LGBT PROJECT FOR PRIDE MONTH 2019, AUDIO DRAMA: "Once Upon A Time With Me"

Project Overview

Let's get one thing straight about this fairy tale...most of the cast isn't.

Terpsichore, a musically gifted maiden girl, wonders what life has to offer for a mere servant girl like herself other than spending her days scrubbing floors and dusting the royal palace. Her only friends are her fraternal twin brother Ronne and their childhood pal Alister, everyone else ignores her with the exception of Prince Rotem, who is hands down the biggest bully and brute in the kingdom of Steocotor.

One day, it is announced that the monarchs of Britesta, a neighboring kingdom, are searching for the perfect suitor for their daughter and heir, Princess Menaka. Terpsichore nor Menaka never believed in love at first sight until now, as they both fall head over heels for each other...but, of course, Menaka's family is searching for a royal man for her to marry. Who else but his royal ass Rotem to be selected to be a potential husband for her.

With the help of Ronne, Alister, and a few friends they make along the way, Terpsichore and Menaka are determined to be together despite the opposing views of the monarchs. In hopes of attempting to thwart any suspicions, Terpsichore disguises herself as a man and presents herself as a prince from a faraway land. Can she get her fair lady's hand in marriage? Or will her act be uncovered and suffer more than a broken heart?


Hiya, guys! Long time no see!

 So, I bet you guys are wondering what this is all about. First of all, relax, Hollow Earth is still happening, I just wanted to do something fun and sweet for pride month this year. Plus, I nabbed a part in a local production by our theater company and ended up inspired :'D

So, here we are! This project will be an AUDIO DRAMA, presented with art depicting the scenes as opposed to being fully animated. I've always wanted to try my hand at that sort of thing, y'know? Plus, I have neither the time or experience to make a 30+ minute animation myself ^^; Sorry! Perhaps one day~

So, it's all pretty simple: audition, try your best, speak with emotion, and have fun! You'll be notified if you get the part, and I will need a discord contact! I will make a group chat while folks are auditioning, and we'll all meet up and get to know each other there!~ We'll have a grand time. I am to get this project done SOMETIME during June, probably towards the middle or end of the month, but auditions will be up long enough for everyone to have a good chance!

    Hey guys! This casting call is now officially CLOSED. Thank you all for stepping up to the plate and auditioning for this little project of mine, it's gonna be super fun!     Howdy y'all! Dawn here. Wow, the outcome for this project has been absolutely fantastic! I'm absolutely floored by all the interest and auditions this project has gotten in the past two weeks, it excites me and positively warms my heart! <3 The casting results shall be announced on Wednesday, May 22.   • Extended Deadline

    Hiya guys! I wasn't aware that I posted the deadline for auditions as today (5/14), so I extended them to this Saturday (5/18) so some folks can have more time! "Terpsi" is pronounced as it looks, as does "Chaitan". 

The protagonist of the story.  A servant girl that is pretty low in the pecking order, Terpsi loves life but can't help but wonder what other opportunities can come her way despite her unsavory status as a peasant worker. She is kind, poetic, thoughtful, and artful, thought she can be doubtful of her own abilities at times and grapples with a sense of inferiority and loneliness. She falls hard and fast for Menaka and is willing to risk everything in order to save her from what would be a miserable marriage to Rotem. 

Terpsichore is around the ages of 18 - 23, Caucasian,  and rather androgynous in appearance, which helps her get away with her cover as a prince. She has a notable musical talent, as she lives up to her namesake of being named after the Greek muse of chorus and dance.  (Singers are preferable, please provide a sample if you don't mind.)

  • "I hate to be the one that complains, but enough is enough. Helping people is one thing, sure, no problem, but I am not an old rug to be spat on. I want to move on, I want to move /up/, I want to see the world beyond these cold stone walls and the acquiescent village that is hush-hush about- (Looks around to make sure no one else is listening.) the utter /bullshit/ that our beloved rulers spew like overflowing ale. Give me hope, give me liberation, give me the world! I'll take the gifts life has to offer in the cities and the countrysides and cherish them, for my heart will flow with the warmth of the sun and the - and the - (She sneezes, quite forcibly, and propels herself backwards into a cabinet. A small vase nearly topples down, she yelps in alarm and swiftly catches it. She sheepishly puts it back, then looks up at the sky with her hands up.) Okay, you're clearly trying to tell me something, I'm done monologuing. Yeesh, so much for catching up on my delivery skills..." (Another pot falls and breaks over her head, leaving her with an annoyed "why does God hate me" look on her face.)

  • "My fair Menaka, I promise you with the perseverance of my soul that we can convince your parents and my own royal Majesties to allow us to be wed. ("How?") I live among actors, thieves, and seamstresses, and if I must say so myself, the three are quite an interesting combination of forces."

  • (Displaying as Prince Chaitan, putting on a false masculine voice.) "I present myself to His and Her Majesties of our visiting ally. I wish to provide my services and display my abilities in hopes I shall be granted the honor of courting the princess. Join me, dear Menaka. (Normally, in a whisper.) I'm going to wet myself. ("Just relax, you're doing great.") I have an anxiety problem, you can't just tell me to relax!"

The princess of Britesta who is to be wed to whatever prince her parents deem fit, something she greatly disagrees with.  She wishes to break her conservative kingdom's tradition and marry whoever she wishes, and her wish eventually reveals itself to be Terpsichore, a meek maiden girl who won her over faster than she could have ever imagined.

Menaka is headstrong, clever, opinionated, and fierce. She stands up for what she believes in, and while she has a sharp tongue and a quick wit, she's nowhere near as curt as she appears to be.

She is of Asian descent, tall, and carries herself very regally in the public eye. 

  • (Dryly.) "...Charmed. Mother, daddy, I'm going to my chambers now, if you don't mind. I'm feeling quite tired after the voyage here and this is...(Looking nauseously at Rotem.) quite a bit to take in. I believe I'm going to retire for the night."

  • (Annoyed as all hell with the stupid frilly dress she was shoved into.) "I can't breathe in this thing! Damned ball, damned princes, damned affiances- (The dress rips, she releases an exhausted breath.) Thank you, Lord. (Growls.) I swear my hand to the almighty presences above me that I will NEVER, and I mean NEVER, let anyone with such ROUGH hands close to my bosom ever again. (Terpsi appears in her prince attire.)...Though I am willing to make some exceptions."

  • (Tenderly.) "Terpsichore...after the goddess of dance and choir, 'delight in dance'. (Giggles.) What a divine tune you can carry. I'm so sorry for my impoliteness earlier, I was rather tired and - if I must be honest - very unimpressed with this nation's selection for me. But now...I believe I'm seeing a bit more clearly."

Terpsichore's fraternal twin brother. A successful angler, but living in the same low-income situation his sister is in. He took up most managing after the deaths of their parents, but still struggles along with Terpsi all the same. The siblings' relationship is very close and very protective despite their funk, as they pledge stick together through thick and thin, with things running pretty thin nowadays. Like Terpsi, he just wishes to have a happy, stable life.

Ronne is caring, determined, a bit stubborn, and insightful.  He's a pretty upstanding guy, outspoken about what he feels is right and wrong, and protective of those he loves.

  • (Angrily.) "Look here, Prince Scrotum, lay a finger on my sister again and you'll be sorry. Funny how you claim people lower in rank than you are degenerative dolts when it's a miracle you know how to wipe your own ass." 

  • "Alister, come on. Look., I know you're trying to help, and you know we're infinitely grateful for you, but...(Sighs.) You know how hard it's been for us since mom and dad passed away. I'm lucky to have the angling job I do now, but poor Terpsi...if I were in her position, I'd want more out of life than to clean after a bunch of uppity highbrows who think they can treat their commonfolk like garbage."

"Alister" is pronounced as is appears.

Terpsichore and Ronne's best friend, a witty and friendly guy from a more decent part of town that enjoys spending most of his time with them. A skilled craftsman and the son of a blacksmith, Alister is quite gifted in the art of making things and is rather strategic in grander schemes. All in all, he's a cool dude that just wants to help his friends out and keep their spirits up.

Alister is in his early twenties, black, and has a pretty laid back personality about him. He's clever and constructive, and as stated above, a good guy that just wants to make his friends happy. 

  • "Sign here, please. ("What are you doing, Al?") I made that uniform. If you get killed in it, I'm gonna need your signature for any compensation I owe your brother. ("What?!") Look, they advertise it all the time, and I wanna help you woo this chick as much as Ronne does, because poor whats-her-face will be ready to commit treason to get away from Rotem. I think you're panicking a bit too much."

  • *Chuckling nervously.) "Well, this is unfortunate. Hello, gentlemen,  this probably looks a lot worse than it actually is. But we're all adults here, right? So let's keep things civil, calm down a little bit, and communicate our concerns in a reasonable, professional manner- (Gilligan's cut,; he, Ronne, and Terpsi have been hurled into a prison cell. In great pain.) I forgot, our monarchs are borderline authoritarians."

  • "Steocotorian government, guys, gals, and other identifying pals. Three-thousand years in the aching."

"Rotem" is pronounced as it looks.

The haughty, arrogant prince of Steoctor. As stated above, he's a self-absorbed jerk who shits on anyone he deems lower than himself. Large ham, cocky asshole, doesn't like the fact that there's a rival "prince" hitting on the princess he feels entitled to. Very punchable.

Rotem is muscular,  Caucasian, and unfortunately good-looking in contrast to his ugly personality.

  • "How could she /not/ want this? I come from a long line of excellent breeders that produce only the /strongest/ and most /masculine/ heirs to any throne! (He elbows Terpsichore in the eye.) Let's face the facts: she's beautiful, I'm beautiful, we both know what we're doing, and we'll be able to make some magic happen. I'm her only option, really."


  • "Vonate, huh? Never heard of it. But that doesn't really matter, I don't know what that guy's up to, but I don't think I like him. I thought I was the only suitor left for the potential of having Meneka's hand. (Bitterly, almost snarling.) Dueling is still a thing, right?"
