Project Overview
Have you ever wondered what happened to Oz after Dorothy returned to Kansas?
INTRODUCTION
MARVELOUS is a long-term communal passion project set in the distorted dreamland of Oz, dedicated to adapting L. Frank Baum's The Marvelous Land of Oz (the first sequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz) into a musical audiovisual experience for the modern era. We are currently extremely early in development, and are hoping to collaborate with fellow creatives and fans of this century-old dream.
DESCRIPTION
MARVELOUS follows Tippetarius, a youth who has suffered under the control of an occultish experimenter (and undercover witch) named Mombi for as long as he can remember. When Mombi's dealings in magic produce something unexpectedly innocent, Tip is forced to steal the Witch's newborn creature and run headlong into an Oz he was born in but has never truly known. As Tip learns to love Oz and regains confidence in himself, he accidentally finds himself in the midst of an insurrection that exposes Oz's deep scars and threatens to tear everything apart. As Oz destroys itself from the inside out, Tip begins to realize that the salvation of his home is intricately linked to the realization of his identity and the discovery of his purpose.
REQUIREMENTS FOR AUDITIONS/APPLICATIONS
We are looking for a diverse variety of identities, vocal ranges, character stylings, and specializations. Our only general requirement is that you must be able to act, sing, and have some independent interest in the story. Otherwise, we have a large cast list (which will be revealed as time goes by), so, unless we get a HUGE amount of auditions, you will be cast if you wish to be. More detailed info will come as the project develops, and we are excited to work with you to bring this dream to life!

CASTING NOTES: This character is an enchanted princess who presents as male through most of MARVELOUS, but finally undergoes a discovery of self by the midpoint of Act III, from which point she lives as herself. Though auditions for all characters are open to all performers, we encourage transgender women and nonbinary actors of color to apply to portray our lead.

CHARACTER NOTE: Jinjur is the ascendant Munchkin General of the Army of Revolt, a charismatic leader and rageful demagogue who can both inspire and deceive, though an argument can be made that there is no difference between the two.

CHARACTER NOTE: Jack Pumpkinhead is not merely the arboreal brainchild of a desperate Tippetarius, but the first true showcase of a magic more powerful than anything yet seen in Oz. However, even the secret of his creation pales in comparison to the true Secret the Witch Mombi seeks to reobtain from the youth and Pumpkinhead.

CHARACTER NOTE: Mombi is a multihyphenate: abdicated witch, dedicated scholar, shapeshifting spirit and disinterested captor. But Tip knows her best as the nightmare who keeps him locked away without explanation, and she knows him best as an eternal burden she never wanted but must always bear.
