Love: An Undertale Series (Recasting and New Voices Needed!)

Project Overview

Project Information

"LOVE" is a fan animation project based on the popular video game Undertale created by Toby Fox. It focuses on the new lives of the main characters living on the Surface near Mt. Ebott. The overall themes are drama and humor, with a hint of mystery. Episode release dates are TBD. First episode will most likely come out near the end of 2020. Since this is a fan-based project, it will be unpaid. This is a good opportunity for people to gain experience through creating something based on a game we love. Please understand that, besides animation, there are so many other countless factors that go into the process of a series. Everyone is working very hard on this, so things will take a very long time to complete. Being patient is important for both fans and team members to remember when eagerly awaiting or creating something as big as a fan-based series.


Episode Information
There will be no more than 20 episodes for the series. The episodes will be labelled as "LV," to correlate with leveling up in the game. We're aiming for the episode lengths to be anywhere from 15-20 minutes (or shorter). Not trying to kill the animators, but we need to give that much space for story creation. Shorts may be included in the series but that is yet to be determined. The episodes will consist of four arcs, which have been explained in our older casting call. Please check it out for more information!


Casting Call Information

As of November 2019, we are still looking for a variety of voice actors for this project. Due to some voice actors being unable to dedicate time to the project, there are certain characters and roles that must be recast. There are also a few new character roles available that weren't open before, as well as returning backup positions.

In addition to voice acting, we are in need of more editors (video and audio), animators, concept artists, composers,  and audio designers (but this information will be available on our Deviant Art page at a later time. We will share update posts once more info is available).

The characters needed for the series are as follows:

  • Burgerpants (recasting)
  • Mettaton (recasting)
  • Papyrus (new) (to be added later)
  • Various Roles (Male, Female, & Androgynous)

If you are interested in volunteering for this project please continue reading below for audition rules.

RULES

     1.  You must have a clear microphone with no feedback, background noise, or clipping

     2. Volume must be at an audible range (not too quiet, and not too loud... which could cause clipping)

     3. Whichever role you choose,  there should be enough emotion or DETERMINATION passion in your voice for your character. I will not choose those who are lacking in the emotional department 


If you do not meet these basic requirements, I will not choose you for our voices. (You have to really wow me to excuse one or two of these rules)

  

In addition to these requirements, please be sure to check out the bio page of each character that you would like to voice. There are specific things that we are looking for in each character, along with detailed instructions for all of them. Instructions for minor characters will be different from the main characters. Failure to follow these instructions will result in you not being chosen. 


Audition Deadlines 

Burgerpants Deadline = January 25th (Deadline Met)
Mettaton Deadline = Feburary 15th (Deadline Met)
Papyrus Deadline = March 1st
Other deadlines for characters will be announced at a later time once they've been added to the casting call!

Please do not follow the deadlines listed on the website as it constantly changes. We will specify a deadline date within the description!


Audition Winners

If you have been selected to voice a character, this is what we'll need from you:

     1. Email--This is obviously necessary, as this is the easiest way to contact you. All files and documents related to the project are placed in Google Drive, and an email is required to access everything

     2. Discord--We have a private server for the project where most (if not all) of our communication is based on. We host meetings, send messages, give updates, and announcements on discord. It is imperative that you have this in order to help out. We don't expect you to use it 24/7, but it IS your responsibility to check for any announcements related to the project and to know what work you're supposed to do, including deadlines. If you don't already have an account on Discord, you will need to make one.

     3. Trello--Trello is a very helpful organizing tool (and free) that keeps track of deadlines and tasks for everybody on the project. Supervisors, helpers, and volunteers alike use this to stay aware of what they need to do. It's also holds lots of hublinks to important files and documents, AND sends updates straight to your email (if that's your preferred method of contact). If you don't already have one, you will need to make an account on Trello. 

If you do not have and cannot make accounts for these three required methods of contact, we cannot use your help for the project!

If you were not chosen, please do not be discouraged! Just know that you did your best and there will always be other opportunities out there for you! We may even hold you as a back-up for this and other future projects under Sava Phoenix Studios!

  • The Bones have Finished Trousling!

Burgerpants is the anxious young teenager who is still stuck working for Mettaton. While it’s obvious he isn’t a huge fan of his boss, he is often forced to say nice things about him to the customers, for fear of being fired and having no other sources of income. Even on the surface, Burgerpants continues to work for Mettaton, mainly due to a bleak outlook on his dim future. Thankfully, he has become friends and roommates with the Nice Cream Guy, and has developed a sort of frenemy relationship with Bratty and Catty (he secretly wishes to go on a date with one of the girls, but that doesn't seem like it'll happen anytime soon). While the three encourage him to follow his dreams, Burgerpants has a hard time seeing the positive things in life.

Burgerpant's role is very important in episode 2, and his character is needed most urgently!


What We Are Looking For:

First and foremost, please do the best that you can with your Burgerpants voice. Do NOT stress yourself out into doing something that isn't comfortable in your vocal range. We are open to any kind of voice for Burgerpants so long as it somewhat resembles that of a teenager. Burgerpants is a very odd, anxious and sporadic teen, both in the game, and in our series. So it may be best for you to read your lines in a way that’s both panicky and a bit unstable at times.

About the Lines

All lines are taken from the game.

Line 1: This excerpt from the game contains no real directions. Just give us your best shot without having been told to do anything. Keep in mind the expectations/requirements listed above.

Line 2: Here is another piece of dialogue from the game. The only difference between this and the first line is that the producer/director has put a little more direction for you If chosen, you'll be reading your lines from a script that will mostly look like this. You must follow the instructions given to you. So, have fun with this one! Again, do your best, and keep in mind the expectations/requirements as listed above!

Line 3: This is the final game excerpt, but it is modified in a way that looks most like the scripts we make for the series project. Due to the Casting Call Club changing their format, we have had to adjust the layout of this particular line set, so our actual scripts will look a tad different. All of Burgerpants lines are underlined in the script. However, please pay attention to the actions and descriptions listed in parentheses as well. They may contain important actions from the characters that cannot simply be expressed in the dialogue lines themselves, so be careful not to miss that.   • God, have you even looked around? This place is a labyrinth of bad choices. And every time we try to change something for the better, he vetoes it and says "that's not how they do it on the surface." OH! RIGHT!! Humans are always eating hamburgers made of SEQUINS AND GLUE!

  • *smug chuckle* (coolly) Listen. I like you, little buddy. So I'm gonna save you a lot of trouble. (screaming) NEVER INTERACT WITH ATTRACTIVE PEOPLE! (suddenly cool) Unless you're "one of them," they're just gonna take advantage of you. *eyes twitch* (struggling to hide seething anger) Like that time those two chicks asked me to sneak them some glamburgers. (suddenly cool) And I, naïve teenager that I was, said yes to them. *shudders* (to himself) Bad idea.
    (smugly) So I went out to the alley to see those two ladies, and uh... you know... *quietly chuckles* (slyly) See what'd happen next. *suddenly shudders with shaky hands* (whimpering) T-then my boss, uh, saw me and asked what I was doing. (extremely panicky) I was so startled, the hamburgers in my pockets tumbled out onto the ground. (struggling not to scream) Not wanting to lose face, I scrambled to pick them up! But, as I was leaning over, the weight of the remaining hamburgers... *breathing heavy as if to calm down* caused my pants to fall down. (a defeated tone) Then the girls laughed at me. (spaced out) Everyone calls me Burgerpants now...

  • (Frisk tells Burgerpants about Bratty and Catty wanting to hang out with him)

    Burgerpants: *a relieved exhale* You’re kidding. They wanna hang out after work? *laughs triumphantly* (overly aggressive) YES!!!

    (Burgerpants continues to laugh and dance behind his station like a child)

    Burgerpants: (energetic) I won’t let you down!! *places a hand on Frisk’s shoulders* (genuinely) Little buddy… thank you. *sniffles* (trying not to cry) You’ve… you’ve brought a tear to the eye of this old man!

    (He slowly regains his composure and wipes away the single tear before calming down)

    Burgerpants: So, uh, where do they want to go?

    (Frisk tells him where exactly they want to meet him)

    Burgerpants: *raises a confused brow* (in disbelief) …they uhhh…. They want to hang out at the garbage dump?

    (Burgerpants’ eyes dash away from Frisk, staring at the ground in apathy. Suddenly, his head perks right back up and he displays an extremely creepy)

    Burgerpants: *with tears in his eyes* (screaming horrifyingly) WELP! NOWHERE TO GO BUT UP, RIGHT LITTLE BUDDY?!

    (He goes back to laughing maniacally. Slowly, the laughing turns into crying as he places yet another hand on Frisk’s shoulder)

    Burgerpants: (whimpering through tears) T-thank you, little buddy. Just… thank you

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BEFORE AUDITIONING FOR THIS CHARACTER!!

Papyrus is the lovable, yet goofy skeleton who dreamed of becoming a member of the underground’s elite Royal Guard. Instead, he became friends with the human he was sent to capture: Frisk! Now that the monsters are free from the underground and the Royal Guard has been disbanded, Papyrus has started idolizing the local police force on the surface. While not a member himself, he tries his very best to do what’s right for his friends, even if he tends to be a bit childish at times. He goes to school with Frisk and Monster Kid, and has an ardent passion for a local bone museum.

Papyrus has a minor role in episode 2, and his lines are needed as urgently as Burgerpants!


What We Are Looking For:

First and foremost, please do the best that you can with your Papyrus voice. Do NOT stress yourself out into doing something that isn't comfortable in your vocal range. Second, while most people in the fandom’s headcanon for Papyrus resembles Skeletor, you don’t have to do that. If you’re able to bring something different to this character, we’ll be glad to hear it, so long as you give us someone whose optimistic/confident voice is shrouded in hypocrisy and egotism. Also if you can roll your Rs when you say “great” in “The Great Papyrus,” that’d be fantastic, but we won’t hold it against you if you can’t. -wink-

Papyrus is a very iconic character in the franchise, so you really need to deliver your lines strongly for this audition, no matter what kind of voice you go with. We will be paying special attention to the auditions for this character.

Episode Summary: Frisk, Monster Kid, and Papyrus are on their way to school, excited for the day ahead. Not even Burgerpants' sour mood on the bus can deter them... or can it? Given the kind of day our friends have, things might just take a turn for the worst!

  • Alas... I, the Great Papyrus... have failed. I feel just the same as before. And instead, by dating you... I have only drawn you deeper... into your intense love for me! A dark prison of passion, with no escape. How could I have done this to my dear friend?
    ...NO! WAIT! THAT'S WRONG! I can't fail at anything! HUMAN!! I'll help you through these trying times! I'll keep being your cool friend... and act like this all never happened. After all, you are very great. It would be tragic to lose your friendship. So please... don't cry because I won't kiss you. Because... I don't even have lips. And hey, someday, you'll find someone as great as me!
    ...well, no, that's not true either. But I'll help you settle for second best! NYEH HEH HEH HEH HEH!!

  • (authoritative) Human. Allow me to tell you about some complex feelings. Feelings like... (happily) the joy of finding another pasta lover. (swooning) The admiration for another's puzzle-solving skills.  *places hands on hips* The desire to have a cool, smart person think you are cool. These feelings... (excited) they must be what you are feeling right now!! *crosses arms and places a hand on his chin* Oh, I can hardly imagine what it must be like to feel that way. (confident) After all, I am very great.  I don't ever wonder what having lots of friends is like. *deeply sighs and shakes his head* (dry and condescending) I pity you... lonely human... *raises a finger* But worry not! You shall be lonely no longer! *stretches his arms out lovingly* I, the great Papyrus, will be your... *slowly puts them down as he stares at Frisk*
    (panicked) No... No, this is all wrong! I can't be your friend!! *aggressively points* (shouting) You are a human! I must capture you! Then, I can fulfill my lifelong dream! (proudly and confidently; gradually louder) Powerful! Popular! Prestigious!! That's Papyrus! The newest member... OF THE ROYAL GUARD!!!

  • MK: Dude, we gotta go faster! We’re gonna miss the bus!

    Frisk: *nods head while still panting*

    Papyrus: (shouting) I’m right behind you, friends!

    (Papyrus catches up to Frisk and MK. He seems to be power jogging with a smile on his face. He isn’t out of breath at all. It isn’t long before he speeds past and looks back at them)

    Papyrus: Looks like someone’s been skipping out on their spaghetti!

    MK: *panting* But I always eat my spaghetti, Oh Great Papyrus!

    Papyrus: You should be eating spaghetti at least three times a day! *raises a finger* In fact, I always--OOF!

    (He runs headfirst into a large wooden structure and falls down, rubbing his head in pain)

    Papyrus: Oww... (a bit angry) Who put this here?! *stares at the structure* (plainly) Oh, it was me

    (The wooden structure is actually a large gate, but the bars are too far apart to stop anyone or anything. One half is made of wood, while the other half is made of something monochrome. Suddenly, a loud honk is heard nearby. Frisk and MK catch up to Papyrus but are still out of breath)

    MK: (while panting) That’s the bus! We gotta hurry, Paps!

    Papyrus: *quickly stands up* Right behind you!

    (Papyrus runs to the kids and scoops them up under each of his arms. They both smile and laugh)

    Papyrus: And NOW I’ve got you! Nyeh! Heh! Heh!

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BEFORE AUDITIONING FOR THIS CHARACTER!!

Mettaton is the fabulous and charismatic ghost-turned-robot who once fought Frisk in the Underground. He has an unhealthy obsession with humans and is one of the few monsters to reach fame and fortune on the surface. Having become a near-instant success with humans, he owns a variety of shops, products, and businesses around the world. His popularity also gives him leverage to hire monsters to work for him in more human-based areas. He provides the strongest bridge in restoring peace between humans and monsters on the surface.  This makes him a bit arrogant at times, but he does mean well (if your name isn't Burgerpants). His most successful method in human-monster relations has been through his television show.  Let's just hope nothing bad happens on the surface that messes with the ratings. His inability to listen to reason could jeopardize everything if he's not careful...

Mettaton will not appear in episode 2, but he will be in future episodes down the line.


What We Are Looking For:

First and foremost, please do the best that you can with your Mettaton voice. Do NOT stress yourself out into doing something that isn't comfortable in your vocal range. Second, We will most likely choose TWO voice actors for this role. The Sava Phoenix Crew is currently deciding whether or not Mettaton's BOX form should have a separate voice from the EX form. Regardless of what we decide to do, we’re open to a variety of different kinds of voices for Mettaton. Something a bit higher pitched or with a more effeminate tone would be nice, but is not necessary. Mettaton is a very flamboyant and dramatic character, so you really need to deliver your lines strongly for this audition, no matter what kind of voice you go with. If a scene asks you to be cold and distant one second, and then extremely apologetic the next, then you NEED to deliver those lines effectively.

When you are recording your lines, please keep in mind that we need to hear your natural voice with no edited effects. It’s good to have the ability to input effects, but it is not necessary for this audition as we have a sound designer who can do that for us.

Episode Summary:  Mettaton is trying to save what's left of his television show while having Undyne as his chaotic guest. She has destroyed countless things on set, and has essentially turned his show into a disaster. Mettaton is beyond angry, and at the point of this excerpt he is more than ready to kick Undyne out of his studio. 

  • Oh~ Yes! Welcome, beauties, to the Underground's Premier Cooking Show! Pre-heat your ovens, because we've got a very special recipe for you today! We're going to be making... A CAKE! My lovely assistant here will gather the ingredients. Everyone give them a big hand! We'll need sugar, milk, and eggs. Go for it, sweetheart! PERFECT! Great job, beautiful! We've got all of the ingredients needed to bake the cake! Milk... sugar... Eggs... OH MY! Wait a magnificent moment! How could I forget! We're missing the most important ingredient! 

    ...A HUMAN SOUL! AHAHAHAHAHA!

  • (long and drawn out) Oh yes! (relieved) There you are, darling! It's time to have our little showdown. It's time to finally stop... *chuckles*  (with extreme exaggeration) the "malfunctioning" robot.  *waves a finger in the air* (playfully) ...NOT! *scoffs* Malfunction? Reprogramming? (vexed) Get real. This was all just a big show. An act, honey. (a matter-of-fact tone) Alphys has been playing you for a fool this whole time. As she watched you on the screen, she grew attached to your adventure. (feigned pleading) She desperately wanted to be a part of it. (a matter-of-fact tone) So, she decided to insert herself into your story. She reactivated puzzles. She disabled elevators. She enlisted me to torment you. (very somber) All so she could save you from dangers that didn't. Even. Exist. *a small laugh* (struggling to hold in laughter) All so you would think that she's this great person... that she's not. *laughs a short while longer before regaining his composure* (a bit serious) And now, it's time for her finest hour. At this very moment, Alphys is waiting outside the room. (with extreme sarcasm) During our... "battle," she will interrupt. She will pretend to "deactivate" me, "saving" you one final time. (as if delivering a great speech) Finally. She'll be the heroine of your adventure. You'll regard her so highly she'll even be able to convince you not to leave.... *a posh laugh* (very grim) Or not. (blatantly) You see, I've had just about enough of this predictable charade. I have no desire to harm humans. Far from it, actually. My only desire is to entertain. (very flirty) After all, the audience deserves a good show, don't they? *sinister chuckle* And what's a good show... (excitedly shouting) WITHOUT A PLOT TWIST?! Sorry, folks! The old program's been cancelled!! But we've got a finale that will drive you wild! (gradually gets louder and more excited) Real drama. Real ACTION! REAL BLOODSHED!! On our new show... (excitedly shouting) "ATTACK OF THE KILLER ROBOT!"

  • (Humans and monsters are moving frantically back and forth, both on and off the stage. Mettaton and Undyne  are... well...)

    Mettaton: (Sternly and angrily) Out. 

    Undyne: Aw, come on, Metta— 

    Mettaton: (even more aggressively) I want you out! Out of my sight. Out of my show. Out of my studio. I can finish the show without you!

    Undyne: *hands on her hips* And what are you gonna tell Alphys then?

    (In the distance, the director is making his way to both of them. Neither of them notices)

    Mettaton: *scoffs* (mockingly) What am I going to tell her? Isn’t it obvious? I’m going to tell her the truth! I’m going to tell her how her brutish girlfriend nearly destroyed my set and got me kicked off the air! (gradually getting louder) I’m going to tell her how she couldn’t follow my one simple rule: to control herself! I’m going to tell her that—

    Director: (cautiously) Er… excuse me, er… Mettaton…

    Mettaton: (exasperated) WHAT?!

    Director: (intimidated) I-I-I’m so sorry to bother you, b-but I, uh… well here.

    (The director hands Mettaton a sheet of paper with a long list of numbers and charts. Mettaton stares at it for a long time. Undyne tries to speak, but Mettaton holds up a finger to silence her as he continues reading)

    Mettaton: (confused) But… but I don’t understand… You… you told me that the ratings were the lowest you’ve ever seen!

    Director: Y-yes… they were.

    Mettaton: (angrily) So then why are you giving me this graph showing that our ratings and view count have actually DOUBLED?!

    Director: Because they have! Ever since Undyne took out the lights in the first half of the segment, more and more people have suddenly started tuning in. If she keeps this up, ‘MTT on STV’ might have enough ratings to even satisfy the big guy upstairs!

    Mettaton: *gasps* (quietly to himself) And then we can stay on the air…

    (Mettaton sheepishly turns to face Undyne as she crosses her arms. She now has an extremely smug look plastered across her face. She begins tapping her foot impatiently while staring long and hard at the robot. Her eyelids lower as she gives an exaggerated sigh)

    Undyne: Welp… I guess I’d better go now… wouldn’t want to ruin your show any further… *distances herself*

    Mettaton: *growls, then raises a pleading hand* Wait, Undyne… (cautiously) I-I’m sure we can fix this. After all, *clears his throat* this was just a little… ahem, misunderstanding? *weakly chuckles*

    Undyne: (extremely sarcastic) Oh no! There’s no misunderstanding at all! It’s completely my fault. You were right. Alphys shouldn’t have brought me here on the show. *dramatically places a hand to her cheek* I’m ruining everything! I should just leave! *distances herself more*

    Mettaton: (panicking) N-No! You’re staying! (desperately) Y-you have to! Or my show will—

    Undyne: I think you’ve made it perfectly clear that the show will be fine without me… (mockingly) See ya later, ‘darling!’ 

    (Undyne laughs before she slowly walks towards the exit. Suddenly, Mettaton darts over to Undyne and falls to the floor, gripping her ankles and stopping her in her tracks)

    Mettaton: (very exaggerated) Pleeease, Undyne! I’m begging you! Stay! *feigned crying* I’m nothing without my show! You have to stay! I’ll do anything! Anything!

    Undyne: *folds her arms* (slyly) ‘Anything’ you say?

    Mettaton: (dramatic crying) Yes, Undyne! Anything!

    Undyne: *half smiles then sighs* Alright then, I’ll stay on your stupid show.

    (Mettaton gleefully stands upright and claps his hands together)

    Mettaton: (elated) Oh, this is wonderful! My director’s gonna get everything back on track so we can—

    Undyne: Slow down there, rectangle. I’ve got conditions for bein’ on your show.

    Mettaton: *scoffs* (skeptical) What kind of conditions would you want?

    Undyne: (angrily) You said you'll do anything, didn’t ya?!

    Mettaton: (nervously) Y-yes… 

    Undyne: Well then, you’re honored guest’s gonna need to see a few modifications on your show

    Mettaton: *folds arms across his chest* Hmph! Well, I never!

    Director: Mettaton, I-I’ve gotta get back in place. We have to get back on the air in about three minutes!

    (Mettaton shudders as the director walks away. Undyne still has her arms crossed with a sly look on her face)

    Mettaton: (hesitantly) …W-what… what kind of modifications?

    Undyne: Heh. I thought you’d never ask…
