L'Empereur: Peace in Our Time
Project Overview
L'Empereur: Peace in Our Time is a pseudo-documentary video series to explain the alternate history lore behind L'Empereur: A Hearts of Iron IV Mod in a fun and informative manner, inspired in a similar style to the Batman Fan Documentary Batman 1919-1939 by The Batfeed on YouTube based on the book of the same name by GiantPandaKing. This is an official project from the mod team which we plan to post on YouTube for both fun and to advertise the mod.
The premise of the mod is that France won the Franco-Prussian War, but later lost the Great War which will be covered in the first video (There's a quick explanation of it in the video above). This will delve into a lot of alternate history of the mod's version of Earth before, during, and after the Great War as well as later conflicts taking place in the mod itself.

Cassander "Andy" Prescott is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and author. He is devoted to speaking truth to power, educating the public, and trying to create a better world. He is in his mid to late 60s, he was born and raised in New Orleans which his accent should reflect. He is calm, but passionate, is very down to earth, and speaks with gravitas. The dialogue should generally be delivered in the same way that a history channel narrator would. This role would be a long-term commitment for the project as the intent is to make a series detailing many events and nations within the mod's alternate history.
Narrator: Over the course of five years and over 20 million dead, Europe was at peace once more. The Entente of France, Russia, and Spain had been crushed by the combined forces of Prussia, Austria-Hungary, Italy, Portugal, and Britain. A treaty was signed dividing the once-mighty empires of the Romanovs and the Bonapartes. To the victor belong the spoils yet little did those great nations know how spoiled their prize was, but before we discuss the events leading into what caused the later wars of the 30s and 40s, we must first discuss how the First Great War, the World War came to be.
Narrator: On July 16th, 1870. The Corps législatif, the Parliament of France declared war on the North German Confederation and invaded German lands on August 2nd. They faced a foe with great numbers and leadership, but in spite of the odds, France won victory after victory against the Germans. The reforms made under Marshal Adolphe Niel’s leadership paid off and providence seemed to be on their side.
Narrator: Dogger Bank, The Night of May 21st, 1916. The R.M.S. Aquitania is transporting 2,973 souls aboard from Scarborough to the Port of Zeebrugge, traveling along the quiet waters of the North Sea en route to the British Expeditionary Force stationed on the Franco-Belgian border. Young men drink and sing songs while waiting to start their service in Belgium. For them, it was an adventure. Get to see the continent, drink good beer with pretty girls and watch the other powers fight it out from the comfort of their base. What they didn’t know was that while they were celebrating their new post, the Russian gunboat Khrabryy (Храбрый/pronounced Krah-bree) was aiming at their hull.
Bismarck Recording (1889) This is intended to be an old recording of Otto Von Bismarck made in the 1880s. Based on an irl recording of him as linked here. The first line is what will be actually used and the second is what he said in English in the recording. In the first line, he is justifying the decisions he made in the Franco-Prussian War by saying that while he failed on that occasion, history shall vindicate him. This role would be for the first video with the possibility of reoccurring if Bismarck's voice is needed again.
Bismarck: The War was not an immediate success, but it was a success nonetheless as we Germans, while disunited in polity, are united in enmity of the French. Mark my words, Europe shall not know peace until Germany is united once more.
Bismarck: In good old colony times, When we lived under the King, Three roguish chaps fell into mishaps, because they could not sing.
William Dorsey is a veteran of the Great War and is retelling the events that led to Britain's involvement in this timeline's version of events after the sinking of a military transport ship which Dorsey was a survivor on in an alternate 1967 as part of a version of the game show "I've Got A Secret". He is from Liverpool and should have an English accent accurate to that region. The dialogue regarding the events that occurred should have weight to them, not overly emotional as this happened many decades ago, but clearly still a moment he can recall vividly with sadness.
Pvt. William Dorsey: I'm William J. Dorsey and I'm from Liverpool, England. I'm 71 years old.
Pvt. William Dorsey: I was a private in his Majesty's Royal Army during the Great War onboard the R.M.S. Aquitania.
Pvt. William Dorsey: I was playing cards with my mates, having a laugh, gambling for some sailor’s rum ration when a large boom echoed throughout accommodation. I turned my head when the explosion hit so I turned my head to the source of the noise and I saw the bodies of men torn apart, sprawled all over the deck and walls.
We are looking for someone who can score the series and provide it with a theme for the title sequence.
