How I Survived- First Round Of Casting
Project Overview
The Mavericks: Saviors of the universe to those who serve them.
Every ten years, the Mavericks shelter three sixteen year olds from roughly 100 planets or dimensions, and hold a competition to select protectors of their citizens for their own planet.
Whichever team’s planet wins, will be saved from annihilation by an all powerful being named Afta, who sucks energy out of worlds and people in order for his own to survive.
Prophecies don’t matter when you’re faced with death, so although no one cares, and unknown to themselves and those around them, nine teenagers are destined to die defeating Afta.
But can anyone really survive a war this big?
The podcast is made up of audio from body mics used on each contestant for the purpose of the competition that's being broadcasted.
Casting Notes!
You absolutely must be comfortable with queer characters, as this podcast has A LOT of them.
For specifically Alejo, I’m requesting a Mexican or Latina actor. For Aki, I’m willing to adjust the part to a different race if needed. More on that in the next paragraph.
For the main trans written character, AKI please only audition if you yourself are trans, or under the umbrella. I would prefer a Japanese actor but I’m willing and able to adjust to fit the actor who fits.
Please be the ages of 14-19 to audition.

Sexuality: Bisexual, though he only figures this out later on.
Alejo is determined to save earth by playing by all the rules. He's been taught by his veteran father his whole life that listening to authority and not rebelling can get you ahead in the world, and might be the only way you survive. Who cares if this authority doesn't seem to care whether he lives or dies, they're still giving him a chance! And he's about to take it, no matter what.
He’ll do anything to win this challenge, including sucking up to alien overlords, and ignoring all human emotions.
Alejo starts off as a strict rule follower, believing that with order in place, everything would work out for his planet to come out on top. He slowly loses faith in thar system, and starts to focus on living people instead. He'd do anything for the people he loves, and he's ready to do anything to protect earth from Afta.

(Panic, denial) “Girls… I like girls! And that guy just looks confusingly like one. That’s it!”
(Happy, sweet) “Is this really all gonna be over someday? Because, I wanna spend, like every second of someday with you.”

Aki has a secret that has managed to stay hidden for the two years he started living it after moving to England: He's trans.
But suddenly he's in a new dimension entirely, and his secret may not stay a secret for much longer.
He doesn't want to fight for the world that would kill him in a heartbeat, but otherwise? Everything could fall apart. He wouldn't even get the chance to be the boy he knows he can be, he'd be dead too soon.
Aki is reserved, very protective of the human team and especially of Lyn, and at times cold.
Japanese, American, or British accents encouraged but not required.

(Sad, trying to convince himself and Alejo he's okay) “I’m fine, Alejo. I just… I guess it just feels like my whole life just got ripped to shreds because someone else decided it needed to be. I never got a say.”
(Happy at the start, but switching to a horrified realization in the middle.) “We… We lived! Or, at least I did.”

Lyn just wanted to go to homecoming with her best friend, Jessie. But getting abducted by aliens kind of messes up the asking stage of that plan. So now she's pissed, and willing to do pretty much anything to get back to earth.
She decides to save the world long enough to get Jessie out of there and run to some far off planet, where none of this can hurt them, ever again.
She speaks poetically a lot, and feels emotional rarely. She can come off as mean or heartless, but she just wants to be seen as an authority.

Jasina grew up considered a child of a Goddess. They've spent the last three years as one of the last of their species, along with two other spared teens.
Their parent was a holy figure, and was considered the smartest Monrealian alive, and therefore fit to rule. When the Overtakers took over she was spared because she was seen as useful for royal marriage.
She's fighting to get whoever is left of the Monrealians out, and the only way to do that is to save the planet entirely.

Clawd is young. Too young to drive, but apparently old enough to run the government at seventeen in six months. They just want to know the people they’ll make decisions for, but being exalted above Monrealians and Overtakers alike means that they’re stuck guessing forever until their people just fall in line out of fear.
They don’t want to be a puppet for some insane council that’ll only kill and take power for itself. So, if they can save their world, maybe they’ll get real power: People’s trust. And it all starts with the leader of The Monreals: Jesina Ronc.
If only they weren’t so pretty that Clawd couldn’t get a word out.

Eleisy is determined to hold up the family name she was born into. The Overtakers value relations to power, and she has that written into her bloodline by design.
She’s set to marry into power even further, if she can just get Clawd to accept. It’s only four months until she’s 17, and therefore an adult, and if she doesn’t marry higher up then? She’s on her own.
She’ll save her planet, sure, but if she can get closer to him, she can also save hundreds of others by expanding the Overtaker’s reach!
So, with all that in mind, besides her love life… What does she really have to lose here?

(Impulsive, she thinks the person she's talking to is an idiot for thinking gods would help them win against her.) “Gods? Gods don’t have power! They can only do things that are so called powerful if others give them the ability to do them with blind belief! No- Power comes from growth beyond what’s expected of you!”
(Calm, contemplating) “I’m the type of person who doesn’t believe in anything except what’s right in front of me. Which is stupid, right? I know there’s things I can’t see, like a soul, but every one of those things feels explainable by something I can see. Like a frontal lobe.”

Loki would give up his spot as the champion of Tine in a heartbeat. His planet is unique, unified under one rule, no sickness, no hunger, no desire. But he doesn’t want to be here, he can’t be the one to save it. He’s been prophecies since birth to kill a “Giant” and end a civil war that has been raging on for decades. He could put all the participating worlds in jeopardy.
And he wasn’t supposed to be feeling this emotion, the one that’s been there sitting in his chest ever since he met Alejo Cortes.
He’d do anything for this strange boy from earth.
He just has to survive his own mess before thinking about romance. Winning this contest, means he can actually bring his family safely out of the slums he’s lived in his entire life.
Whether or not he’ll end the world as he knows it seems light years away. He just wants to win and get it over with, and he’ll do a lot of things to get there. Even… Stop Alejo.

(Yelling, upset) “I’m no freaking prophecy! I’m a sixteen year old who can barely do calculus, there’s no universe where I’m slaying any giants!”

Prita was sent as a girl on the inside of this competition. Her goal is to learn everyone’s weaknesses, and help prepare and strengthen the Tinian military for war against all of them, including the Mavericks.
See, the Tinian aren’t as peaceful as they seem, and they aren’t stupid either. If they join Afta, they’ll make it out of this whole thing relatively unscathed.
And they have what's practically magic on their side… So, in the end, who really cares how they get to the top, once they’re up there?

Chyb grew up in the shadow of her twin, Loki. She always wanted more attention, love, care, sure! But when a scrape on your knee could get you to cry for hours, and on your brother a broken arm healed in five minutes, you got labeled as needy pretty quickly.
Her ability to feel higher amounts of pain than average Tinians led her to be isolated. That was, until Prita showed up. Man, did she love Prita. As soon as they were adults at 20, she was going to do it. She was going to ask her to marry her, and tell her everything about her family, her life, even her brother the moment she said yes.
She would trust her with her life.
So… What secret was she keeping from her ever since they were taken? And why?
