Keeper of the Lost Cities Chapter 1 Comic (For YouTube)
Project Overview
This video is what I want to dub, it's the first page of the first chapter of a book called Keeper of the Lost Cities revolving around a 12-year-old girl named Sophie Foster (comic pages drawn by me). Sophie Foster has had the ability of Telepathy since she was just 5-years-old, and on a field trip to a museum she discovers she's not the only one with this power and that there's a whole world of elves with other unique powers. She goes on a journey to discover why she lives among humans and more about who she is.
The book was written by Shannon Messenger, and if you want to know more about the series you can read the description of the linked video or google the book. I am only planning to do the first chapter of the book since I do not own the copyright, but I might do up to chapter 7 since that's how many chapters are available to read on Barnes & Noble's website.
I don't have any microphone preferences, as long as your voice is clear and there's not a lot of noise in the background.
Only the first 3 characters appear in chapter one, so if you want roles to play sooner those are the best choices.
The first two only appear in chapter one, so if you want roles past chapter one and that last for longer those are the worst choices, as well as Kenric and a few others.
Make sure if you decide to audition for a character past Fitz that in a while, when I get to those scenes, you will still be available to do the lines when I ask for them.
Also, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DISCORD! I will be sending everyone I choose a link to a Discord server so we can collaborate on the project together and get closer.
(you can audition for as many lines as you want, as I might not like you for one role but love you for another)
When you are logged in, you can comment, add submissions, create projects, upvote, search open roles, and way more. Login here.
Accent must be AMERICAN OR BRITISH. His accent is crisper than British, but I don't know what that sounds like nor do I really imagine his voice as British, but I might pick someone with a British accent considering that's kind of how it *should* sound.
Fitz is handsome. Downright gorgeous and charming. He should sound so too, but don't try too hard, just be natural.
He's one of the main characters, consistent throughout the entire 6+ books. He becomes one of Sophie's best friends in her new life.
*first encounter with Sophie, inquiring about a picture of her in the article* Is this you?
*Sophie nods* I thought so.
I didn't realize your eyes were brown.
Sophie: "Uh...yeah, why?"
*shrugs* No reason.
*pointing to the Lambeosaurus display* Tell me something. Do you *really* think that's what they looked like? It's a little absurd, isn't it?
Nevermind. I'll let you get back to your class. It was nice to meet you, Sophie.
So this role is for a side comic I made that's not canon in the KotLC series, but I thought it was funny because I used the meme "If I fits I sits," but instead with Fitz because that's his name (Fitz was jealous Keefe was sitting with Sophie and so he sat on Keefe).
Keefe is very outgoing and full of jokes and teasing. Keefe is a prankster who can also be very flirtatious at times (especially with Sophie). Behind all that though he hides a lot of personal issues, especially with his parents. His relationship with his parents isn't so good, especially as the story continues and this causes him a lot of depression. In spite of his depression and teasing he is very sweet, loving and always means the best. Like mostly all the other characters, his name has a meaning: noble, gentle, handsome and lovable.
*Fitz sits on Keefe* Dude, what are you doing? Not cool, Fitz.
Okay seriously, get off me now, it's hard to breathe.
*Fitz meows* Uh... What?
Emma Foster is Sophie's Mother. She should be angry, concerned and confused in these 3 chunks, as she got a call that Sophie left the school group and the teacher didn't know where she had gone. Sophie has now arrived home after a while, and she is relieved but angry because she doesn't want Sophie to do things like that.
*Sophie walks into her house* THERE YOU ARE!
*talking on the phone* Yes, She's home now.
Don't worry, I will be having a *very* long talk with her.
That was Mr. Sweeney calling because he couldn't find you at the museum. What were you thinking, wandering off like that--especially now, with the fires making everyone nervous? Do you have any idea how worried I was? And Mr. Sweeney was about to call the police!
*anger fading to concern* Scared of what? Did something happen?
*Questioning Sophie's response* Why didn't you get a teacher or a museum guard--or call the police?
William Foster is Sophie's father. He's just gotten home from work after Sophie and her mom talked about why Sophie left the museum. After talking to Fitz, Sophie is questioning her life and how her family is actually her family if she isn't human and what the future will hold. She goes to bed early, and asks her parents if she was adopted or if she was switched at birth.
*talking to Sophie* And how's my Soybean?"
*noticing Sophie's distressed state* You okay, Soybean?
*tucking Sophie in* Sweet dreams, Soybean.
*laughing* Sorry, Soybean, we're your parents--whether you like it or not.
Amy Foster is Sophie's younger 9-year-old sister. She's a bit sassy and annoying towards Sophie, but Sophie loves her anyway.
*mocking her dad's nickname for Sophie after her mom told Sophie to set the table* Yeah, Soybean. Get crackin'
(that's all the lines she has throughout the first 7 chapters, but if you wanna make up more of your own you can)
Mr. Forkle is the lovable old next-door-neighbor of Sophie and her family. He's always lived there, and called for help she injured her head at the age of 5 (also the age she began to read peoples' minds). He has a strange addiction with garden gnomes, smells like feet, and is very nosy. However, he is very dependable and by far one of my favorite characters.
*notices Sophie waiting outside her house from his lawn* Looking for someone?
*grumbling* You kids, always up to something.
*sincere* You should get back inside before the smoke gives you another one of those headaches you're always--"
*protective* She most certainly will not!
Sophie, go inside. And you *points at jogger/stranger* get out of here right now or I'm calling the police.
I don't care. Get. Away. From. Her. Now.
Mysterious jogger man who tries to kidnap Sophie by tricking her with a dog.
*a dog races towards Sophie* would you mind grabbing her?
*Sophie grabs the dog* Thank you so much.
*dog growls and strains against leash when the jogger comes near*
*shouting over dog* She's my sisters dog. She hates me--not my sister, the dog.
*dog trembling in Sophie's arms* I don't suppose you'd be willing to carry her back to my sister's house. It's just a few blocks away , and she seems to like you better than me.
Alden Vacker is Fitz's father, also a part of the elven counsel and considered royalty. The Vacker name is a very popular name among the elven world.
Alden is also a lovable character and extremely kind. He has a voice more prominent than Fitz's; either an American or British accent is preferred.
*Fitz introduces Sophie to his father* It's a pleasure to meet you, Sophie.
I see that Fitz wasn't kidding about the brown eyes. Most unusual.
There's nothing to be embarrassed about. I think the color is quite pretty. Don't you, Fitz?
*Fitz asked if Alden told anyone about Sophie's location* Only the counsel, why?
*Fitz explains the jogger incident*
*Panicked* Are you okay?
*responding to Sophie's response* Humans...
*dismissive* Kidnapping is a human crime. I've never heard of an elf even considering such a thing--much less trying it. What made you think it was one of us?
Bronte is one of the many counselors, very crude and dedicated to making Sophie's life miserable. He's basically a jerk with power, but I've come to love him as the story progressed. Also he has pointy ears like a traditional elf, but only because he's so old and that's the only sign they show of being super old.
*Sophie gasps*
*demanding* What?
*Sophie explains she was surprised by his ears*
*confused* My ears?
*sneering & bothered to say her name* So, Sophie.
Alden tells me you're a Telepath.
*Alden explains she's been reading minds since she was 5*
*arguing* That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard.
Let's see how good you are, then. Tell me what I'm thinking.
Literally the opposite of Counselor Bronte, he's lovable and sweet. He has a major crush on Counselor Oralie, but counselors aren't allowed to engage in relationships with each other.
"Kenric was built like a football player, with wild red hair and a big, toothy grin"
I see him as a bit boyish and charming and adorable, but mature and sincere all in one.
*Sophie wonders how long elves live*
We don't know, no one's died of old age yet
(this is all the lines Kenric has in the first 7 chapters, but you can make up some lines if you want)
I don't have any specific lines, I just need some thoughts of people in these situations, and anything else you feel like offering. I will be casting a lot of extras, but if you can do multiple voices that's better.
I'm sorry I don't have any specific lines, but you can literally say anything and I'll probably cast you for an extra. These are just the specific scenarios I have, but I might need extras for a few other scenarios.
mocking teenagers (Sophie's super intelligent and it's weird or they're jealous)
excited children (at a museum in awe of the dinosaur displays and information)
mind-blown adults (Sophie just used telekinesis on a lamp post in front of a man driving a car)
These are the only lines Garwin has, he's a jealous senior picking on poor 12-year-old Sophie because she's smarter than he is. He was wearing a T-Shirt with the words "Back off! I'm gonna fart!"
He probably sounds snobbish, but you decide how you want to voice the lines.
No preferred accent.
Nice job, superfreak.
Maybe they'll write another article about you. "Child Prodigy Teaches Class About the Lame-o-saurus"
*thinking* I can't believe she got into Yale and I didn't, and that she decided to go to San Diego City College instead! No wonder they wrote about it in the newspaper...
Mr. Sweeney is Sophie's High School teacher (there's not too much information about if she has other teachers or not) who has taken his class on a field trip to the Natural History Museum in Balboa park. I'd say his accent is probably an American accent, considering he lives in California, but really any accent would work since I don't know his background.
His voice is supposed to be nasally, if you can't do that it's fine, but if you can that would be better.
MISS FOSTER!
Have you decided that you're too smart to pay attention to this information?
Since you've decided you're above this lecture, why don't you give it?
