout episodes and promotional material.
The overall tone I’m looking for is mysterious, mischievous, slightly melancholic, and witchy, without becoming generic horror music. I especially like the use of chimes, bells, light percussion, piano, and unusual small instrumental textures that can make something feel playful and unsettling at the same time.
Reference tracks:
I like the eerie, melancholic atmosphere and delicate chime/piano textures of Dexter’s “Blood Theme,” while I also enjoy the unusual instrumentation and mischievous energy of the Dexter Main Title. I’m not looking for an imitation of either track — these are just references for the kind of musical personality and texture I’m drawn to. If you think a different direction would fit the series better, I’d love to hear your approach.
For auditions/applications, I do not expect anyone to compose a custom sample for free. Instead, please link a few examples from your existing portfolio that you think are relevant, and if possible, include a short note describing the direction you would take for My Teacher Is a Witch if hired.

Voice Actor
Student 2 is a university student in Elma’s class. This is a very small role with only two spoken lines, but I’m completely open on the character’s background, nationality, and accent.
UCLA has students from all over the world, so feel free to make this character international if that suits your voice. American, Asian, European, South American, African, Australian, etc. are all welcome.
For the audition, simply read the two lines provided. If you’re comfortable performing multiple accents or dialects, feel free to submit several takes so I can hear different interpretations.
You may also make small, natural adjustments to the wording if needed to better fit the character’s speech pattern or background, as long as the meaning of the line stays the same.
The overall performance style for My Teacher Is a Witch is grounded and conversational, so please make the student sound like a real person casually participating in a classroom discussion rather than giving an exaggerated anime-style performance.
PS: Since this is such a small role, I may also keep strong auditions in mind for other students/background characters in future episodes. So if you're available in the future for more gigs that's a bonus.
