Starting a band! | let’s Make and Release Original Songs
Project Overview
Hi, I’m Aishi! I previously worked as a freelance songwriter on Fiverr, where I wrote songs for other people. I eventually stopped because it became difficult to stand out among so many other talented freelancers. After discussing my future plans with my family, I started thinking: why not take things further and create something of my own?
That’s why I would love to form a small, creative band focused on making and releasing original Japanese-inspired songs. Our music would mainly be in English, with the possibility of including some Japanese lyrics or phrases, not entirely in Japanese.
I usually write songs in English, have experience with vocal coaching, and can play a few instruments, so I’ll be able to support the group in several ways. I’m also currently singing one of my own songs as a duet. I would love to work with a co-writer and other musicians who can bring fresh ideas, different skills, and their own personality to the music.
Most importantly, I hope to find the right people and build a positive, energetic group where everyone feels comfortable sharing ideas. I want us to have fun, get to know one another, improve together, and hopefully grow into something amazing as a band!
Helps the group create songs inspired by J-pop, including songs that combine English and Japanese or are written primarily in Japanese.
I will often provide the main concept, story, melody, or English lyrics. Your role will be to help write or adapt the sections that need to be in Japanese while keeping the original emotion, meaning, rhythm, and musical flow. You may also suggest Japanese phrases, cultural references, melodies, themes, and lyrical ideas that feel natural and respectful.
Preferred qualifications
Japanese proficiency around JLPT N2 or higher
N3–N4 applicants may still be considered if they demonstrate strong creative writing and an ability to produce natural Japanese lyrics
A good understanding of J-pop songwriting and bilingual song structures
Comfortable collaborating on lyrics originally written in English
Able to explain translation or adaptation choices in English
What to submit
Please submit a Japanese verse and chorus, either from an existing original song or written specifically for this application.
Your submission should ideally include:
The lyrics in Japanese
A romaji version
An English translation or explanation of the meaning
A brief explanation of any wordplay, cultural references, or changes made for rhythm and melody
An example of adapting English lyrics into Japanese, if available
An optional rough vocal demo; polished production is not required
A verse and chorus are enough to apply. However, you’re welcome to submit a complete original lyric or demo if you feel it represents your abilities better. More complete submissions may help us understand your writing style, creativity, and suitability for the role, but quality is more important than length.
All submitted work must be your own. Please clearly identify whether the lyrics are entirely original or adapted from an English draft.

We’re looking for vocalists who enjoy J-pop and are passionate about singing!
There’s no gender or vocal range requirement. We’d love to have different kinds of voices in the group, since every song may need something different. Depending on the song, vocalists can switch leads, share verses, sing harmonies or perform duets.
For your application, please send us a recording of you singing. We’d especially like to hear a cover of a J-pop song, but you can include other songs if they show your voice better. The recording doesn’t need to be professionally made, a clear phone recording is fine.
You can also tell us a little about yourself, the music you enjoy and any singing experience you have. Experience isn’t required, though. We mainly want to hear your voice and see your passion for singing!
Please don’t submit AI-generated or cloned vocals. We want to hear your real voice. Light effects are okay, but please include at least one recording that is mostly unedited.

Just sing your favourite songs!

Turns our song ideas, lyrics, melodies, and rough demos into complete tracks by creating instrumentals, arrangements, chord progressions, and an overall sound inspired by J-pop.
We’re looking for someone who understands the energetic and expressive qualities commonly found in J-pop, such as detailed arrangements, interesting chord movement, memorable melodies, vocal layering, dynamic transitions, and the blending of pop with genres such as rock, electronic, orchestral, funk, or R&B.
Depending on the project, you may:
Build an instrumental around a vocal melody or rough demo
Develop chord progressions and supporting melodies
Arrange verses, pre-choruses, choruses, bridges, and transitions
Help shape the song’s energy and emotional progression
Suggest changes that make the writing feel more authentic to J-pop
Program or record instruments
Prepare organized stems for mixing and mastering
Collaborate with the songwriters and Japanese lyric co-writer
What to submit?
Please send one or more examples of music you have produced or arranged. At least one example should demonstrate your ability to create a J-pop-inspired sound.
Your application may include:
A completed original production
An instrumental or arrangement
A before-and-after example showing how you developed a rough demo
A short explanation of your creative and technical contributions
A list of the software, instruments, and equipment you use
Any experience working remotely with vocalists or songwriters
Please clearly state which parts of each submission you personally created. Rough demos are welcome if they accurately demonstrate your musical ideas and production abilities.
We value strong arrangement choices, creativity, communication, and emotional understanding more than expensive equipment or perfectly polished mastering.

We’re looking for someone who can mix and master our songs and help us create a clean, polished sound.
If you have previous work, we’d love to hear it! Before-and-after examples would be especially useful, but regular finished mixes are also welcome. Please let us know what parts you worked on and what software you use.
If you don’t have anything suitable to show, feel free to contact me. I can send you a short section of one of our raw demos to mix as an application sample. Any material I send must remain private and cannot be shared, uploaded, or used in a portfolio without permission.
Please submit work that you mixed or mastered yourself. We are not accepting AI-generated mixes, AI mastering, or examples that misrepresent your own skills.
You don’t need expensive equipment or years of professional studio experience. We mainly want to hear your mixing choices, attention to detail, and ability to work well with the sound of the group.
