IAO - Main Cast & Production Team
Project Overview
The Recurring Cast for the soon-to-be animated series, IAO. This is of course a long-term endeavour so if you're not up to it, that's understood.
The series follows the main, mostly silent protagonist with the incredibly creative name "Butterfly" as he slowly realises he's more important than he wanted to be. It has a lot of science fiction themes & mainly aims for a PG-13 rating - in other words, you're allowed to swear. Most characters have very specific details to them, so I'm looking for exactly what it says on the tin. If you aren't into nerdy sci-fi sorts of media, this is definitely not for you.
Important Notes:
- A few roles don't appear until an episode or two in
- These roles are all quite thick in dialogue
- There may be alterations made to the scripts
- I want realistic characters. I'm not looking for stereotypes.
It is unpaid so that can be an obvious issue for some people, which is also understandable.
I look forward to working with you.

Despite his seemingly more bold, tough name, Keen is actually a real softie at heart & quite a lazy worker. His intelligence isn't particularly high, and he tends to not fully understand the importance of different things.
[One of the higher-ups wants you to send out a very important file] Well, I s'pose I should get on with it, yes, but right after I've finished m'tea.
[You're leaving a message for the manager, who missed your call regarding her poor understanding of technology] Hello, it's Keen here, I'm just checking up that it is in fact 3 copies of the declaration you wanted, as the printer has refused to stop printing, and my desk is in quite the predicament at the moment.
An abrupt, yet slow-spoken man. He has a very false demeanour & a slightly drawn-out way of talking. He's a businessman falling to pieces, desperate to squeeze out as much money as he can from his corporation.
[You're trying to avoid firing Butterfly] (Fake, corporate happiness) You're a great worker, just like all the others. You're no problem. You're just... misfit. (Becoming more serious) That being said, it is clearly stated in the code that you should never open the packages you scan. The gases inside of it could've killed you if you were less lucky.
(Seemingly fake disbelief) What the hell are you doing here? I already told you you were fired. Are you here to bargain? To apologise? (Long pause) Just tell me what you want. Please. (Genuine fear) You're starting to really concern me.
An extremely dorky "supervillain" who seriously needs to grow up and probably stop reading comics. He's easily tired out but smarter than he has any right being. He serves mainly as comic relief, though he does seem very troubled.
(Shouting out to the passers-by) This hotel has been completely locked by yours truly! Inconvenient, isn't it? Well that's why I'm here. Inconvenience man, away! (heavy panting, running away)
[Talking with Butterfly in private] (Half-whispering) Look, I trust you, man. And I'll be honest, I'm scared. I don't know what all these people are talking about, but it seems like I'm in serious trouble. (Voice breaking, more sincere) I don't know what to do, I really don't. I don't wanna go.
A recovering alcoholic, Collin has some problems he needs solving. Because of his dependency on drinking, he tends to come off as apathetic, but he truly does care about the people around him. He has a fear of responsibility, constantly trying to escape IAO for unclear reasons.
[Joking to friends] So this little squirt of a kid comes up to me and I'm like, "This is who I'm supposed to take care of?" - like I used to deal with the universe collapsing in and now I gotta babysit?! Get real, man.
[Talking to Keen in private] I can't take this. Every time I try getting it through to you I'm sick of being here, you tackle me into this place. I don't want to work at IAO anymore. That chapter's closed.
[Commenting on someone you consider a villain] (Starting to get depressive) I don't care if you want to ignore me. Lay back all you want in leisure, for in only so little time we will pull you out for interrogation. It's your game, so quit being such a sore loser. Fuckwit.
Incredibly childish & arrogant. He thinks he's clever without realising the consequences of everything he does. He's an example of why children shouldn't be given too much power.
[sort of mocking, but also just being annoying in general] Pfffft. There's no *way* you'd be able to figure it out. You're just a dumb grown-up.
[You're trying to hide the fact you're frightened] No you didn't! You didn't see those things! You're just lying to get me to talk to you! See!? I'm clever! WOULD SOMEBODY SAY THAT I'M CLEVER!? PLEASE!?
[showing off, but playing it cool] You see, there's this programming language called C++, and what it does is- [you're cut off, being told that everyone there knows what C++ is]
She's incredibly British, and incredibly badass. Her whole shtick is that she's a clone of the protagonist, butterfly, and she's far more impressive of a character. Despite that, she's never really mentioned too much outside her small part of the timeline. One small detail, however, is that she's from a dimension in which most life in it is 2-dimensional. JUST SPECIFYING: I DON'T WANT A NORTHERNER ACCENT, SHE'S FROM THE SOUTH
[Someone's being particularly sexist when you're at a bar] Oi! I've done a damn lot more than you ever will with those stumpy little limbs of yours! At least I work a bit hard to look presentable to the peoples!
[Doing an intentionally dramatic monologue] I was only five years old when it all happened. They'd taken my mother to god knows where, and that Eli bloke, (you make a sort of oooaahh sound, ya get me?), I just wanted to punch his little precious little Johnny lookin' face. I never knew what they did to 'er, but I'd bet a fiver and a half she's *dead*. That bastardly child's got a lot comin' for him.
[talking with another version of herself, who's much less masculine & impressive] You wot? Ya can't sleep wiffout lil' plushies an' that wiff ya? I had to sleep in the bloody dirt, get a hold o' yourself, man.
A much more sensitive, feminine side to a typical male than you'd usually expect. He could honestly even be voiced by a female if the voice fits appropriately. He's lived a poor life & that poor life led to him meeting Collin. The rest, from then on, is history.
[outraged at what his friend had done] What!? You've done that without even THINKING about the consequences! No wonder everything's gone completely haywire if the guy's gotten out of that alive! You're insane! You're actually insane!
[comforting someone who would be considered an antagonist] Look. I get it. You're trying to keep yourself well & good & you're doing all that you can. You're a father, after all - I suppose you could say that? - & you're just doing what you think is best. But could you please just acknowledge what you've done to everyone else in the process, hey? There's more life than your own or your family's, so please just shut this down.
[bewildered by an outrageous claim about your entire life] But that's ridiculous! How could... how could my ENTIRE LIFE be fabricated, like, well, some sort of an act or a story? Who would go that far over silly little me just to bring me here, to you? It all just doesn't sit right with me.
An agent working for an unknown intelligence. He speaks with a slight New-Yorker twang. The only way he communicates to Butterfly is by forcing himself into his world, often by bashful or abrupt means. It's very difficult to understand Trilby's emotions or desires, placing him in a moral grey-area.
Hey, kid. You're probably wondering who the hell I am. Well, that's classified. All I can tell you is I'm here to help.
(Strong, barking anger) What the hell did I tell you last time we met!? You're out here working for those bastards!? I told you specifically not to believe anything they said! I'm gonna track you down and try my goddamn hardest to get you outta this mess.
There are a few different roles of Extras throughout IAO. Choose one of the three Audition lines for whichever tone fits your voice best.
[Whispering/Bickering to others] My, what's this? This kid's so bad at the job! He's so awkward, what a weirdo! (Laugh hysterically)
[In a bar, laughing through Collin's stupid jokes - You're very drunk] Y'know, I don't even get the joke - But it's still goddamn hilarious!
[You've been handed a ticket for something. You haven't even looked at it] That's a counterfeit. It's blitheringly obvious. Back of the line!
I need some people who can model assets either in .fbx or .blend formats, and some people who can work to create different scenes throughout the story. Most modelling will be based around proxies or written-word description, though image reference may still be used. The main style present is urban settings with pseudorealistic elements, contrasted with the cutesy characters
Say something you think would fit
I need somebody for animating the 2-D characters throughout the series, particularly Mantis. The general style has emphasis on stick figures and very roadrunner-esque cartoon graphics
Say something you think would fit
If you're skilled at a particular instrument and you have adept music theory knowledge, then you should try applying here. There's no particular genre or instrument range I'm looking for, so anything goes.
