Lost/Thread Season 2 Major Roles & Extras
Project Overview
***The storyline between Celeste and Cyrus deals heavily with themes of racism, prejudice, and racially motivated violence. Actors must be comfortable navigating these heavy, tragic themes.***
The Past: A woman raised by a community completely separated from society. She is ignorant of modern life, which can make her come off as simple, but she is far from it. She is curious, bold, and brutally honest. Her journey is defined by a profound, world-bridging romance with Cyrus. Together, they manage to cross the massive divide between their vastly different lives, though their love story ultimately ends in tragedy.
100 Years Later: Celeste has been changed. She is no longer the innocent girl she once was, however, she hasn't let that take away her heart. She is still deeply caring and loving, turning her tragic past into something she never forgets and will always live with. She is one of the few survivors of a tragic calamity that befell her community, causing her to lose not just her family, but her soulmate.

(sorrowful) If you take the heat out of a fire, you lose the flame. If you take the cold out of winter, you lose the snow If you take the seed out of the soil, you lose the garden
(softly, reluctant) It's not about wanting to, Cyrus. I can't leave the woods...there my home.
(warmly) I'm Celeste. And I suppose I'll let that last apology slide, Cyrus. Because I really like your name.
***Content Note: Cyrus's narrative arc deals directly with navigating intense, racially motivated violence and racism. Please only audition if you are comfortable performing scenes that explore these uncomfortable and heavy themes.***
A young Black man with dreams of using film to escape his circumstances. Cyrus lives alone in a prejudiced small town that pushes him to the margins. Because of the hostility he faces daily, he is naturally skeptical, cautious, and has had to build thick skin just to survive. However, beneath his guarded exterior, he is a deeply kind and gentle person who just wants to make movies. His path collides with Celeste, leading to a deep, transformative romance that bridges their isolated worlds before ultimately ending in tragedy.

(concered, in disbelief) Why can't we? Lady, you know exactly why we can't! You know exactly what happens if somebody from town walks through those trees and finds us out here together!
(hopeful) And when people come to see it, it's going to change everything. We can use that money to move. Get a nice, big house somewhere far away from these woods. Somewhere safe. And we won't have to keep sneaking around and meeting in secret anymore.
(upset) What are we doing, Celeste? If you're staying here, and I'm... What is this. What's the point of any of it.
Celeste's Village Leader. She is one of a small handful of women to hold the title of "Granny" raised and groomed for this absolute authority. She is stern, bold, and fiercely fair. In her village, the traditional family unit has been abolished. Biological parents are separated from their children, and Granny serves as the sole maternal figure for the entire community. This extreme communal upbringing has a singular purpose, to completely erase parental attachment. When the "promised day" arrives and lives must be sacrificed, the village ensures that no mother or father will suffer the agony of grieving their own child.

(stern) it) No. You were somewhere else entirely, weren't you?
(addressing everyone within earshot) The signs don't wait on our convenience, child. I'm calling the whole village to the pavilion. There's a great deal to prepare, and not the time we'd like to do it in.
And whatever the two of you had planned for today- Cancel it. All of it. Whatever any of you had planned. Nothing matters more than this Crossing festival.
The Past: A young man raised in the same village as Celeste. There is nothing inherently special about him, he is hardworking, has a good head on his shoulders, and has a massive crush on Celeste. His jealousy when he finds out she has feelings for someone else leaves him doing something he’ll regret for the rest of his life.
100 Years Later: Now a vassal to something else. Something that fell from the stars has taken over his mind, body, and soul, leaving him to witness everything while utterly powerless to stop what his body is willed to do.

(sheepish) Well... it's you. You've always got somewhere to be. Or you're already gone before anyone can ask. Which is kind of why I'm asking now... A few of us are heading out to the lake later. Swim, cool off before the heat really sets in. You should come. It'd be nice to have you. If you want.
100 Years Later: (conversational) Let me tell you something. People are hard to come by out here James. People who actually fight back... Years. So you'll forgive us for dragging this out.
100 Years Later: (devilish) But it's not just entertainment. What you're feeling right now. The fear. The exhaustion. The not knowing.
***Content Note: Chud's storyline deals directly with themes of racism and prejudice. Actors must be comfortable portraying a character who embodies, benefits from, and perpetuates a racially hostile environment.***
The Past: A young white man raised in a small, deeply prejudiced town that has taught him the world is owed to him. He operates with unchecked privilege, completely insulated by the town's systemic racism, and feels instantly threatened by anyone who challenges his status.
100 Years Later: Now a vassal to something else. Something that fell from the stars has taken over his mind, body, and soul, leaving him to witness everything while utterly powerless to stop what his body is willed to do.

(smirking) You're a long way from your side of town, Cyrus. You think just because you've got that fancy little camera, you can walk around here like you actually belong? You don't. And you never will
100 Years Later: (intimate, breathing heavily) I like you. I actually really like you, James! (gritting his teeth fighting the pain) I truly, truly like you. I think I love you.
100 Years Later: (absolute fury) Do you know what it is to be perceived and not known?! To have disgusting, pathetic cancers of Terra look upon us, and see nothing?!
A cosmic entity older than time itself that fell from the stars ages ago. Once held in glory and revered as a god, it has been reduced to a sad, lonely speck of its former self. Driven by a desperate need to build a ladder back into heaven, it feeds on mortal creatures it views as vastly inferior. Beneath its terrifying presence and its bitter, vitriolic hatred for "the lady" who thwarted its ascension back to god hood. It's deepest, most tragic truth is it's profoundly and overwhelmingly lonely.

(whispering, intimate) We're so lonely James...we are so lonely. We were so close. So close to climbing back to the kingdom of heaven...and our designs were ruined. Everything we built to climb back up…stopped by that bitch and her sanctuary.
(gentle) Ohh... sweet, sweet boy. Breathe, child. The instrument of that foul deity nearly bound your soul to the cold... and yet here you stand
(soft, reverent) You shouldn't be. And yet. A miracle. A beautiful, impossible little miracle. Seek refuge in my embrace instead, sweet child. Come to me...
