Mighty No. 9 Redub [Full Game Fandub]

Mighty No. 9 Redub [Full Game Fandub]

Project Overview

Mighty No. 9 is now available worldwide on practically every current game system imaginable... but to say the reception has been negative is an understatement. One such complaint about the game was the quality of the English dub, which was considered by many to be of a low quality.

I personally really enjoyed Mighty No. 9, so this topic about the voice acting got me thinking: "What if there was a way we could improve upon it?" So, I've taken to Casting Call to bring you all this opportunity to take part in this massive project! All the lines of dialogue in the game (includes all in-game interactions and cutscenes) will be redubbed with the help of an all new cast; that's where you guys come in! Here's a list of information you'll need to know if you decide to audition for this project:

1. Please (if possible) use a high quality mic, without any background noise, echo, etc.

2. Any auditions that apply voice alteration effects such as pitch modification or reverb will not be accepted.

3. When you are cast for a role, please send me your email address so we can stay in contact and you can receive updates on the project via email.

4. If you would like to record your lines while I help direct your performance, feel free to send me your Skype username in your initial email, along with a preferred time you'd like to record with me. (This is highly recommended to ensure the highest quality performances and an overall more professional product.)

5. If you are casted, make sure to stay committed to the project and submit your lines within 1-2 weeks (unless otherwise specified.)

6. For the auditions listed below, things in-between [square brackets] are how you should perform the line, while things in-between (round brackets) are for things such as grunts, screams and adlib you can provide.

I have decided to cast myself as Beck, seeing as I would like to be a part of this project with you guys. All cast members will be decided after the deadline is over, giving everyone the chance who is interested to submit an audition for characters they'd like to play. If you would like feedback from me on your audition, please let me know and I'll be happy to comment on it.

So, with all of that said, good luck and have fun auditioning!

NOTE: All the roles listed are (mostly) listed by appearance in the game.

Call

Vocal Type: Mid

The robot assistant of Dr. White and Dr. Sanda and provides recon for Beck when he's on a mission.

Unlike Beck or the other Mighty Numbers, Call doesn't have a personality, though still has inflections in her dialogue. Try to aim for a voice that sounds young, but one that makes her come off as very knowledgeable.

  • Mighty Number 2, Cryosphere, has been traced to this treatment plant, which subsequently ceased operations.

  • Beck, I'm reading multiple robot signatures ahead. Proceed with caution.

  • [Inquisitive] I often detect an aversion to combat in Beck's vocal patterns, while I have no such reluctance. Question: Why would Professor White include that hesitation in his design? It's... illogical.

Vocal Type: Mid/Low

A news anchor that helps provide exposition and introduces us to Mr. Graham.

Seeing as she's presenting the news, you'll need to sound like a newscaster. This means your voice shouldn't have any tones of bias or personal emotion toward the story being told.

  • Once again, the President has declared a country-wide state of emergency. This, based on reports of haywire robots rampaging out of control in all 52 states.

  • I'm being told we have a comment from Gregory Graham, CEO of Cherry Dynamics.

  • CherryDyn, of course, being the world's leading robot manufacturer. Let's go there now, live...

Nicknamed Dyna, Mighty Number 3 wields electricity by attaching metal nodes to the environment/target and shocks them with her electrical charge. Dyna's most defining trait is that she tends to replace the s's in her words with z's.

The voice you should aim for when auditioning for Dyna should sound playful, yet mildly threatening, which should be most apparent when anyone gets in the way of her and her electricity.

  • [Angry] Silenzzz! How am I supozzed to enjoy my meal with you screaming in my ear?!

  • [Confident] Hmmm? So... it'zzz you. You've come for my power... You want to take it from me?! Well, we'll just zzzee about that!

  • Need a little a assistanzzz, Beck? No problem. That's what big sisterzzz are for.

Voice Type: Low

Dr. Blackwell is a criminal who previously tried to shut down all robots in existence, only for him for him to be captured and thrown into a maximum security prison. He's the one who is thought to be the cause for the mass robot malfunctions happening all over America.

Dr. Blackwell is an old man, so you'll need to sound exasperated and tired, but you also need to have a low voice with an intimidating demeanor, matching with his design.

  • [Uninterested]  Hmph... One of those Sandas aren't you. The scientist one. What do you want?

  • ("Irritated grumble") You got lucky, that's all. And cleaning up your own mess doesn't make you a visionary. Besides, who can guarantee the behaviour of robots left to their own devices?!

  • Then only time will tell if this Mighty Number 9 - this "Beck" is a blessing... or a curse. Hmph!

Vocal Type: Low

Nicknamed Mic, Mighty Number 4 is a robot built for heavy lifting and mining work. He is a robot of few words, but when he talks, he is quite sophisticated and humble, wishing not to trouble his other companions.

When auditioning for Mic, take note that his voice is very deep, otherwise, it's up to you how you want to voice his deep-voiced self.

  • [Battle cry] GRRAAAAAAHH!!!

  • [Confused, yet concerned] Beck? ...Why Beck come? It's dangerous here.

  • This could turn into a fifty car pileup any minute. Hate to ask, but I could use some help.

Vocal Type: Mid

Nicknamed Brand, Mighty Number 7 is all about using his blades to slice and dice his adversaries. He is incredibly honourable and cares for the safety of others.

When planning to audition for Brand, you'll need to know that he is very self-conscious about his actions and values honour more than anything; so much so that he's even trying to resist the malfunction during his stage. The best way to portray his voice is to try and sound caring, self-conscious and confident in his own abilities.

  • [Resisting Malfunction] [Scared] N-no closer... One more step and my blades will have their way with you!

  • [Resisting Malfunction] I can't... I can't control myself. If you want... to save me... You must destroy me!

  • [Confident] Heh. All fall before my blade. Onward, Beck - onward!

Vocal Type: Low

Ray is the DLC exclusive character with her very own campaign. She is constantly on the verge of death and is keeping herself alive through the use of Xels (pronounced cells). She is a mysterious character, but she seems to have a history with Dr. White.

Ray is a very determined robot; even if her actions will result in her death, her resolve and will to live keep her going. You should try to capture this trait when auditioning for her. Also keep in mind, she is a dark, brooding character, so incorporate that into her voice, which should work best if you give her a low voice.

  • 12 hours... that's all I have. I must hold... Must keep it together... Or all the evidence I've found will be lost...

  • [Threatening] You will tell me exactly where I can find him... or I will tear it from your Xels myself!

  • But why...? Why am I alive?! ("Panting in pain") Uuurrgh... ("Scream in pain")

Seijiro is Dr. Sanda's brother who is currently located in the head office in Tokyo, Japan.

Unlike his brother, he is very well spoken and doesn't joke around, though he is able to compromise.

Seijiro should be played as a serious, no-nonsense character, though he shows sympathy towards his brother, Dr. Sanda.

  • I'm sorry, Soichiro. Please understand.

  • The Japanese government won't let us intervene until we know the cause of the malfunctions.

  • Absolutely, Professor White. Anything we can do. Do you have a plan in mind?

Vocal Type: Mid +Low (when malfunctioning)

Nicknamed Pyro, Mighty Number 1 controls fire and as you might expect, is quite a hot head. However, when he's malfunctioning, his grammatical skills decrease dramatically and is constantly angry.

If you plan to audition for Pyro, you'll need to display both vocal styles for him. When he's malfunctioning, he loses his temper easily, has a more bellowing, loud voice and yells most of his dialogue. When he's back to normal, however, his voice changes to a cockier, cool tone and is very confident in his own abilities.

NOTE: To differentiate between his two vocal tones, the lines where he's malfunctioning are written in pointed brackets next to the appropriate lines.

  • {Malfunctioning} [Angry] You... Why you not burn? Why you not... BUUUURN?!?

  • {Malfunctioning} [Furious] PYRO CRASH, AND YOU BUUUUURN!!!

  • [Confident] There's only one way to get past all this ice: BUURN right through it!

  • And now, live, from Avi News world headquarters: continuing coverage of: ("adlib a song or tune") Nation. In. Crisis.

  • This just in: bad guy spotted on the west side of the radio tower! Bots are in pursuit. Now to Avi for the weather. Thanks, Avi! We've got strong winds out there today. Be careful!

Mr. Graham is the head of Cherry Dynamics, who are the world's leading robot manufacture. He is adamant in telling the public that his company isn't the one behind the robot outbreak, but a man named Dr. Blackwell; he does this because he doesn't want to sully the name of his company.

Graham is a two-faced individual; charismatic and professional when in public but is selfish and quick to anger, all so he can advance his company. He's also quick to blame others for his problems instead of taking responsibility for them. If you audition for Graham, try to capture the duality of his character in your performance.

  • Attention. Attention. [Frustrated] Is this thing on?! Oh! ("Clear throat")

  • My fellow Americans: In this time of crisis, we at Cherry Dyn would just like to express... that this ISN'T OUR FAULT!

  • [Angry] IDIOT! Why are they hounding me about the problem and not torturing Blackwell to get the answer?! This is twice that old goat has made me look like a fool! ("Frustrated grunt")

  • It is the present year. Breakthroughs in robotic technology have ushered in a new era of peace and prosperity.

  • Violence is confined to the Battle Colosseum, where robot combatants face off in spectacular duels.

  • [Condescending] Wondering what happened to all the humans here, little doggy? They ran away. Cowards. Every single one of those meat-sticks fled at the first sign of trouble. Pathetic.

  • [Confident] Okay, now, little doggy... let's see if you're all bark or if you've got some bite.

  • [Commanding] Hardly even worth the ammo. Forward now, Beck... CHARRGE!!!

  • Beck, we've no time to waste. Calculate the fastest possible route to the lab.

  • [Surprised] Mighty Number 6?! What does he think he's doing?! Unless... could he be malfunctioning too?
