King Kong Audio Drama

King Kong Audio Drama

Project Overview

I've written a fanfiction for King Kong, 2005 version and we are going to turn that into an audio recording!

Summary: Brieanna "Brie" Adams is a huge fan of King Kong in all its forms! She is by far the biggest fangirl for it, and Jamie Bell as Jimmy is a huge plus!

So when she gets thrown into the movie, it all seems like a dream come true!  As she goes through the story, she makes sure that everything stays the same as much as possible so her added presence doesn't ruin anything.

When she and Ann meet Carl Denham, she manages to get onto the ship with Ann as part of his movie.  While on the ship, she meets Jimmy and becomes good friends with him.  Eventually, she and Jimmy begin to develop feelings for each other and share a romantic kiss.

As they arrive onto the mysterious Skull Island, Brie starts freaking out, knowing everything that's supposed to happen.

Everything goes as planned....until the natives kidnap her.  Not Ann.  Now Brie must fight for her survival if she wants to get out of the movie and get home.

But is home really what she wants?

Carl's assistant; does whatever Carl asks, but later realizes that Carl is taking everything too far; usually very jumpy and nervous; medium-high voice

  • (hurriedly) Uh, why don’t I show Miss Darrow and Miss Adams to their cabins?

  • Hi, my name is Preston. I'm Carl's assistant.

  • Isn't that one of Maureen's costumes?

an egotistical film director willing to do ANYTHING to get his name out there; very eccentric

  • Anyway, Ann, may I call you Ann? And Brieanna? Either of you wouldn’t happen to be a size four by any chance, would you? Oh, no! You’ve got me all wrong! Miss Darrow, Miss Adams, please! I’m not that type of person at all! I’m someone you can trust, I’m a movie producer!

  • Brie, you're a splendid actress! I need to start using you for more scenes!

  • (giving directions; calm) You’re feeling uneasy, Ann. You don’t feel it yet, Brie. The feeling’s growing, washing over you. You’re trembling, Ann. Brie, you notice her uneasiness and start to feel uneasy yourself. Look up slowly, girls. You can’t look away. It scares you. You’re both helpless. You want to scream, but your throats are paralyzed…There’s just once chance. If you can scream…Try to scream, girls, try. (still calm) Grab each other and scream. (now shouting) Scream, girls! Scream for your life!

  • Look, Miss, I told you already. Call my office, leave your resume with my secretary.

  • Ugh, you don’t give up, do you?

  • I know times are tough. You want my advice? Use what you got. You both aren’t bad-looking. Girls like you don’t have to starve.

very attractive young man, probably around nineteen; medium-low voice; very harsh past that no one knows except him; falls in love with Brie

  • (he has accidently dropped a net on Brie) I’m so sorry, miss! I didn’t see you! I was just trying to help the crew by letting down the net, but I threw it without looking!

  • (after Brie tells him she's scared) I know what it’s like. You feel like you’ve been socked in the stomach and you can’t breathe. You know you have to, but it’s like your brain has forgotten how. (pause) It’s how I felt when I was home.  I was fifteen when I came on this ship. My arm was broken in two places and I stowed away in one of the cages. I was sick and thin and starved. Mr. Hayes took me in and gave me a job, which was more than I ever wanted. My whole life is on this ship. I’m never going back to where I was. This is my home. (looks at Brie) I know exactly how you feel.  But you don’t have to feel that way. Not here. Not with me.

  • Jack, Brie’s still out there. I know she’s still out there. We have to find her. If it was Ann out there, wouldn’t you do everything in your power to go find her? (J: Alright, you go back with the others and I’ll go and find her.) No. I’m coming with you. (J: It’s too dangerous, Jimmy!)  I don’t care! I want to get Brie back!

As the story is in first person, Brie also serves as the narrator so the role is very dialogue heavy. Looking for a medium-high, young adult voice. Can also be kind of sarcastic and witty. Play around with it.

  • When I was younger, I had always wished to my core that I was Ann and got to be taken away by Kong (although I’m not sure why…). But as I got older, I realized just how violent the whole thing was and that I would never be able to survive on the island. At least the 1933 version, while the story was weaker, wasn’t violent at all just because it was so old.  Okay, don’t panic, I thought. In every fanfiction I’d ever read where a character gets thrown into the story, once the movie ends, they get sent back. So all I had to do was make it to the end without majorly screwing up the plot. Or dying.

  • I saw Jimmy push past me to get something and then move on. Oh my gosh! Jimmy actually touched me and spoke to me! That was a step in the right direction!

  • (as they try to capture Kong) No! (J: He’ll kill you, Brie!) No, he won’t! He’s protected me from everything on this island! Now I need to protect him!  Let go of me.  No, don’t!  Stop! Please Jimmy! (J: I don’t want to lose you too!) You won’t! He just wants me back! That’s all! I can stop all of this!  Please stop! (E: Get out of his sight!) Don’t hurt him! He just wants me! Just let me go to him! (quietly; tearfully to Kong) I'm so sorry. I didn’t want this to happen.

Narrator for parts outside of Brie's point of view

  • A wave crashed over him and he fell over onto the deck. That was when he saw it: a native’s necklace. The sight of it made his stomach lurch. He tried to run to Brie’s cabin to make sure she was safe. People kept blocking the already very cramped hallway and he couldn’t get to her fast enough.

  • Jimmy watched in horror as a huge gorilla swept Mr. Hayes up in his huge hand. Jimmy stared at the creature. That had to be what had taken Brie! But if that thing was here, where was she? He didn’t have time to think about that as Kong threw Mr. Hayes at the wall of the ravine. Jimmy watched his father figure lose his life before his eyes. He sank down onto the log in despair, screaming over and over again. The gorilla started to overturn the log and it didn’t take long for the whole party to end up at the bottom of the ravine. Jimmy hit his head and began to black out. His last thoughts were of Brie.

young woman working vaudeville and trying to earn a living; looks after Brie and is like a big sister to her; medium-low voice; very independant

  • I may be out of a job now, Brie, but I’d like to keep my dignity too, and I’ll lose it quick if I even step foot in there.

  • I just saw Mr. Driscoll in the hallway on my way to the bathroom.  He was nice, I guess, especially since he hasn’t talked to me since I mistook him for someone else. In fact, it almost seemed like he was…flirting. (B: Not to crush your spirits, but don’t look too much into it right now. There’s only the two of us on this ship, and these guys’ hormones are probably raging.) I think you’re right, Brie. (a pause, then she smiles) But it’s kind of fun to think about.

  • Brie, talk to me. What’s wrong? You always stay in here and you’re barely eating anything. I’m worried about you. What happened on that island?

Medium-low voice; in love with Ann; very mellow and easy-going

  • Thanks, but I haven’t got time to talk. I’m late for rehearsal. (as Brie keeps interrupting him) Thanks, but— Yes, and— I’m sorry to hear that. Now if you’ll excuse me— Fine. Now I’ve really got to— No! Now I have to— (ship horn blasts) Oh, no.

  • (dryly) Nice to meet you too, Miss Darrow

  • (sighs) Alright, you go back with the others and I’ll go and find her. (J: No. I’m coming with you.) It’s too dangerous, Jimmy!

Jimmy's father figure who mentors him while on the ship; realizes that he has feelings for Brie. Deep voice.

  • He’s been on this ship for nearly five years. Though he sometimes causes trouble, he’s usually very helpful.

  • I’ve seen the way he looks at you. You’ve definitely caught his eye.

  • I can only give him so much. You have something to offer him that I never can. The love from a woman that he never got from his mother.

  • So are you ready for this voyage? Nervous? It isn’t every woman who would take such a risk.

  • Get out of his sight!!

  • (harshly) Brieanna! What are you doing down here? He doesn’t need you. He’s knocked out.
