Kingdom Hearts Animatic Project (March Caprice 2022)

Project Overview

We are looking for voice actors for an animatic of a hypothetical pilot episode of a Kingdom Hearts animated series that retells the story of the games. For those familiar with the original story, the first episode runs from the beginning of the game to Riku's awakening in Hollow Bastion. 

Currently casting for the three main roles (Sora, Kairi, and Riku). Since this is based on an existing property, accuracy to the original voices is encouraged (but not required--if you feel comfortable with creating a fresh take on these characters, go for it). 

This project is planned to be released for March Caprice 2022. For more info about the March Caprice event, check out https://www.marchcaprice.com/.

Audition lines are taken from the script of the animatic. 

REQUIREMENTS (Please read):

  •  Use a decent microphone (USB or XLR--no phone microphones) with as little background noise as possible.
  • Have a Discord account and leave your username along with your audition.
  • Be able to meet deadlines! Since this is for a specific event, the project MUST be finished by a certain date. 
  • Have fun!

  • And that's a wrap!

    Thank you so much to everyone who showed support for this project by auditioning--needless to say, we received way more submissions than expected. Narrowing it down was unbelievably tough. So many of you are more than talented enough for these roles and I wish there was a way for me to cast all of you, but alas, it cannot be so. That being said, depending on how this animatic goes, we might continue making more of this series in the future--I hope all of you will consider auditioning again when that time comes!   • Update and Deadline Change

    Hey everyone! First of all, thank you so much for auditioning! I was definitely not expecting this much attention on the project, especially from so many incredibly talented people. I haven't had time to leave feedback on the auditions, but please know that I've been listening to all of them. I can already tell that casting is going to be difficult--you guys are making me wish we were casting for more than just three roles! Second, because of the amount of auditions we've received, I've decided to move the deadline for auditions up. THE NEW DEADLINE IS JANUARY 21, one week from today. I hope to have casting decisions made by the 22nd. If anything comes up to hinder that, I'll post another update and let you know. Thanks again for your auditions!   • I've been having these weird thoughts lately. Like... is any of this for real? Or not?

  • Sorry. I just... had this really weird dream. (speaking quickly) There were these weird stained-glass panels that I was standing on, and they kept breaking--and then this huge black thing swallowed me up, I couldn't breathe, I couldn't move--and there was this voice--(gets cut off)

  • (slowly coming to a realization) Wait, you don't sound like anyone I know... Where did you come from? Are you... from another world?

Riku is the deuteragonist/antagonist of the first Kingdom Hearts game. He's 15 years old, a bit of a know-it-all at times, with a heart that longs for adventure. He cares about Sora and Kairi deeply, but he doesn't always know how to show it.

  • (playfully taunting) Giving up already? Come on, Sora, I thought you were stronger than that.

  • (hesitant, musing) When I was little, my dad told me this... story. Apparently, there was a kid who used to live here on the islands. He was always talking about going off to other worlds. And then one day, he just... disappeared. Everyone else on the island treated it like he died. But I don't think so. And I've always thought that, if he found a way to another world, why can't we?

  • (exhilarated) Once we step through, we might not be able to come back. We might never see our families again. No turning back. But this could be our only chance. We can't let fear stop us. I'm not afraid of the darkness!

Kairi, 14, is one of the deuteragonists of the Kingdom Hearts series. She's spunky and enjoys gently teasing both of the boys, but she has a softer side that comes out when more serious subjects arise.

  • (gently teasing) I knew I'd find you snoozing down here. Lazy bum. 

  • I read a legend about it. It's called a... Wayfinder, I think? Apparently, if you and your friends each have one, you'll always be able to find your way back to each other, even when you're apart. According to the story, it was made to reflect the magic of the paopu fruit. An unbreakable connection between friends. 

  • (slightly worried) I can't stop thinking about everything that could go wrong tomorrow... (with sudden resolve) But not anymore. I'll be strong for you guys. Besides, no matter what happens, this place will always be home, right?
