Hemlock - Artists and Musicians Call

Hemlock - Artists and Musicians Call

Project Overview

Hey guys! It's Elsewhere Again (again lol),

We're a brand new studio building something strange and beautiful, and we're looking for the people to help us pull it off.

Hemlock is the debut project from Elsewhere Again: a character-driven story set in a retrofuturist 1985 Los Angeles that's equal parts sun-soaked utopia and quiet mystery.

We're crewing up our internal art and audio departments for our animatic pilot teaser, and we want people who are excited to make their mark on something distinctive in its early stages.

You'll have real creative input, a direct line to the people steering the project, and your name in the credits of everything you work on. We're a tight, passionate team. Now we need the artists and musicians to make this world fully come alive.

Heads up: this is currently a volunteer effort while we get the teaser off the ground. But if we knock this out of the park and expand into a full season, you can absolutely be brought on as official, permanent crew!

Our Philosophy

We don't care how long your resume is or who you've worked with. We care about raw, undeniable craft. If you've got the eye (or the ear), we want you. Newcomers heavily encouraged to apply!

The Vibe

Grounded, highly emotional, and deeply human. We're diving into some slightly heavy themes, but we balance that weight with real intimacy, genuine laughs, and warmth.

The World

Los Angeles, 1985. A retrofuturist LA: a solarpunk utopia running on cassette-futurist technology, shaped from the ground up by the Office of Public Accountability. The city is very clean, orderly, optimistic on the surface. The question is: what holds it all together?

You'll define the look of our world: a retrofuturist Los Angeles, 1985. Cool, clean, optimistic streets with cassette-futurist technology humming quietly underneath. We want environments that feel genuinely lived-in but also just a little too perfect, the kind of place that's beautiful on the surface and makes you wonder what's holding it together.

A strong sense of atmosphere and color matters more to us than a specific software or style. If you love worldbuilding through environment, this is your role.

Hemlock's LA is a solarpunk utopia, and we want music that sounds like one: bright, catchy, feel-good, the kind of track that makes a sun-soaked city feel effortlessly cool. (Think Tame Impala, Will Smith's 90s hits, Calvin Harris, Japanese Citypop)

But this is a utopia with something underneath. So alongside the catchy, optimistic surface, we're also looking for that eerier, quietly unsettled feeling.

You'll help shape the sonic identity of Hemlock, scoring to picture and mood, sometimes selling the dream, sometimes complicating it. Synth-lovers and anyone who works with retro/analog textures are especially encouraged. Whether you're classically trained or fully self-taught, we care about the feeling you can create.

You'll set the emotional temperature of the show. Hemlock lives in a sunny, cool, hopeful palette on the surface, with room to shift into heavier, more intimate tones when the story calls for it.

You'll work with our background and character art to establish color scripts, palettes, and mood across scenes. A strong eye for how color carries emotion is exactly what we're looking for.
