Lucid Garden: Side Character Casting Call
Project Overview
17+ REQUIRED.
Back at it again! Just rounding up a few more voices that’ll help bring this project to life. If you’ve auditioned in my last Lucid Garden casting call, now’s a great time to redeem yourself and give it another go! I heard a lot of really great voices from the gangster auditions, so maybe one of them’ll make it in this time… CvC
Quick premise if you’re not familiar with the project: Lucid Garden is a comedy drug satire/SoL set in a dystopian world of bugs n flowers who have forgotten what real happiness is. Because of skyrocketing pollution and the overall horrid condition of their lives, everyone’s made to believe that everything’s coming to an end and there’s nothing left worth living for. But to ease all the anxiety, depression and despair, an artificial solution for happiness is heavily advertised on every billboard, on every screen, to where nearly every single person still breathing has bought into it, depending on it like air itself.
Drugs.

The pilot is set to be released as a 30~ minute animatic, which may or may not be used as a proof-of-concept for a future Kickstarter, which will fund the rest of the episodes, at least the next one, to be 3d animated. I’ve got a whole vision for the animation style (gonna look somethin like the thumbnail), but have no idea whether or not it’s gonna be possible yet. We’re playin it by ear :’>
GUIDELINES:
To audition, you must have a proper setup. Any mic is fine, as long as your voice is clean and clear. Please do not submit mouse-quiet recordings; I shouldn’t have to turn my volume all the way up just to hear TvT
Multiple takes in any format are allowed and even encouraged as to further showcase your capabilities.
Make sure you’ve recorded all lines for the character you’re trying out for before submitting.

Voice Actor
A middle-aged buttercup with that motherly tough-love attitude. She’s got a lot of wisdom on her petals and isn’t afraid to deliver the cold hard truth. Her soft side is often hidden underneath her tough skin and firm authority, and if you test her, she will smack you with the broom. And by the broom I mean the broom in the lil ol’ slushie shop she manages that no one even knows about for real. Really just a mini mart, but people, if anyone, usually go for the slushies.
For her voice, I’m imagining a deep, warm South-Eastern vibe—like New Orleans—but kinda gravelly as well. She speaks with a calm energy that’s comforting but assertive when need be. Especially when she’s going off on a pesky dopefein.
*Quick note: she only has one line in the pilot, and is reffered to as “Sultry Female Voice.” But trust, she will get to shine plenty.

Voice Actor
A sly, drug-dealing black ant who seems to have nothing better to do than, well, deal drugs. Still a student in highschool by the way. While his role is quite minor, he does impact the main character here and there, taking great joy in causing as much discomfort as possible. But through his character, we will get to see how slowly but surely, the streets he usually roams carefree take a dark turn which may or may not cause him to have second thoughts about the gig that is basically his entire identity.
I’ve always imagined him having a gritty, mid-pitch voice, with maybe a hint of afro-latino in there. He’s quite the smiley guy so I should hear that as well.

Voice Actor
Makes first appearance in episode 2.
A totally chill, totally unbothered Greigii tulip in her late teens. Gets a kick out of poking fun at the main character. Sometimes it’s kinda hard to tell if she’s really just a jerk or if it’s her way of showing she cares. Cause she’ll never show sympathy nor compassion—Only thing she’ll give is slightly amused, inconsiderate remarks. In her mind she’s helping. But in most cases she’s just trying to tick you off.
I don’t really have anything too specific for her voice, other than maybe the faint idea that she should sound a lil like Violet Parr from Incredibles, but a deeper voice. I’m not too sure about it. We can try it, but I’m open to anything you throw at me. Just as long as you’ve got the chill factor.

Voice Actor
I want Lucid Garden to have a distinct background character sound, something unique to the show. Maybe the same few crowd laughs used multiple times, a uniform voice style that varies but never strays into something else, etc etc. I don’t quite know how to convey what I’m thinking, but basically the social world of Lucid Garden should reflect the authenticity of multi-cultural teens/young adults; it should feel lived in, relatable, and real, but with a stylistic edge that would be iconic to the show.
The voice style that I’m going for is pretty straight-forward: chill, urban, and sometimes a lil wild and animated to showcase the party animal side of the community.
