Project Overview
Hi there! This is a casting call for the first season of our podcast He Who Forsakes the Crown. This is our first project so we're working with no budget, this is just for fun! We're planning on releasing HWFC on podcast players.
Your lines will be written in the novel form and color-coded for easier reading. Recording sessions will be hosted and attended by the directors on various scheduled nights. During these meetings, casted voice actors will have the opportunity to collaborate with one another on aligning tones, inflections, emotions, etc. in various scenes. The directors will be there to give feedback and just observe the overall process. You may use this meeting to record your final takes on certain lines or as a workshop and record on your own time. These meetings are not mandatory (though highly encouraged) to attend.
All roles are in the English language. We will showcase all voice actors on our website, major roles will be verbally credited at the end of each episode.
The deadline for auditioning is January 29th, 2021, after that, we'll be casting, hosting callbacks and planning the recording schedule for Season 1.
PODCAST OVERVIEW
He Who Forsakes the Crown is a fantasy drama with romance and action following the story of a possessed Prince and lost peasant woman as they navigate through trauma, politics, and love. If you're looking to get a vibe of what our story is like you can read the first few chapters on our linktree. The show will be produced like an audio drama with atmosphere, sound effects, internal narration, and composed music.
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU
- We like to have a lot of fun and we want you to enjoy working on this as much as we do! We want to get along with everyone.
- We have a lot of older teenagers working on this project so please do not audition if you are younger than fifteen years old.
- Please state your name, age, and discord handle in your audition or audition information.
- Please submit all final recordings as MP3 or M4A/MP4 files. There will be a designated chatroom in the Discord server where you can submit your recordings. You may also submit them via email if you so choose, though it is preferred that they are submitted through Discord for the sake of easy organization.
- On that note, when recording your lines, please record them one line at a time. For example, please do not cram an entire episode’s worth of lines into one recording. This will be easier for our sound editor to identify the lines she needs at certain moments, as well as accommodating for Discord’s outgoing file size limits. Please be sure to name each file according to the line recorded. For longer monologues that are not within the file size limits, you may email the recordings directly to the sound editor herself. That email address will be provided upon casting.
- For recording equipment, our requirements are simply that your voice is clear and crisp with little to no background noise. As long as your equipment allows for good quality recordings, you may use whatever you like.
- We have multiple seasons of He Who Forsakes the Crown planned out so we'd like your commitment to this project for a while. If you're unable to offer this please don't audition.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM US
You'll be greeted by Sao, Riley, and Gis, the founders of Chapter 15 Studios and creators of HWFC. We'll work primarily through Discord so please become acquainted with the application if you're planning on auditioning. We like to have fun with our work and we're excited to look over your audition!

As we begin casting- What to expect.
Hi all! Only another nine days before our deadline ends. Make sure to get all of your auditions in before then. I'm going to explain how we move on from the casting stage. IF YOU ARE CAST: -Expect to get a DM from us on Discord. We'll verify a couple of things with you (what you're comfortable voicing, if you're still available to join us, etc.) -If you're interested in a lead role we may ask you for some more lines. We want to make sure that our leads work and sound good together. -If you aren't cast for any of these roles you may still receive an offer to play a role that wasn't on this casting call. There are so many more characters we need voices for. -Once we've got everything set up, we'll invite you to our private production discord. We'll talk about everything else when you're there! I didn’t mean to do that, it just happened. Every day is the same, repeating over and over and over again.
(Regret starts to turn into sorrow.)The ache and pain of it all. You can never trust anyone you meet, so why be gentle? At any moment, someone could enter with the purest intentions. The next, their dagger can creep against my heart, piercing my soul.
Sometimes, I feel like a sparrow locked in its tiny cage, constantly fluttering to get out but never able to escape.
(Sorrow starts to form into anxiety.) There’s no point in that bird leaving for the cage is surrounded by hunters. Vicious, vicious, hunters. Inhumane, dirty, hunters. Hunters that don’t know any better. They’re just in it for the kill.
(Calm going into sadness.) I’ve seen it with my own two eyes.
It’s terrible, absolutely horrendous. I’ll never be treated like a genuine person and that scares me. I’m a piece of meat that the townsfolk can thrust their frustrations at.
It makes me wonder…

I tried to remember what happened that day, but I couldn’t go into specifics. My brain constantly replayed the image of my father bathed in red light telling me that he loves me. Did I even say it back? I couldn’t remember.
(Shock.) How could this be my fault? How could Justyn blame this on me?
I didn’t set the village on fire.
(Going into panic.) The village, on fire! Oh dear, how many people died in that fire? Why aren’t I dead? Mother and Father died.
(A realization.) Mother and Father are dead.
I’m not, I lived, I got out.
(Sadness, starting to cry.) How could I just leave them? It wasn’t fair. They were good people. They just wanted me to be happy.
Here I am, alive and crying alone in the forest. My entire life was dedicated to them, to the orchard. I have nobody, I’m alone. Well I have Elliot, I haven’t seen Elliot since I was a child. He could be dead for all I know. (In shock, laughing.) Goddess, wouldn’t that be funny? If Elliot had been dead years ago and we didn’t even know? Mother and Father didn’t get to say goodbye to him, perhaps he was dead and they knew? They just didn’t tell me.
No, that doesn’t make sense. I’m supposed to find him aren’t I? I can’t think clearly, I’m exhausted.

(Subtle panic.) No. No this mustn't be the case. The Kimura’s weren’t supposed to be invited to the ball. I haven’t seen a member of the Kimura Royal Family in six years. What were they doing here?
Iris Kimura looked much older than when I last saw her. From my calculations I knew she’d be sixteen by now. I never really dealt with her much. She was a quiet child who tended to stay out of the way. It was how she had to be, today she kept her posture firm and her head held high.
Her older brother Aspen stood by her side. He had always been protective of his sister. I shouldn’t hold a grudge against the two, they’ve done absolutely nothing to harm me. Yet seeing them invoked something instinctual in me. I wanted to run, I wanted to scream, I wanted to hide. So I took a broad stance, I turned my head away and I took a deep breath.
(Calming down.) They aren’t her. She isn’t here. I’m not the person I used to be; I’m stronger.

In this world wrought for destruction, mankind is truly disturbing. Thousands of years of death and bloodshed. They never learn, and they never will. Human existence feeds off of insecurity. They feel courage when they’re together, yet, doubt themselves when they’re all alone. To feed off of each simple emotion they release out of their body. It’s carnage within a feast of cannibals.

Although we interrogated every member, there were no arrests made. Everything seemed to check out until I saw this one maid’s background check. The village of Montausart used to be the heart of the rebellion. It was the rebels from there that murdered Princess Dahlia. Kimbra Tanaka lied about being from the dead rebel village.

Don’t you remember? We’re an elite guard. Powered by the remnants. You may not remember because you’ve grown used to it but hits don’t hurt as hard as they should. Kurou, you had a broken nose that healed perfectly in under a month, not even the best healing elixirs can do that.
