Keyhole: Season One

This is the casting call for season one of Keyhole, a fantasy/military audio drama. Thank you for your interest in my project!
PODCAST OVERVIEW
"Keyhole" is set the present day and involves a group of Canadian soldiers defending the world from a force of invading militaristic mermaids, arriving on Earth via wormholes called "keyholes". Season one starts on Sable Island as the plane of Lieutenants Grace Booth and Nathalie Mulroney crashes on the island and they discover that it has been occupied. They find allies in the form of Captain McQueen and Emma and they manage to escape to the mainland by the skin of their teeth. Of course, when they do, no one believes them.
PAYMENT
Payment is a $10 USD fee for set up and $0.25 USD per line after that. Payment is send out using Interac eTransfer for Canadians and PayPal for international VAs.
REGARDING UNIONS
I am more than willing to accept auditions from unionized actors. However, but be aware that this is a hobbyist project, thus depending on the role, the payment I'm offering may be below what your union considers fair. Please review your union's rules about compensation before auditioning.
DEADLINE
The deadline is July 1st at 12:00 AM EDT. If you're cast in a role, you'll have until September 1st to deliver your lines. All of the four episodes' scripts will be assigned at once.

I'm Bruce Belanger and I publish my creative works under the name Naval Maple Media. I take great pride in all my work and I hope you are able to join me for the latest adventure!

Fighter pilot, second-in-command of the RCAF's Thorn Squadron, and Grace's superior officer. He is twenty five years old and comes from Alberta. His command style generally chill and hands off, though he sometimes cracks under pressure. He suffers from imposter syndrome, believing he reached his current rank by failing upwards.
Note: The first audition line takes place after a close encounter with a mermaid and Grace asks Ben how he knows it's really her.

You were soaked to the bone after I fished you out of the ocean. They can’t maintain their transformations while in contact with sea water, so I’m reasonably sure it’s actually you.
No offence Lieutenant Mulroney, but you’re being a little too vague with your answers. We’re having a difficult time determining if you are who you say you are.
[sigh] It’s like you said back then. Our story is difficult for even us to believe and we were there. Emma’s existence alone wasn’t going to prove the impossible.
Real name: Enna, anglicized to Emma by Captain McQueen. Emma is an air force pilot from the nation of Honagluchi fighting the war against the merfolk. She volunteered when her sister was conscripted, so she wouldn't be alone. She followed the merfolk through the wormhole and found herself in Canada.
Emma is kind, but also proud, confident, and subborn. She does not take criticism well and prefers to work alone. She is around twenty five years old.
Emma starts off with no knowledge of English and learns the language throughout the series. The first audition line is a example of her native language, Honaye. The second line is an example of her speaking English with a heavy accent. And the third line is an example of her speaking English with a light accent. It may be useful to know that Honaye was mainly inspired by Japanese, but feel free to put your own spin on her accent if you wish.

Thanks for all the help, Grace!
Grace is an avid language learner and a self-proclaimed polyglot. In fact, the main reason she left her sleepy town in the Yukon and joined the RCAF was to travel the world and put her skills to good use. However, she's very quick to point out she's not fluent in most of the languages she knows and as a polyglot she's a jack of all trades, master of few.
Grace is kind and compassionate, almost to a fault. When the merfolk first invade, she's not entirely convinced that it's not just a misunderstanding. She is twenty years old.
Since Grace is a mutilingual character, mutilingualism is an asset. Please list any other languages you speak on the recording. But if you only speak English, don't worry, your audition will still be considered.

I don’t think she’s trying to be disrespectful, sir. [pause] If I were to guess, her language likely doesn’t have a “Ba” sound, so she’s having trouble with your name.
It’ll be difficult, considering your tongue likely won’t have a textbook written for it. In fact, I’ll probably be the one writing said textbook.
According to the internet her language doesn’t exist. We’ve had rely on English immersion and, once she got to a high enough level, ESL textbooks written in English.
A simple crewman aboard HMCS Toronto. Immediately hit it off and became friends with Nathalie Mulroney, despite her being an officer. Caught in the crossfire when the mermaids attack the ship.

My, someone’s grumpy today. I’m just concerned that you may have hurt it again. After all, even after it heals, it’s never quite the same.
I guess you’re right. It still peeves me though. [sigh] And I thought my childhood had prepared me for military life...
Enemy? [scoff] It’s the year 2020. Who is our “enemy” exactly? The Russ--?

[sigh] So he wasn’t lying about the aircraft being destroyed. What did he lie about everything else though? What is McQueen trying to conceal?
What to you think happened, Colonel? Any ideas? Nothing’s off the table. [pause] Well, SOME things are, but you get the idea.
It’s possible, but unlikely. Where are their parachutes? Those things are huge and damn hard to hide, as any paratrooper could tell you.

This is ridiculous, Colonel. Even if we take everything the Summerside’s crew reported as fact, Environment Canada states that they’re still in contact with their personnel. Nothing seems out of the ordinary to them.
Colonel, would you mind explaining why you brought the Lieutenant here? I don’t believe she has adequate security clearance.
[scoff] And that threat is a horde of militarized mermaids? Next you’ll be telling me a division of little green men has escaped Area 51. [sigh] God, you two deserve the same punishment as McQueen.

What happened to you Lemay? You’re such a bright officer. Why are you chasing fairy--?
In that case, would you mind telling us about that trick you just pulled to bring General Cameron’s grandson in here? If I didn’t know any better, I’d say it looked like magic.
Colonel, this is all very interesting, but I’m here wondering what exactly you want us to do about this.

As General Scott mentioned, there has been a whirlwind of discussion about Sable Island and the events of June 23rd as described by Captain Benjamin McQueen.
We can already tell where this is going, so skip the fluff. We all have places we’d rather be.
You used the phrase “unknown hostile force”, Colonel. What DO we know about them? If we know nothing, can you really say they’re mermaids? How do we know this isn’t a paramilitary group made up of plain old humans?
General Cameron's grandson. Just a general bundle of sunshine. About five years old.

Over a dozen ships have gone missing in the last few hours. It’s the Russians or the Chinese! They’re sinking our ships!
You heard what I said. Some witnesses on the shore have seen people pulled under by their legs. Either there are some very hungry walruses or its the work of a team of divers.
Looking for someone with a powerful military voice to bring various extra characters to life. Please use a different voice for each audition line.

Sir, these are two CF-18 parts that which where recovered. A front landing gear wheel and a drogue chute.
It has become clear that there is a real and present danger to shipping in the region.
Effective immediately, you are relieved of duty, with a more thorough investigation pending.
Look for someone to play the various mermaid extras when they're not transformed. Feel free to try different voices and accents.
