Human Resources (Serial Sci-fi Podcast)

Human Resources (Serial Sci-fi Podcast)

Project Overview

Project Description

Human Resources is a contemporary science fiction podcast based on a piece of serial fiction linked below.  This fiction has been licensed from the author.  In this podcast, we follow Scott, Matt, and Barry try to start a technology company based around an overpowered piece of human resources software and all the hijinks and shenanigans that ensue.

Actor Requirements

Be 18+.  Although this podcast is not and will not be NSFW, this protects us legally from liability and lets you get paid.

On the previous note, expect to sign a contract so that we don't get sued and you get paid.

Expect a small share (5% max) of royalties but no up-front payments.

Expect closing credits in the audio of the podcast and text credit in the episode descriptions.

Deadlines and Due Dates

Auditions will close on November 5th, 2022. Expect us to contact you as soon as we've decided that you're a fit for a role.  If we chose you, please respond as soon as possible.  If you have been chosen for the part, expect scripts sent to the email you provide by November 19th, but as early as November 13th.  You will have two weeks from November 19th to send in your lines.  This process will be repeated every month.  Two weeks on our end, then two weeks on yours.  If life happens and you need to reschedule, be sure to communicate.  If you miss a deadline without communication, you'll automatically be booted from the project.  If you don't think you'll be able to manage a 6+ month project with constant communication, please don't audition.

Communication

We primarily use Discord for day-to-day communication and chatting while we use email for business-specific communication, Google Drive to transfer files, and Google Tasks to communicate deadlines.  If you are unfamiliar with any of these pieces of software, please let us know so that we can help you learn.

Expectations

First and foremost, have fun -- we take pride in bringing together talents in different mediums to create something truly phenomenal, but none of it means anything if the people involved aren't passionate about their craft.

Please submit clean recordings on prosumer mics (no air conditioners in the background, no fans -- we don't mind performing noise reduction on your files, however too much clean-up reduces the quality of your voice). And speaking of clean-up -- please let us handle the post-production. Don't add effects to your lines -- leave that to our audio geniuses :)

Please submit your recordings as one .wav file per take to the Google Drive folder that will be shared to your email.  Please put comments in the file names so that we know what we're getting and what you liked & disliked about that take.  Please do not edit/comp your takes.  We may ask for additional takes on an episode or two.  If we do, we'll be happy to give you an extra week, if you need it.  If you do need extra time to re-take lines, we may move the schedule back in general.

Lastly, since we are planning on multiple seasons of Human Resources, we'd like to cast people who will be able to stick with us for a while. We're incredibly proud of the connections we've formed over the years, and when starting a new project, we frequently return to voice actors we've worked with in the past.

About the Poster

I'm Gavin Barrett-Hayes.  I'm a college student, music producer, scriptwriter, DJ, and mixing and mastering engineer.  I love anything related to the music and film industry.  I'm hoping to get my start with this project just like you probably are.  I'm super excited to meet and talk to the talent that auditions and to get this ball rolling!

Main character that also acts as the narrator of the story. This is by far the character with the most lines.

  • Scott Henderson was struggling. He couldn’t understand why his villainous teacher Dr. Chu would expect students to have working software finished and debugged in only 2 weeks. I mean he was at school to learn Computer Science - if he was already an expert why would he need to go to class?

Also, this project could not be any more boring! “Build a simple Human Resources database for organizing applicants resumes. Allow searching by keywords”. This simple description had him nearly falling asleep. In elementary school, where they first tricked him into wanting to do this, they had cool programs where you could drag around blocks and make games. Now, it seemed like 10 times the work to make something that wasn’t even a little bit interesting!

One of the founders of the tech firm this story focuses on, Scott will have a major role to play but not nearly as many lines as Scott, because he isn't the narrator.  We expect the actor we choose for this role to be able to voice multiple side characters as well, so please submit your demo reel so we can hear what you sound like!

  • “Sounds good! We haven’t seen you outside of class for a while.”

  • “OK I see why you warned us. I think once the Russians realize your buggy software somehow convinced them to spend millions writing your homework project they are definitely going to ‘disappear’ you.
