My Little Pony (MLP) Fanfic Reading "Killing all the Right Ponies" by ObabScribbler
Project Overview
Be warned: this is a sadfic and there could be triggers for folks regarding the loss of a loved one.
This casting call is for voice acting roles in a My Little Pony based fan fiction reading of the story titled, “Killing all the Right Ponies”, by Obabscribbler (See the fanfic at: here ), which will appear on my YouTube Channel, once it is complete. Roles are unpaid (this is for fun) and the format will be similar to the fanfic reading I have already on my channel.
Some of the cast is already set, however; there are several roles I'm looking to fill. I care mostly about a convincing emotional performance. Beyond that, I encourage you to read the guidelines below.
For cannon characters I encourage you to do a little YouTube research and do your best to 'sound like' the canon version of the character. The ideal audition will not only be 'show accurate' but also provide a fantastic performance. If I'm faced with two auditions and I have to pick between one where the character sounds more 'show accurate' but the other has a better performance- I'll likely choose the better performance (assuming recording quality is equal between the two).
I won't be answering a ton of questions; part of this audition is to see who can be professional and work with the information provided. I strongly recommend you read the story to give you any additional insight into a character's mental space to elevate your performance.
Being on Discord is also encouraged as that's the platform I'll be using to organize all volunteers.
Also, please, while I encourage new talent to try out- I'm not here to be your tech person. If you don't know how to save files as MP3s or how to attach them to or link them in an email, ask someone else or teach yourself how to do those tasks.
Deadline for VA Audition: Midnight MST Saturday October 18th (technically that's 12am on Sunday October 19th).
Following the guidelines is part of the audition. Showing you have the ability to follow the instructions below also shows me that you can take direction.
Guidelines for VAs:
Have a decent microphone and minimal background noise. Poor audio quality may disqualify even an outstanding performance.
Leave between 3-5 seconds of silence at the beginning of your recording- I want to hear the ’silence’ (background noise).
DO NOT DO ANY equalization/noise reduction. You can cut/paste/delete, but nothing else. I want the audio without processing. I don’t care if you’re a sound engineering wizard- just leave it alone.
You can give me a maximum of two takes. Multiple takes of the same line must be immediately after each other. Please put what you think is your best take first (if you choose to do two takes).
No group auditions. Only one person auditioning per submission please.
Don’t send multiple submissions, please only send one. Multiple submissions will be discarded.
If you’re under the age of 18, please have parental consent.
Any gender may audition for any part, though all parts are 'gendered' and selection will be based on the ability to exude the character as written.
You may audition for multiple roles.
If you don't want to post your audition here, at Casting Call Club, please email the files to me using the following guidelines (email address in #11). I want files as MONO MP3s please. Format the filename as such:

Successful auditions will be notified by email no later than Midnight MST October 22nd.

He comes from a 'well-to-do' family. He appreciates the finer things in life, but he has a heart of gold. I imagine him sounding a bit like David from Schitt's Creek. Another way of thinking of him is as a male version of Rarity. He has an obviously male voice and his speech should have a tone/accent/cadence that is a bit posh, making for a great foil to Braeburn's 'country' twang.
Crescent is an original character (OC) who, in this production, is Braeburn's romantic partner. He's a bit cheeky and sarcastic, he is also very self-aware of who he is and how he comes off. I STRONGLY encourage people auditioning to read the story to get the best understanding of the following context of these lines and to best understand the character.

[Crescent has been found laying next to the toilet, having little energy/weak/in dispair and obviously had been retching]“But you shouldn’t have to. Not again.” [ a wet and gloopy Cough]“I hate this. You’re my boyfriend, not my carer. I’m an adult. I shouldn’t be so … so … helpless.”
[Crescent is dying and scared. The end of this sentence is cut off because his boyfriend kisses him] “Promise you won’t leave my side. I couldn’t … I couldn’t face the end without you there with me. Please. Oh Celestia, I’m … I’m so scared. I don’t want to die. I don’t want to – mrrf!”

Applejack from "My Little Pony" Friendship is Magic. Highly recommend you read the story to understand the context for the lines. Note that this role will also include one flashback scene where Applejack is much younger. Looking for show accurate, though performance is more important. So if it's not *quite* show accurate, but you nail the performance- I'd pick that 10 times out of 10 over a perfect show accurate voice that can't quite nail the delivery.

[concerned]"Don’t say that. You’re Pinkie Pie. You’re not supposed to say stuff like that.”
[irritated] "I get that I shouldn’t be angry with Twilight but … I’m still mad.”

[consoling] "It’s not your fault." [pause] "You’re not to blame.”
[weary] "It’s been a rough day, Dashie. I’m not feeling much like myself right now.”
