The Grim's Apprentice S1 (Minecraft)
Project Overview
The Grim's Apprentice is a minecraft cinematic roleplay series, with a target audience of young teenagers. It is a romantic medieval fantasy series with 8 episodes in the first season, and a planned second and third season. The script for Season 1 has been completed and the rest will start after season one is finished. We are currently looking for voice actors and body actors. SERIES PLOT:
After being abandoned in a lagoon as a baby, Mera is raised by a group of sirens who teach her that humans are vile, destructive creatures. On her 18th birthday, she must return with a human head in order to fulfill the siren's ritual. As she leaves the only world she's ever known, she runs into Ronan, who claims that he was the Grim Reaper's apprentice, but he's accidentally fallen from the afterlife and needs her help getting back. She debates between going with him, exploring the human world, and helping him find his way home, or fulfilling the siren's ritual by killing him. But slowly, she finds herself falling in love with the man she promised she would kill.
DEADLINES:
The deadline for auditioning is August 4th, 2023. We will not accept auditions after that point, and we won't cast anyone before the deadline. But remember that auditioning early gives us more time to consider you. You need to be able to turn in your lines in a timespan of 1-1.5 weeks after an episode script is released.
EXPECTATIONS:
- The lines need to be in either .wav or .mp3 files
- Please do at least 2 takes per line, but no more than 4 unless it's a very short line.
- You need to be 15+ (nonnegotiable)
- We will edit the audio quality if it needs to be edited, but there can't be excessive background noise (barking, talking, traffic, etc)
- Only audition if you can continue your role in future seasons of the series, which will take longer to produce.
- I have a general idea of how I want the voices to sound, but please don't let that stop you from auditioning if you don't sound the exact same
- Have fun! We would prefer to work with people who have worked on minecraft series in the past, but it's okay if it's your first time :D
WHO ARE WE?
Admittedly, I've used "we" this entire description to look professional, but this is produced by me (Marmalade!). I've been a voice actor for about 3 years in minecraft content, but I'm also a Minecraft youtuber with 900 subscribers. A "body actor" is someone who does the movement of the characters in Minecraft. This is not a voice-acting role, but you will be credited in the document at the end as the name of your choice. The job of a body actor is to move the character and bob the head with the lines. This is on Minecraft Java 1.12.2, with around 20 mods. You must be able to handle the mods, but you won't need shaders or resourcepacks unless you want to help w filming.
The current plan is to record at 10 PM EST, so make sure you can be available during these times.

Mera is the protagonist. She is 18. She grew up underwater, raised by her Siren family. She was accepted as one of their own and only told stories about the ruthless humans on the aboveground. When she enters the human world, she is bewildered. She is a curious and naive person. She is quick to trust others if she deems them truthful. If someone asks her something, her answer is usually a question. She is always asking questions and she talks to herself, a lot.
Voice: While she is a young adult, I am looking for a higher pitched voice. Younger voices are acceptable as long as she doesn't sound like a child.

(yelling as she's running) "DID WE HAVE A PLAN? I'M STARTINGGG TO THINK YOU DIDNT PLAN THIS OUT!"
Ronan is a main character. He is 19. Ronan is a Grim's apprentice in the afterlife. He's accidentally fallen back into the Human Realm and needs help getting back. He's impatient, sarcastic, and blunt. He can be cold and distant, although it's on purpose. He is generally unwilling to help others unless they help him first. Out of all the cursing in this series, Ronan is the one who curses the most (but still not a lot)
Voice: I'm looking for a deeper voice, but not so deep that he sounds like a lumberjack. Although he's a young adult, I want his voice to be similiar to a teenager's. For the most part, when he's talking about feelings, his voice is monotone.

We're also looking for someone to play a Younger Ronan. We'll likely choose someone out of minor characters, but if you can do a voice (around 8) similar to Ronan's adult voice, then please include that in your audition with this line: "This has been the best day of my life!." :D

(sad, retelling) "I died when I was eighteen.. about a year ago in real time. There were these.. sirens.. in the water. They lured me in. (angry) I was so.. stupid."
(serious, annoyed) "Look, you can stop following us now. We're not going to do what you want."
Nio is a main character in the series, however, his first appearance is in Episode 3. He is 20. His second name is Arcturus. Nio was Ronan's mentor in the afterlife. He is an actual Grim. Nio is optimistic about everything. He is bright and usually happy. He's funny and goes with the flow of everything around him. He's extremely confident.
Voice: I'm looking for a higher-pitched male voice. I'm willing to look at any interpretation of that.
We're also looking for someone to play a Younger Nio. We'll likely choose someone out of minor characters, but if you can do a voice (around 13) similar to Nio's adult voice, then please include that in your audition with this line: "I'm never quite sure of what's going on, but I keep moving forward." :D

The Grim is the villain of the entire series. He rules over the afterlife. I'm not going to give away much about this character because of spoilers, but you will be given a larger description upon casting. He appears in a few flashbacks, but his major appearances are in later seasons. He is not a good person and he is very manipulative.
Voice: I'm looking for someone with a deep voice who can sound menacing/threatening. This character was written to be a man, but I'm open to feminine voices and I can change the script accordingly.

King Emerick is a villain, but not the main antagonist. He rules Ellerson Capital in a very strict manor. He is an immortal being and nobody is sure how. He's had tons of wives, and many many children over the years he has lived. He's estimated to be over a century old.
Voice: He has a deep voice. It can either be an adult or elder voice. Either is fine.

(sighs, mean) "Enjoy the last few hours of your life. I almost feel sorry that my idiot daughter roped you into this."
(speech) "From this day on, the trade between magical creatures and humans will cease. They will be completely banished from our villages."
Odeda is an important side character. She has a small role in Season 1, where she appears in a flashback. She has bigger roles in the later seasons, but not a lot of lines. Odeda is the bridge between the afterlife and the human realm. She is a neutral figure who does not interfere with either sides. She is who you meet after the Grim during death.
Voice: I'm looking for a neutral monotone voice. It can be any pitch. She has a soothing, calm, and elegant voice. I would prefer for her to have a bit of an eastern-european accent.

Polaris is one of the most important character. She is a Grim from the afterlife. She will likely appear in every season, only in flashback scenes. For spoiler reasons, I can't tell you in why. You'll be given a full description of personality and backstory after casting.
Voice: She has a soothing, upbeat voice. It doesn't matter if it's deep, medium, or high pitched. Her voice is gentle in memories, but serious in actual flashbacks.

(gentle, bittersweet) "I hope I meet you again, in a next life. I'll look forward to it."
(Serious) "He's up to something, I know he is! And I'm going to find out exactly what."
Damian is an important character, but he's more of a side character since he only appears in the last Episode of Season 1. He is a Grim. He is intelligent and fast-thinking. He is a childhood friend to one of the main characters and he holds a grudge against them. He will come up more in the next season.
Voice: I'm looking at any pitch of voice for his character.
We're also looking for someone to play a Younger Damian. If you can do a child's voice (around 10) that you feels like goes with his adult voice, then please include that at the end of your audition. You can use this line: "Don't worry, I'll teach you everything I know." Otherwise we will just pick someone out of minor characters. :D

Merope (Mare-ro-pee) is a minor character who appears in Episode 5 and will likely appear in another flashback. Merope is an older adult, around 50. Merope is a Grim from the afterlife who has spent the latest years of her life trapped in the Forest of Disorientation. Because of this, she's basically a drunk aunt from the 70s. She used to be a very wise person, but now she has no clue what's going on ever. Her memory is vague and fuzzy and she can't quite seem to remember her past.
Voice: I'm looking for a mature female voice that is chill and speaks like she's still a teenager. She slurs her words. Have fun with this role. She's absolutely insane and I want her voice to embody that. Something like this: Eda

(smug) "What do you want, kid? An autograph?" (talking to him as if he's a child, condescending) "Don't worry, with enough practice, I'm sure you'll grow up to be just like me!"
"I left home for a very important reason indeed. A very important reason that I.. do not remember, but important nonetheless."
Lisannia (Liz-Anya) is the Goddess of Light. She's a minor character in Season One, she only has a few lines. But she will reappear in Season 2. She is said to be wise and collected. She always has the best answer. But when they meet her, she seems to be erratic and hyper.
Voice: She's an adult, but I would prefer a very high pitched anime sounding voice.

(laughs, happy) "I'm so glad you contacted me! You're the first person I've spoken to in ages!"
Ishwar is Ronan's father. He is a minor character that appears in a few flashbacks in the first season. He is cold, but has a soft-spot for his son. He is caring, and he's a great cook. He works as a sailor on ships in a small coastal town.
Voice: Mature Masculine voice, but it can be deep to high pitched.

(serious, dark) "There is a darkness within the sea. Don't be lured in by their song, or you'll come to regret it."
(sighs, sad) "I know it's hard, Ronan. But this is for the better."
Margot is a minor character. She is Nio's mother. She works as a maid in King Emerick's castle. She doesn't want what's best for her son, she wants what is best for her. She is somewhat conniving and would do whatever it takes to succeed. Despite working in the castle, she is exceptionally rich. She associates with the upper class.
Voice: Her voice is classy, elegant, and mature.

(annoyed) "That thief's son? I don't see where the appeal is. He is dirty, disgusting, and foul. You should stay away from him as much as possible."
(proper, fake nice) "Oh Lady Henrietta! Can I say how lovely it is to see you again?"
(confused, a bit disgusted) "Are you.. kidnapping babies, now? That's not really what I was expecting of you."
There are a lot of extras and minor characters in this series who only appear for one episode. I can't honestly make a role for every single one of them. If you audition for this, you can voice multiple roles or an extra role if you get casted as a main character. You will be credited, even if you're just a various crowd voice. Every character is credited, but minor characters/extras will include one link of your choice, while various crowd voices will only include the name.

I highly recommend submitting a demo reel and I can handpick you for a role. If you don't have a demo reel, I added some lines similar to the ones in the series.

(Female, Deep, Conniving, ) "You're not human.. are you? I could tell when I first saw you."
(Female High Pitched, Scared) "Okay, fine! I'm a little bit scared of you! Just don't hurt me and I'll let you go!"
(Ditzy Mean Girl) "Mom, is she like, totally going to be banished from our village?"
(Male Farmer) "I will give you sanctuary here. Just make sure to steer clear of the guards."
(Mera's Mother, proud) "I found you as a baby and I gracefully took you into my care. You are my daughter and you always will be. (speech) It's time for my daughter to complete her ritual".
(Child, curious) "Are you sirenkin? Because you don't LOOK like a siren, but you act like one.."
(If you can do dramatic voices like someone hysterically crying, please add that)
