JLI: What about it?
Project Overview
After a great Crisis, the Justice League is gone… for like a week, the UN wants to bring the Justice League back as a fully international team, and Batman is set to lead. Think of this as an office comedy meeting superheroes all in a glorious audio drama format. Goofy people having fun together. What else can I say but Bwhahaha

The Phantom Stranger will be the heaviest role in the show. He’s our narrator and will be detailing the setting and the events in the story that, due to the medium, we won’t actually “see.” He is the Spirit of Justice, and for this story, an observer. He’s very somber and dry in his delivery. Given the comedic nature of the show, the Stranger serves as a straight man who exists outside of the antics. We need a master of deadpan humor here. Voice References I’d suggest are Leslie Nielsen in Airplane, Andre Braugher’s Captain Holt, or even Kevin Conroy’s Phantom
- male adult
“The battle between good and evil is one always in flux. Chaos will always exist to disrupt order, but light will always return when things are darkest. I am but a Stranger…as we all are. Today we begin a story about people, about struggle, about growth, but most importantly, about justice. This is the story of the Justice League International.”
“What no one knew was that Booster Gold…was full of shit.”
“Then, out of the blue, Guy Gardner sat on a whoopie cushion.”
Bruce Wayne/Batman is a brilliant tactician, fighter and leader. His voice should be commanding, deep and deadly serious. Like hearing him laugh should be terrifying because of how surprising it is. There really isn't a better vocal reference than the late great Kevin Conroy.
“I am vengeance… I am the night… I AM BATMAN!!!”
“Cmon, old chum, time for the clock king to clock out!”
“Sit. Down. Booster.”
Mr. Terrific is the 3rd smartest man in the world, and it shows. He is confident, powerful and scary smart. His goal is to make the world a better place using his genius. He's kind of like an unseasoned Batman. He has the potential to be a great leader except he doesn't really get people. Like there's a bit of a disconnect between Michael and the rest of the gang. He is trying to be a good leader but struggles. Voice ref wise Peter Jessop (specifically his voice for vision) and of course Edi Gathegi.
“Im goddamn Mr. Terrific."
“Respect the name.”
“SPHERES. They are T-spheres.”
Guy bears the weight of a deeply abusive background that influences every choice and action he makes in his daily life. Despite his well-meaning intent, he is easily misunderstood and prone to angry outbursts, coming off as a jerk to most who encounter him. This role requires an emotional range between cocky bravado and a soft, gentle core. Examples of his voice would be Jason Marsden, James Arnold Taylor (his VA from Brave and the Bold) and Stavros Halkias with a thick Baltimore accent.
“In Brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight, to all those who worship evils might, beware my power, GREEN LANTERN’S LIGHT!”
“You wanna go? LETS GO!”
“P-Pretty lady. Who said that? Ted, why would you say that? Hiiii tora.”
Jay is the flash of the golden age. He retired for a good number of years and when the series picks up he is in semi-retirement (assisting the new JSA every once in a while). He's the team's nice grandpa. The voice should have a warm and kind energy to it. Jay Garrick is a kind man trying to make the world a better place with every step. A good voice reference for him would probably be Bruce Cambell or Nick Offerman (not Ron Swanson though).
“Back in a flash kiddo!”
“Oh and how is my lovely bride doing?”
“Justice, one step at a time!”
Booster hails from the distant future (the 31st century to be precise) and was a complete loser. He worked at a museum for superheroes after his failed sports career. He did have an idea though, he stole a superhero costume, a museum robot named Skeets and a time machine to get rich by being a superhero in the 21st century. Think of an actor trying to make it in the business. His voice should always have a bit of showmanship. Think of something like Lewis Pullman or Glenn Powell for his voice.
“Booster gold: the greatest hero youve never heard of!”
“ Go go boostermobile!”
“BWAHAHAHA!”
Blue Beetle/Ted Kord is a nerd. Imagine if Batman and Spiderman had a kid who got real into adventure novels. He's fun, he's silly. He's the most classic swashbuckling superhero on the cast. He should always be able to crack a joke and have fun, probably being the most light hearted on the team! Think something like Will Wheaton or Will Fridele for his voice.
“BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”
“Behold… THE BUG!”
“Hey, the suits cool!”
Vixen is from the african nation of Zambesi, and the wielder of the Tantu Totem, an amulet that allows her connection to the energies of every animal on earth. Outside of her superheroing activities Mari is a supermodel and CEO of her own company. Mari is confident, knows what she wants and isn't afraid to get it. She isn't a headstrong ass like so many other members of the team, she's smart, methodical and cunning, so the perfect foil to most of the team. She should be calm, cool and collected with a west african accent.
“I can use the strength of a Rhino but I will always prefer the grace of a gazelle”
“Roulette, get ready to feel the claws of a lion!”
Bea is a no-nonsense ex-business executive for the Brazilian branch of WayneTech. After exposure to experimental pyroplasm, she gained the power to control and assume the form of green fire. Her newfound fire powers lead to her to leave her position at WayneTech to pursue a superhero career, leading to her meeting and befriending Tora in the Global Guardians, forming Fire and Ice with her. This role requires a goal-oriented, authoritative tone that belies a softer core if you get past her shell. Bea becomes defensive and somewhat demure in the presence of Tora or when her background is brought up, both being sore spots for her. She has a deep rivalry with Vixen/Mari as she sees her as someone who doesn’t take being in the League as seriously as Bea does… as well as proving as competition in her modeling career. Voice examples include Grey DeLisle’s VA work for her in Brave and the Bold and Nika Futterman, with a slight Brazilian accent.
“There is no fire without ice.”
“Booster shut that tin can up before I shut it up for you!”
Tora comes from an isolated magical tribe of ice-wielding beings in the northernmost reaches of Norway and grew up daydreaming of the world outside the ice walls of her kingdom. Leaving her home to explore the human world, she joins the Global Guardians and becomes close friends with Beatriz, forming the superhero duo Fire and Ice with her. This role requires a softness and warmth covering a drive to explore and experience new things. She’s not as innocent and naive as her soft-spoken voice would make others believe. Incredibly friendly and approachable with a sassier inner core, paralleling Guy and Bea. Examples for her voice would include Jennifer Hale’s VA work for her in Brave and the Bold, Corinne Kempa as Leliana in Dragon Age: Origins, and DeeDee Magno Hall as Blue Pearl in Steven Universe. She has a strong Icelandic accent.
“I could go for some baby seals right now. Sauteed in their own fat! Sounds delicious!"
“You are such an obstinate jerk!”
Dmitri is a member of Russia’s Rocket Red Brigade, on loan from the Russian government to assist the Justice League International. He is someone absolutely fascinated by American culture, and has a very jolly demeanor towards his work, his wife and daughter, and his team. With his heavy duty armor, he’s an absolute tank and will not think twice about taking one for the team. His ideal voice would be either David Harbour’s Red Guardian or Gary Schwartz as the Heavy from TF2.
“Truth, Justice, and the Russian Way!”
“You recognized me? Even in my groovy new threads?”
“I am absolutely honored to stand amongst so many courageous American heroes! We should get hamburger after this!”
Ralph, Ralph, Ralph. The only way I can describe him is as the ultimate wife guy. The two things he loves most in the world are his wife, Sue and a good mystery. And a good mystery is a DISTANT second. He's a detective at heart though! He's always looking for a good mystery. He isn't a grim dark detective about it though! He's more Sherlock Holmes and inspector gadget then NCIS. A good vocal reference for him is Jason Segal (love me some “How I Met Your Mother”)
“I smell a mystery hun!”
“We have to STRETCH the bounds of what's possible!”
