Audio Engineer (English Dubbing) - Volunteer Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented Audio Engineer to join our volunteer dubbing team. This role is essential in bringing anime to life for English-speaking audiences by ensuring a seamless, high-quality audio experience that matches the original visual intent.

Responsibilities

• Dialogue Synchronization: Align recorded English voice-over tracks to the video, ensuring dialogue matches character mouth movements ("mouth flaps") and timing precisely.
• Audio Mixing: Balance dialogue levels against the original background music and sound effects (BGM/SFX) tracks.
• Cleanup & Processing: Perform noise reduction, de-essing, and equalization on raw vocal recordings to ensure clarity.
• Mastering: Finalize the audio mix to ensure consistent volume levels and high-fidelity output across the entire project.

Requirements

• Technical Proficiency: Deep familiarity with your preferred Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) (e.g., Pro Tools, Reaper, Adobe Audition, Audacity, etc.).
• A Keen Ear: Strong ability to detect timing discrepancies and volume inconsistencies.
• Attention to Detail: Patience for the meticulous process of syncing syllable-by-syllable when necessary.
• Communication: Ability to collaborate with the project leads to meet deadlines and maintain the creative vision.

ADR Scriptwriter (English Dubbing Adaptation) - Volunteer Position

We are looking for a creative and meticulous ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement) Scriptwriter to join our volunteer team. This role is the bridge between a raw translation and a natural-sounding performance, ensuring that our English scripts feel seamless when paired with the original animation.

Responsibilities

• Script Adaptation: Take literal English translations and rewrite them into conversational, natural dialogue that maintains the original story's intent and tone.
• Lip-Sync Engineering: Adapt lines to match the character’s "mouth flaps" (labial synchronization), ensuring the number of syllables and the timing of "opens" and "closes" match the animation.
• Pacing & Breath Marks: Identify and mark "breaths," pauses, and effort sounds (grunts, sighs, etc.) to guide voice actors during recording sessions.
• Character Consistency: Maintain a distinct voice and personality for each character throughout the script.

Requirements

• Creative Writing Skills: Ability to rewrite sentences for timing without losing the nuanced meaning of the original text.
• Visual Timing: A sharp eye for rhythmic timing and the ability to "count" flaps against the video.
• Collaborative Spirit: Openness to feedback from the director and audio engineers to ensure the script is "record-ready."
• Passion for Anime: A deep understanding of anime tropes, Japanese honorifics (and how to adapt them), and storytelling conventions.

Closed Captions & Subtitler (SDH) - Volunteer Position

We are looking for a dedicated Subtitler and Closed Captioner to help make our projects accessible to all viewers. This role focuses on timing, formatting, and creating comprehensive captions that include essential context for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDH).

Responsibilities

• Subtitle Timing: Synchronize English dialogue with precision using Aegisub, ensuring text appears and disappears at the exact moment of speech.
• SDH Captioning: Create descriptive captions for non-speech elements, including sound effects (e.g., "[Door creaks]," "[Explosion in distance]") and speaker identification.
• Song Lyrics: Style and time song lyrics to match the rhythm and mood of the music, including musical cues where appropriate.
• Formatting & Readability: Ensure font size, positioning, and line breaks follow standard readability guidelines to provide a comfortable viewing experience.
• Quality Assurance: Review and edit captions for grammar, spelling, and consistency across episodes.

Requirements

• Software Expertise: Proven experience with Aegisub (including knowledge of timing shortcuts and styles).
• Accessibility Knowledge: Familiarity with the differences between standard subtitles and Closed Captions (SDH).
• Linguistic Accuracy: Strong command of English grammar and the ability to transcribe dialogue accurately.
• Attention to Detail: A "pixel-perfect" mindset for timing and a commitment to ensuring no dialogue or sound effect is missed.
