If Roles Were Reversed - Animated Series (Pilot Episode)
Project Overview
Hi there! My name is Blue and I have created a concept that was originally going to be a book. However, after writing for two years and getting practically nowhere, I decided to put the book on hold. But I did not wanna lose the amazing concept I had. So, I repurposed it into an animated series and am now looking for a series of talented people to help me create this pilot episode.
The concept:
Join William, Jacqueline,Benjamin, Michael, Catherine and Josephine Edwards as they time travel through each decade to see each decade’s story unfold right before their eyes. Though the world may look similar to the history we know today, it is not. The question is why it’s different from the history we all know…
Race is a massive thing in this series. I cannot tell you why yet but if you land a role, I will be more than happy to inform you of the reason. However, I want it to be a surprise for my audience. So, with that in mind, the Edwards family is white and Heather Knight is black. This CANNOT be changed.

William is a typical misogynistic man. He is the one in charge and is basically just a piece of trash. A guy you love to hate. He is the Mayor of the fictional city similar to London, Winworth and plans for his eldest son to take that title once he retires. William is a middle aged man in his mid to late 30s. He is very prideful and thinks he is above everyone else. I want that to be portrayed in his voice. He was born into an upper class family and now has an upper class family of his own…not that he cares for them much.

[Annoyed/mad] No son of mine will talk to his father that way. Do you hear me?
[Slyfuly and proudly at the end] Oh, I have big things in store for her. And for you, my son. But you need to grow up first. Make me proud. Use your power and reputation as I do.
[Distasteful and angry. Like he’s scolding one of his kids] You, little toad are NOTHING. You do not deserve to be in school. You do not deserve to be anything. In fact, you will work for me. So I can keep an eye on you. You will not speak to any of my children again and you will certainly not enter my house again. Do you understand, child?
Jacqueline is a submissive and quiet woman who has learnt her place. She once longed for adventure and still kinda does. Which might be where some of her children have an adventurous side to them. Born from a middle class family, she has had to prove she was worthy of an upper class family and of their love too. She has worked hard to get her and her family’s reputation to where it is now. She dresses a little scruffy to pay homage to her middle class roots and is not ashamed of her family.

Benjamin tries to act exactly like his father, usually copying what William says and does. He even dresses like his father. He is set to take the role of Mayor once his father retires however he is not very witty and is not very good at leading if he doesn’t have someone to copy as seen by the fact that when he tries to be “the man of the house” when his father’s not there, he usually causes more trouble than he fixes. Somehow, he can never get in trouble though. Strange…

[Laughs softly] She deserved it. They all do. What do you wish to do with the scum that entered our house?
[scoffs and mutters] Stupid inter-dimensional time travel. [At his normal tone] You are a boy. You will always be a boy.
[Almost child-like] I won’t let you down, father. I promise.
Catherine prefers to be called Cat and is incredibly strong and smart, much like Heather. Cat is usually covered in bruises and scars from being beaten/punished by her father as she usually takes the blame when her siblings make mistakes, which is quite often. Cat is closest to her twin brother, Michael but is also fairly close with her younger sister, Josephine too. Cat has her mother’s natural beauty and always looks stunning. Cat is very adventurous and loves to be outdoors. I am not looking for any specific thing for Cat so you can try her lines different ways if you would like.

[Confidently, taking responsibility even though she didn’t do anything wrong] …I allowed her into the house. You don’t have to punish Jo or M or even Heather. It was my fault father. I am truly sorry.
[Winces/cringes] It hurts! It really hurts. Ah!
[in her normal tone/a hint of fear in her voice] I don’t get scared often but…he scared me today. It was almost as if…the bitterness he felt for Heather was being inflicted on me. We need to look out for Heather and make sure she’s ok.
Michael (Or Michelle/M) is a slightly awkward character. He is the younger middle child and twin to Cat. He is fairly quiet and will usually stick by his sisters and female influence/presence. He is a very good listener and will listen to anyone and everyone’s problems. When they can, they will also try to help the people he listens to with their problems. A kind and gentle soul, he is often bullied for his feminine tendencies and quiet nature. I would like a softer voice for this character. This character also has to have a wide vocal range as he has high and low pitches in the series.

[said with excitement and in a quieter voice. His normal speaking voice] While I might not fully understand what you experience, I want to. Maybe we can talk at a later date?
[Actually confident for once] She is a human being just as you and I are. We should treat her as such. Just because she’s different, doesn’t mean she’s bad. Leave her alone!
[Context: Michael has accidendly said something offensive previously and now he is listening and agreeing to the points being made] Mhm. Yeah. [Remorseful and genuine]…I’m sorry. I should be more considerate with my words. It’s just that…I care for Josephine deeply and I do not want her to get in trouble. Father is short tempered and can blow his fuse at the smallest things. I don’t want those things to be you or Josephine.
Josephine is our protagonist for this series. She mostly has massive paragraphs as she narrates the story which she is telling to her best friend, Heather Knight. Jo is the youngest child in the Edwards family and the biggest black sheep of the family. They often feel very alone and if it weren’t for Heather, Michael and Cat, they probably would be. She is closest to her big brother, Michael and they often spend a lot of time together at their house (not home). Jo is impulsive and adventurous which can lead them in a lot of trouble. However Cat cones to the rescue most of the time and takes the abuse from their father. Jo and M often spend time with each other and swap clothing which they jokingly tease each other for and has landed them with the nicknames “Jo/Joe” and “M/Michelle”. This character needs to have a wide vocal range as they will be doing both lower and higher tones.

[Going from a lower vocal tone to a higher tone gradually and subtly. Emotion=excited and happy. Positive emotions] We actually did it! We time travelled! Can you believe it? The first time travellers in history…ever! But where…or when were we was the question. It was definitely overwhelming when we got asked to be the first ones to test out the inventor’s invention. I mean the Mayor of Winworth! My own father’s name being pulled!
[stressed and scared] Oh no. No, no, no. We gotta get you out now! [Jo tries to open the window but it’s caught] Shoot…it’s caught on something. Quickly. Hide!
[still slightly jealous] Hm…well whatever. We have a story to get back to.
Heather Knight is a strong black cisgender female. She stands up for what she thinks is right and is the bestest friend Josephine could ever ask for. Heather is of the middle class which makes it even harder for Jo and Heather to be friends. Heather is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet…until you cross her. Then she will become very strong and defensive. Heather is plus sized but never lets that stop her from doing anything she puts her mind to. She is very smart and got into the private school on a full scholarship which is why she’s at that school. There is one thing this character has to be and that is black. I would like a black actress for this role please.
