Huggable

Huggable

Project Overview

Huggable is a short horror film about a creepy teddy bear who shows up at a woman's house and haunts her.

This project is my first film and I'm using it to help me learn and gain experience. Since I am the only person acting, I wrote some voice acting parts to give me practice with dialogue and working with actors.

To learn more about the project you can check out the Huggable website, https://sites.google.com/view/huggablemovie/home, or my TikTok page which is @weird.movie.lady

MOM is in her late 50s/early 60s and is the mother of the main character. She is in two scenes, speaking on the phone with the main character, Sam, who is a woman in her thirties. Mom is judgmental and overbearing.

No special equipment is needed for this role as the audio will be modified to sound like a phone conversation.  Please use the following lines to audition:

SAM
Hey Mom, how are you guys?
Mom
Hi honey! We're good, getting ready for bed. Are you alright? It's kind of late Sam.
SAM
No, I’m, everything's ok. Um, I was calling to see if you guys had sent me a gift?
MOM
I don't think so? Oh shoot! Did we miss your birthday again? I thought I wrote it down, but you know how crazy it gets around here.
SAM
Don’t worry, you didn’t miss my birthday. It’s just, I found this strange toy sitting at the front door today.
It's a big teddy bear.
MOM
A teddy bear? No, hun, that wasn't from us.
SAM
You sure? I don't know who else would have left it there.
MOM
Of course I'm sure. I may be getting older, but I'm not senile yet! Maybe someone is trying to be nice to you. You know it wouldn't hurt you to be a little more social.
SAM
You're right Mom, as always. It's probably no big deal. I threw it away though. That thing was kind of creepy.

(Into the phone)
Hey.
SARAH
Hey Sam! I was calling to see if you wanted to come over for dinner? Tom's making ribs.
SAM
Sarah, I’m fine. I don’t need your pity invite.
SARAH
It's not a pity invite, I actually want you to come.
Sam
It's like seven o'clock. It seems kinda last minute. I'm actually in the middle of cooking already, so thanks anyway.
SARAH
Ok, sure, that's totally fine. I get it.
Well, Tom's friend David is coming over. I was really hoping you two would meet. He's so funny and super sweet, I think. At least that's what Tom said. I haven't met him yet, but he just started working at the restaurant with Tom.
SAM
Yeah, David sounds great, a real catch.
SARAH
But, since you're not going to be here, I'll give him your number, I think it would be good for you.
SAM
No no no no! Don’t give him my number.

David got Sam's (thirties, female) number from her sister. He's a creep who has never met her, but is leaving her a voicemail and then sending an unsolicited picture.

No special equipment is needed for this role as the audio will be modified to sound like a phone conversation.  Please use the following lines to audition:

David
Hey Sam, this is David. I got your number from Sarah. She showed me a picture of you and I gotta say, not bad. When I heard how old you were, I was a little worried, but I can definitely work with that.
You should come over to my place tonight, I get off work at 11. Sarah said you might be a little lonely, and I'd happy to help.
In fact, I'm gonna send you a text, consider it a preview. You're gonna like it don't worry. Call me back beautiful.

Role assigned to: Dex Bryant

The antagonist in this film is a large teddy bear named Huggable. The voice actor for Huggable is an 8 year-old-child. Huggable giggles several times throughout the film. It needs to be something that sounds like an old baby doll with a voice box.

This role does not require any special equipment because the audio will be edited with different effects. Please submit 3-5 different giggles. Feel free to try variations of childlike, evil, innocent, get creative!
