Project Overview
INTRODUCTION
Hello there! Welcome to the Casting Call page for "Minecraft the Fanimated Series" (From here on out the title will be abbreviated as "MCTFS").
MCTFS is a fanmade episodic series of shorts based on the bestselling videogame of all time: Minecraft!
MCTFS is based on a simple premise: What if we were to take the different player archetypes from the Minecraft community, crank their traits up to eleven, and then throw them into the world of Minecraft? What would happen? Who would help who? Who would hurt who? How would their dynamics and relationships change and grow over the course of a story?
This casting call is for season one, and if the series is received well, we'd like to do a second season also, and perhaps even a third, depending on where the story goes. Season one is comprised of five episodes.
STORY OVERVIEW
For the sake of avoiding spoilers, this synopsis will be brief. Please know that there is more planned past what is written here, but won't be told unless you specifically ask for more details. Understand that we may say no to this request depending on what role you're applying for.
MCTFS follows the story of Steve, an independent porter for the Builder Community. Steve once lived happily as a porter for the Builders. Steve enjoyed putting his survival and navigation skills to use as he traveled the Overworld to deliver rare and valuable items to his clients. But one day Steve's status quo was disrupted when a faction of raiders called the Griefers attacked the Builders.
Due to their peaceful nature, the Builders were helpless against the well-armed Griefers, and the community that Steve had come to love was crippled.
Wrecked with grief and anger, Steve vowed vengeance on the builders, but soon found he bit off more than he could chew when he tracked the Griefers to their encampment in the Nether...
DEADLINES AND AUDITIONS
The deadline for auditions is December 30th, 2024. This is for two main reasons:
One: To give everyone who wants to audition time to do so.
Two: To give time for the rest of season one to finish being written. As of the time of this descriptions writing (September 14th), all of the outlines for all five episodes of season one have been finished, and the scripts for episode one and two are finished.
HOW WE COMMUNICATE
We prefer to communicate through Discord. So if you're unfamiliar with the app, or don't want to use it for whatever reason, we ask that you reconsider using it. If you're absolutely against it, you're still welcome to audition, but please understand that Discord is very convenient to communicate with, and if you can't use it, that may be taken into account when considering you for a role, especially if it's a lead role.
HOW YOU'LL BE CREDITED
There are two main methods that we plan to use to credit you alongside other individuals working on this project:
In-episode credits. In each episode, either at the beginning or the end, depending on the pacing, the credits will be listed with your name of choice. It can be your real name, your username, whatever you'd like! We just ask that the name you give for this be reasonably short for presentation sake (For example, "SmokestackVA" is preferable to "@SmokeOfStack on Twitter").
In description/bio credits. In the bio/description of each episode, we'll include an enhanced version of the credits that are more specific than the ones shown in-episode. This is where you're free to go with longer, more specific credits that'll help viewers find you and your socials (For example, credits like "@SmokeOfStack on Twitter" are allowed and encouraged for this section for the sake of making you easier to find to those who want to!).
Alongside these two methods, there is one other that MAY OR MAY NOT also be used. In the past, we've used a website as a hub for all info regarding our projects, including credits. However maintaining a website and paying for a domain can be expensive, especially for small passion projects like these that are working on a shoestring budget. So while we'll try to get a website up and running that we can credit you on, don't count on this one happening. (And even if it does happen, know that the website may one day go offline for one reason or another!)
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU
Have fun with it! This is an unpaid passion project with a budget of... checks notes ....$0.00 USD! We're doing this because we love Minecraft and wanna make something cool, and have fun learning and doing it! So try to bring a positive attitude and just have fun with it!
Please submit clean recordings! While we can work with audio that has minor background noise, excessive background noises are hard to work with and often detract from the quality of the final project, making the project feel cheap. Not to mention sudden background noise every time a character speaks may take a viewer out of the experience.
Submit as many takes as you like for your lines! But we prefer a minimum of three takes for each line. You will be provided with a placeholder version of your lines performed by the director to help give you an idea of the tone and delivery we want.
We prefer you send your lines as one audio file to either our Discord server or our email address, both of which will be provided to you after casting. If a file is too large to submit via these methods, then we'll work out something else on a case-to-case basis.
We may ask for line re-dos, but we'll try to keep this to a minimum. Everyone has their own life, and we know it's annoying to have to do the same thing over and over again. And again, and again, and again, and agai-
Because we hope to make this a multi-season project, we'd love it if you could return again later down the line to reprise your role(s)! And we may even come to you again in the future for other projects we work on!

CHARACTER BIO:
Steve is the main protagonist of MCTFS. Steve was once a loner within his world, always feeling like a stranger in a strange land. That was before he met the Builders, a community of peaceful individuals focused on creativity and positivity. Steve was given a warm welcome by the builders, and soon found himself being a porter of sorts for the community. Any resource that was too dangerous, tedious, or niche to acquire by normal means, was Steve's responsibility to retrieve. Steve was quickly accepted due to his helpful nature, and found his place within the world.
That was before the Griefer clan attacked the Builders. For whatever reason, the Griefers launched a series of attacks on the Builders. Due to their pacifistic nature, the Builders were easily defeated by the Griefers. The Builder Community was crippled by the Griefer's attacks, and Steve saw the community that he had come to love suffer. Enraged by these attacks, Steve decided to pursue the leader of the Griefers-The Red Creeper, also known as Reaper.
Inspired by individuals in the survival and bushcraft community, Steve is characterized by a go-getter attitude, a bold fearlessness and confidence, as well as a rugged and independent nature. Steve is a buckle-your-bootstraps type man, and he takes great pride in his ability to accomplish tasks without the help or direction of others. Steve knows what he's good at, and he enjoys being good at it.
Despite this seemingly gruff and perhaps even inapproachable exterior, Steve derives a great amount of joy from interacting with and helping others, and places great value on his relationships and the wellbeing of others. This love and appreciation for his fellow man is what leads to his outrage at the Griefer's attack, and thus serves as his motivation for the story.

As stated in the character bio, Steve is the main protagonist. That means that if you were to take this role, you'll have to be able to record lines for multiple episodes. We're aiming for each episode to be in the 5-10 minute range. For each line, you'll be provided with a placeholder version performed by the director for your reference as far as how tone and delivery should be for the line (If you feel that you have a better idea for the tone or delivery, you're always welcome to pitch your idea!).
Steve is a bit of a stoic, and while he's not exactly Kratos levels of quiet, he's not a motormouth. So your lines won't often be excessively long.
When writing this character, the general envisioned voice is one that feels grounded, thoughtful, and collected, with moments of lighthearted sarcasm. The delivery should command an amount of conviction and confidence, but not too authoritative or strong-armed.

CHARACTER BIO:
Dexterus (Also called 'Dex' for short.), is an eccentric redstone engineer and friend of Steve who was exhiled from the Corps of Redstone Engineers for being 'Too odd'. After leaving the Redstone corps, Dex wandered for a time before being taken in by the Builder Community. Dex is a strange and eccentric inventor, always coming up with flat out genius solutions, to the weirdest problems. And if he is solving a normal problem, he usually finds the most over the top and outlandish solutions.
Though initially hesitant of his usefulness in combat, Steve allowed Dex to join his crusade against the Griefers when Dex used his redstone know-how to deactivate ATEM, proving his value as a member of the unit.

Dex is an eccentric inventor type, think the Medic and Engineer from TF2 mixed into one good guy character.

Mortis is a half human, half wither skeleton hybrid. Mortis was once a member of the Griefer Clan, and was even the one who gave the Griefers access to the Nether via dimensional travel, an ancient art once thought lost when the Old Builders died out.Mortis however left the Griefer Clan when they took over the Nether, enslaving the wither skeletons and occupying their fortresses, something Mortis actively protested to no avail.After Steve tracked Reaper into the Nether, Reaper almost killed Steve, before Mortis intervened, saving Steve. After the fact, Mortis decided to join Steve on his crusade against the Griefers, still bitter and seeking justice for what they did to the wither skeletons.

The Red Creeper (Also called 'Reaper' for short.), is the leader of the Griefer Clan, and the main antagonist of MCTFS. Reaper is a heartless, self-centered megalomaniac, obsessed with asserting his dominance and superiority over others. Reaper cares for little more than the suffering of others, always seeking to ruin their lives in the most devastating way possible.
Reaper is a master tactician and combatant, he's rivaled by no one in terms of sheer skill and power. Being the head of one of the largest factions within the MCTFS world, Reaper has a nearly endless supply of equipment and support. But Reaper rarely calls upon the ladder for help.
Reaper personally oversaw and spearheaded the Griefer assault on the Builder Community, making him the primary target of Steve's crusade for revenge. However Reaper is not at all concerned by Steve's pursuit, viewing Steve as little more than 'a dog barking up a tree'. Only time will tell if this confidence is ill-placed.

Inspired by PAMA from Minecraft Story Mode, ATEM (Pronounced ATE-EM) is in layman's terms, a speedrunning robot. The creators of ATEM were inspired when they received the porter services of individuals such as Steve, but were disappointed by the long wait times in between order and delivery. ATEM is designed to be an emotionless, rational, and in a sense, lazy robot. ATEM will always seek the path of least resistance, no matter what. His one primary objective is to complete his assigned task as quickly as possible, no matter the cost. To ATEM, the ends justify the means, for better or worse.
ATEM is the right hand 'man' of Reaper due to his reliability and versatility. He can fight. He can work. He can flee. All without ever complaining, resting, or dissenting, making him the perfect servant.

This character is inspired by and is a homage to the guards from the Metal Gear Solid series, so you can use the guard's voice lines from those games for reference.
