Before the End
Project Overview
Hey everyone! This casting is for my student animated film in my last year of high school! I am aiming to get into the top films in my state, and would love to work together with talented voice actors of any experience!
All roles are in the English language. It does not matter what your accent is, however, as an Australian, I'd love to support amateur Australian voice actors if there are any interested!
FILM OVERVIEW
This casting call is for my short student animated film 'Before The End', a sci-fi dystopian short exploring the effects of climate change on a futuristic Earth. After Earth is rendered uninhabitable due to climate change, the richer members of society escape on rocket ships. My film focuses on a lower class family who's father is in the military, and their struggle to gain tickets onto the last ship due to their lack of wealth.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
I am the sole director of this film, so you'll be communicating with me about any inquiries :). This is my first project on casting call club, so I'm still learning some of the platform! Most of the communication will be done on instagram; however, if needed I can download discord and do it there, in order for all voice actors to be able to communicate!
WHAT I ASK OF YOU:
Seriously, have fun! This is a student film, I just want to give all of us experience creating an animated film, including myself!
Please try to minimise background noise in your recordings; while I don't mind what mic or software you use, I simply need the audio to be clear :)
You may take multiple takes if you can't decide on one; I'll simply take the one you are happiest with!
You will likely need to submit your recordings as a .wav file to my personal email, which I will provide after casting!
Thank you so much for helping me with this project!

Protagonist!
Design: A.K facial expressions concept art
I would need an actor whose voice can appear younger, it might have to be a girl pretending to be a boy. While I am unsure of what accent A.K would have, his voice would be anxious and almost angry; he is trapped in a horrible situation despite his young age, and is forced to understand the world from this perspective.
A.K is a 10 year old boy living in a world where climate change has doomed Earth. As the richest members of society leave on space ships, his father joins the military to ensure them a place on the escape ships despite their poverty. However, due to his low rank he is not allowed to take his family. The film follows A.K's struggle as his father is unable to get him tickets onto a spaceship and he is ultimately left behind with his mother, forced to survive on a ruined Earth. A.K's character represents the endangerment of future generations due to the lack of protection of Earth's climate; he is a tragic character and should be voice acted with this in mine.

I don't yet have a voice actor. While I’m unsure of his accent, it would be the same as A.K’s. I envision his voice to be gruff, cold and professional; he is a military soldier. While he carries a professional demeanor, he becomes far more emotional near end of the film; actors must be able to break this cold manner.
38 year old man, father of A.K, husband of Manon. He joins the military as a guard around the escape ships as he is promised entry onto the ship on the basis of military status (he cannot otherwise afford it). What he doesn’t know that, due to his low rank, his family is not guaranteed free entry with him. When he is unable to secure his family's safety, everything falls apart.

Character Design:
I envision Manon to be French (however any other accent is fine!!). She would have a strong voice with a lot of intention behind every word; she is a highly intelligent woman. She is a 35 year old woman, meaning she should sound mature.
Manon is a struggling activist author whose idealistic view of the world is thwarted by the reality of climate destruction. She is the wife of Samuel and lives in constant horror at the degradation of the world around her. Throughout much of the film, she feels helpless for the future of her son, A.K.

The ticketmaster is a sly, proffessional man. When he speaks he sounds uncaring and disinterested, with a slight cheeky tone to his voice. However, he also has moments of empathy, which the voice actor will need to be able to capture.
The Ticketmaster is a 34 year old man. He is a government worker who mans the ticket booths that sell tickets for the last spaceship to leave Earth. It is up to him to decide who is allowed onto the ship, though these choices are largely governed by the presence of military guards who constantly ensure he is adhering to the law. He lives under the constant control of the government, who pressure him into making harmful decisions about people's fates.
