(Indie Horror Game) Spooky Tales: Rineko
Project Overview
Spooky Tales is a retro-horror anthology featuring four short, self-contained horror stories.
RINEKO
A mysterious new student, Rineko, joins the school’s occult club. Her beauty is captivating… but something about her feels unsettling. As she grows closer to the boys in the club, strange events begin to unfold, and it becomes clear that the charming new girl may be hiding a terrible secret in this unsettling Japanese body horror tale.
Rineko is a psychological thriller antagonist disguised as a sweet, enigmatic transfer student. Heavily inspired by Junji Ito's Tomie, her performance requires a mastery of subtle discomfort. Her voice must be soft, hypnotic, and slightly seductive, using a falsely innocent, condescending tone to disarm the protagonist. She possesses a supernatural magnetism and hidden narcissism.

My name is Rineko... It's a pleasure to meet you all. I hope our time together will be... fruitful. A psychic? Oh, no. Hahahaha... It's just a stupid trick.
I'm going to ask you a slightly personal question, Itsuki-kun. What attracts you the most in a girl? You're funny, Itsuki-kun.
(Crazy Maniac Tone) Where do you think you are going???? Come back here my love, you are MINE... hahahaHAHAHAHAHA
Itsuki is the relatable and rational protagonist who desperately tries to explain away the unsettling events around him using logic. As a normal, somewhat anxious teenager, he is easily thrown off balance and subtly seduced by Rineko. Drawn in by her provocative behavior, he becomes deeply entangled in a dangerous, hypnotic attraction that clouds his judgment.

Turn off my flashlight? Why would I do that, Rineko-san? It's beating so slowly, Rineko-san... Are you okay?
(whispering) Didn't you see the way she walked in? She's barely blinked since she stepped through that door.
We basically investigate local urban legends and read manuscripts no one else wants to touch. Weirdo stuff, I know.
Yuma is the loud, self-proclaimed leader of the school's Occult Club. While he acts like a charismatic and authoritative president, the reality is that he is an outcast whose club is treated as an absolute joke by the rest of the school. Deep down, he is deeply insecure and desperate for validation. His vocal performance requires playing up an exaggerated, theatrical arrogance.

Itsuki! Can you put that pencil down for a second? Our sanctuary is under siege and you're just sitting there... drooling over that notebook! I'll use my spiritual magnetism to seduce new members!
If they want attendance, I'll find a way to channel people to the club. I'll use my spiritual magnetism to seduce new members!
Approaching her right now would be astral suicide! I, as the president of the Occult Club, will win her heart.
Kouta is the extremely shy and insecure underdog of the group. Treated almost like a servant by Yuma, he frantically agrees with everything the club president says just to avoid conflict. His vocal performance requires a meek, anxious energy that reflects his constant state of embarrassment and lack of self-esteem. However, underneath his nerves, he is a genuinely sweet kid with a good heart.

There's no way she'll want anything to do with us. Look at the way she carries herself, she's like a magazine model. She'd never want to join a loser club like ours.
I couldn't even breathe right when she walked past me. No! Not at all! Forgive me, Yuma-kun! I'm an idiot, please don't mind what I say!
Incredible! Yuma-kun never loses his touch! His aura is insane!
A very ordinary homeroom teacher. He introduces Rineko to the class.

Take your seats, everyone. I have an announcement to make. Please, pay attention.
This is Rineko-san. She just transferred here from the capital and will be taking the empty seat at the back of the classroom.
Please treat her well and don't bombard her with questions on her first day.
