Madness Returns: The Musical (Concept Album)

Madness Returns: The Musical (Concept Album)

Project Overview

This is a musical in the works based on the sequel to "American McGee's Alice," the game "Alice: Madness Returns."
This is being entirely written and composed by me, so I am only looking for voice actors/singers to fit the vocals as a concept album! If this is to go well, I will be presenting it to American McGee and attempting a script publish.
I decided to take on the role of Alice in this concept album. Most characters from the game are included. Duchess is the only "main character" at risk of being removed from the script.

IF there is to be profit made, it will be distributed accordingly to all who were in the album. If not, then I hope you enjoy the experience!

I will NOT be releasing any scenes or songs until I have secured it. Then it will be distributed to the actors.
Please have a good quality microphone (no static or background noise) and a professional attitude going into this.

!Sensitive topics will be involved. If you know anything about this game, it is very dark.!

Accents are necessary! Please only audition in the accent displayed for that role.

Not all roles in the show are displayed here! Some roles do not have singing parts, and this is the concept album. Speaking roles are not required.

Callbacks and accepted VAs will be here, but you can also use this to keep up with sneak peeks and such!

Dr. Angus Bumby/Dollmaker (SINGER + VA)
open
Deferred: Agreed Amount

Dr. Angus Bumby was Alice Liddell's manipulative psychiatrist and the head of the Houndsditch Home for Wayward Youth in London. Bumby appeared to help Alice, along with the other orphans who lived there, to forget about traumatic events in their past using hypnotherapy. However, it was revealed that he had much darker motives and a greater role in Alice's past than she first realized.

The Dollmaker was the Wonderland incarnation of Dr. Angus Bumby. He was the mastermind behind the Infernal Train and Wonderland's corruption. Following his defeat and his real-world counterpart's death, Alice Liddell was once again able to save herself and her memories. The Dollmaker is the main antagonist (sharing this role with his counterpart Bumby)

His role will require strong yet medium masculine vocals. No range is set as of now, but there might be belting. Bumby is a main character, but only seen once in Act 1. He and the Dollmaker are seen more within Act 2, especially towards the end.
Feel free to study gameplay for his personality and speaking voice.
As the Dollmaker, his voice requires distortion. If you want to incorporate that, go for it, otherwise, that will be edited on during the production.

Cheshire Cat (SINGER + VA)

Deferred: Agreed Amount
Role assigned to: Benjamin Smith

The Cheshire Cat is Alice Liddell's primary ally and principal companion in Wonderland. He is a talking cat that constantly smiles, and can disappear at will.

Although a friend to Alice, the Cheshire Cat commonly has a snarky attitude towards her and she always returns the same treatment. Cynical, sarcastic, distant, philosophical, and earnest, and he can render valuable service.
In the musical, he will play a bit of a darker role, while also guiding her, he is very charismatic with her too. He also provokes her into breakdowns/madness a few times.

His vocals require a strong, semi-deep masculine voice.
He is the second most-seen character in the show, Alice being the first.
Feel free to study him through gameplay footage, but feel free to mix Disney's animated Cheshire personality in a bit.
This is the only role that an American accent may be considered for, but an English/British one is preferred.

The Duchess is a noble resident of Wonderland. The Duchess appeared again but now as a form of ally, as she no longer wished to eat Alice. In exchange for Pig Snouts, she sent Alice Duchess baskets as a reward.

She is at risk for removal.

Her role entails more feminine operatic vocalization.
She is briefly in Act 1, in an early scene within the Vale of Tears. She has dialogue, and a song, and is not present throughout the rest of the show.

Mad Hatter (SINGER + VA)
open
Deferred: Agreed Amount

The Mad Hatter is a resident of Wonderland who Alice Liddell is acquainted with, as she met him during her first visit to Wonderland, along with the March Hare and Dormouse. He remained a fanatic of time, but was no longer the tea party-loving hatter that Alice once knew. From his domain, Hatter began torturing Alice's friends and the residents of Wonderland, transforming many into mechanical automatons. He was later killed by Alice, but revived when Wonderland returned to its former state.

Sometime during Alice's stay in Houndsditch, he became the victim of the Hare and Dormouse, now the rulers of his former domain. All three were killed, although Hatter is seen afterwards, leaving his fate ambiguous.

The Hatter is featured in two songs within Act 1. He does also make an appearance towards the end of Act 2.
This role is more open to be played with, as long as the vocals remain masculine. Feel free to record multiple attempts at the voice, silly and serious, etc.

March Hare (SINGER + VA)

cast offsite

The March Hare (and the Dormouse) had taken control of Hatter's Domain and used it to build the Infernal Train. He controlled the Cranking Up and Pressing Down sector of the new industry, using dodos and the Hatter's legs in a system akin to hamster wheels in order to power his section of the factory.

His role requires a bit deeper of a masculine voice. He has a thick Scottish accent. His song is rather mild when it comes to range, it is aggressive though.

Dormouse (and the March Hare) have taken control of Hatter's Domain and used it to build the Infernal Train. They then ripped the Hatter apart and redistributed his limbs to serve various purposes in the factory. Dormouse used the Hatter's arms in a metal smelting works to power his section of the factory.

His voice can also be played with, a higher masculine voice is preferred.
He appears in Act 1, and may or may not make an appearance near the end of Act 2.

The Carpenter was a resident of Wonderland and a flamboyant stage director of the Dreary Lane Theatre in the Deluded Depths. Since Alice Liddell's fall into insanity, he had become a corrupted rendition of his former self.

He has a good amount of song, a strong masculine voice is needed. Belting may be required.
His main part of the show is in Act 1, but he may make an appearance towards the end of Act 2.

Deferred: Agreed Amount

Oyster Starlets are creatures Alice Liddell met in the Deluded Depths. Alice was tasked to wake them up from their sleep for them to perform in the Carpenter's show, but only ended up getting eaten by Walrus during the show itself.

CASTING 3 TO 4 FOR THIS ROLE.

They're all requiring a feminine voice with good vocals, ideally two altos and one or two sopranos.
These girls have two songs in Act 1, and are not present afterwards.
These girls can have any accent. Have fun with it.

The Caterpillar is a resident of Wonderland, who is considered to be its wisest creature. He is of great significance to Alice Liddell during her adventures, as he often gives her advice and words of wisdom.

He is not seen often, he has the Act 1 finale with Alice, and is present towards the end of act 2.
His voice is a deeper masculine. No substantial strain or belting.

Red Queen/Queen of Hearts (SINGER + VA)

When Alice finally reached the throne room, the Queen complained of her lost rule and was enraged that Alice had allowed the Dollmaker to claim authority over Wonderland in her stead. The Queen still offered Alice the truth as to how she may stop the desolation of her mind and gave her clues as to who could benefit from her insanity.

She requires strong feminine alto vocals. Feel free to study her character a bit as well from gameplay.
She is only present in the second act of the show, playing a major role.

Elizabeth Liddell (SINGER + VA)

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Liddell was the eldest child of Arthur Liddell and Mrs. Liddell and the older sister of Alice Liddell.

At the age of eighteen, Lizzie was s/a and killed in the fire that also killed her parents and burned down their family home in Oxford.

The two parents are roles within the show, but I don't think I will need to cast them for the album.
The Liddell family has multiple appearances throughout the show. Lizzie will sing a lullaby to Alice on occasion, and has a solo in one of the final songs.
Her vocals require a feminine soprano. It doesn't have to be too strong, her voice is very soft.
